BBM For Desktop Demoed At BlackBerry Jam Asia 2013

BBM For Desktop Demoed At BlackBerry Jam Asia 2013Wouldn’t it be cool if you could chat on your desktop and have it sent to a messaging platform on a mobile device? As it stands there are a multitude of options, such as Google Hangouts, Facebook Messenger, Line, and etc., but if you’re a heavy BBM user, it seems that during the BlackBerry Jam Asia 2013, BlackBerry showed off BBM running on a Windows computer, essentially mirroring the app on a desktop platform, similar to how BBM would be mirrored on the Playbook tablet.

It was not mentioned as to when this feature would be released or what the feature could be known as (BBM for desktop, perhaps?), but it would certainly be a pretty cool feature and an additional reason for users to turn to the BBM platform. BlackBerry also mentioned that they would exploring taking the feature onto Mac computers as well. However like we said, there was no mention of a release date for this feature, but what do you guys think of it? Is this something you’d like to see happen in the near future? It’s starting to seem like BlackBerry is looking to recreate the BBM experience, not only taking it onto other smartphone platforms, but to computers as well.

BBM For iOS And Android Will Not Be Released This Week

BBM For iOS And Android Will Not Be Released This WeekJust the other day BlackBerry decided to halt the rollout of BBM for iOS and Android citing there were some technical issues thanks to the app being leaked on Android ahead of schedule. According to a post by Andrew Bocking, the head of BBM at BlackBerry, the reason for the halt was because of the leaked app which was an older version of the app and had some issues that came with it. The issues were reportedly cleared up with the official release, but due to many people downloading the leaked version, it affected their system and it is something they are attempting to fix.

According to Bocking, “The team is now focused on adjusting the system to completely block this unreleased version of the Android app when we go live with the official BBM for Android app. We are also making sure that the system is reinforced to handle this kind of scenario in the future. While this may sound like a simple task – it’s not. This will take some time and I do not anticipate launching this week.” So it looks like if you were hoping to get your hands on BBM this week, you’d be out of luck and while there was no mention of a possible release date, next week would probably be the earliest you’d see the app.

Blackberry C-series smartphone sighted in photo leak

Blackberry‘s on-going story is anything but boring and uneventful as the company is revealed to be developing a new line of smartphones currently being called the Blackberry 10 C-series. This supposed mix between the company’s Z and Q series could very well be added to the company’s growing list of could have been, should have […]

BlackBerry Temporarily Halts BBM Rollout For iOS And Android

BlackBerry Temporarily Halts BBM Rollout For iOS And AndroidThe other day we reported that BBM for iOS had finally begun to roll out, but unfortunately if you weren’t quick enough to get the download, you’d now be out of luck as BlackBerry has since halted the rollout of the app. According to BlackBerry, the reason why they have halted the rollout is because of a leaked version of the app which has since caused the folks at BlackBerry a bit of technical difficulties which the company is apparently trying to rectify as we speak.

For those who have already downloaded the app, this is a non-issue as the app can still be used without any problems, but for those looking to download it, you’ll have to wait. Unfortunately BlackBerry has not mentioned as to when we might be able to see the app go back up for download via the iTunes App Store or Google Play, so it looks like we’ll just have to play the waiting game in the meantime. BlackBerry has also stated that this issue has not impacted the BBM service in general, so BBM users will not have to fret. Anyone have any idea as to what the issue might have been?

BBM Is Being Delayed For Android and iOS

BBM Is Being Delayed For Android and iOS

Look, we all know that BlackBerry is in a tail spin and has been for awhile. And at this point the situation can only become an incredible underdog story or a put the dog out of his misery moment. There’s no status quo anymore. But somehow the hole keeps being dug deeper. BlackBerry announced an abysmal early earnings report and major layoffs on Friday, and now there’s something else. BlackBerry was forced to release a statement yesterday saying that the new BBM apps for iOS and Android, which were supposed to be released yesterday and today respectively, are being delayed. And that’s just suboptimal.

BlackBerry pauses BBM rollout for Android and iOS following leak

    BBM for Android and iOS

We hope you weren’t scheduling your weekend around the launch of BBM for Android and iOS, as BlackBerry has paused the rollout following a leak of the Android version. There were too many simultaneous users, the company says; with over 1.1 million active clients in the first eight hours, the messaging service just wasn’t ready to handle the load. There’s no mention of when the BBM deployment will continue, although BlackBerry is disabling the unofficial Android build to prevent future problems. Unless you grabbed BBM’s iOS version in the first several hours, you’ll just have to be patient.

BBM iOS and Android releases paused: staggering forward

Though the software teams at BlackBerry suggested they’d be beginning the roll-out of BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) as an app for Android and iOS starting this week, it would now appear that they’ve hit the proverbial pause button for both platforms. While it’s unclear at the moment if this cut in downloads and service to the […]

BBM For iOS Rolling Out Now

BBM For iOS Rolling Out Now

The wait is finally over, BBM for iOS has already begun rolling out in certain regions. BlackBerry announced back in May this year that they were finally opening up the once exclusive instant messaging service for the two most widely used platforms in the world. A few days back it said that the apps will be released over this weekend. BBM for iOS is now available in the iTunes App Store. iPad compatibility is not present at launch.

BBM for Android is going to be released this weekend as well, it should start rolling out later today as well. Though only yesterday a working apk file was leaked on the internet. At this point in time the Google Play Store is riddled with as many as eight fake BBM for Android apps, so exercise caution when downloading. It will be better to check online if the official version is available and then use the legitimate Play Store link to download, we’ll have it up for you once the app is released. BBM for iOS is available as a free download from the App Store. It requires iOS 6.0 or later and has been optimized for the iPhone 5. The app weighs in around 30MB.

PSA: BBM for iOS rollout underway, Android version acting a little shy

PSA: BBM for iOS rollout underway, Android version acting a little shy

It’s been something of a mixed week for BlackBerry, but it’s good news for those with an affinity for its BBM service (but an allegiance to other phones.) If you’re over on the Apple side of the fence, it looks like rollout has begun, with BBM showing up on iTunes in New Zealand, with more territories sure to follow. Meanwhile, Android was set to land on the Play store at around 7am ET, but has yet to break cover. We’ll keep an eye out, and update this post once it’s live. Or, like many others, keep refreshing the source link until it shows up!

BBM for iOS and Android Hands-On: The Best Blackberry Thing In Years?

Even as Blackberry has fallen from grace over the last few years, its proprietary messaging service BBM has remained a solid, well-designed product. A few months back, the company announced plans to bring the product to iOS and Android. We were excited then, and after spending a few minutes with the final build of both apps, we’re thinking this could be Blackberry’s foothold into a new future.
