BenQ unveils two 1080p 3D projectors at CES

BenQ isn’t holding any keynotes, but the company does have a presence here at CES. In fact it rolled out a pair of 1080p 3D projectors today for the home theater enthusiast. The W1070 and W1080ST are the latest in the company’s consumer line, and they’re powered by DLP’s Dark Chip 3 which is usually found in high-end models. But at $1,099 and $1,299, respectively, the W1070 and W1080ST certainly aren’t priced for the high end. The 1080 can project images up to 100 inches wide from as little as six feet away. It’s even ready for proper color calibration right out of the box. Both machines are also compatible with NVIDIA’s 3D Play and DLP Link, plus they’re sporting dual HDMI ports. Both are available now. BenQ unveils VW30 series of monitors that have been optimized for MacBooks

Hook an external monitor up to a MacBook isn’t new – in fact there are many out there who probably already do that. However if you felt that your current external monitor did not replicate the colors on your MacBook’s screen accurately, it seems that BenQ has recently introduced a new monitor series, the VW30 series of vertical alignment LED monitors. Supposedly when connected to your MacBook via an M-book mode, the monitor will be able to recreate the “authentic” image quality of your MacBook in terms of picture quality, gamma and whitepoint. There’s even a Reading Mode which will supposedly adjust the monitor’s settings in a way that simulates the warmth of reading paper.

Available in 21.5” or 24” sizes, these monitors offer 1080p Full HD, a contrast ratio of 5000:1, a 178-degree viewing angle, an Eco mode, HDMI 1.4, DVI-D and VGA connectivity and are priced at $179 and $249 respectively. More information on the monitors can be found at BenQ’s website.

BenQ we're not going back to cellphones and laptops, but check out our luxury lamps!

There was a time when the BenQ brand could be seen on laptops and mobile phones, but nowadays you’d have to turn your eyes to projectors, LCD monitors and cameras (in select markets) in order to spot it. If you’re in China, you might have even come across the gigantic BenQ Medical Center in Nanjing. That’s right, a hospital; and later this year BenQ will be opening another one in Suzhou, which is where the company’s Chinese operation is based. Interesting times, right? But as to whether BenQ has any intention to re-enter the two mobile markets in the near future, the answer is a firm “no.”
