BitTorrent Sync coming to iOS this week

BitTorrent Sync now available for iOS

BitTorrent promised that its Sync Beta service would get an iOS client, and the company is making good on its word with plans to launch the app this week. As with the Android release, iOS users will get to sync files of any size, send content to other mobile devices and back up photos. And if you’re not carrying an Apple device, BitTorrent still has a small treat in store: it’s rolling out a localization update that supports 10 major Asian and European languages. Whatever your platform of choice, you’ll find more details at the source link.

iWork for iCloud beta testing now open for public

Though initially only available to developers, the iWork for iCloud beta is now open to the public. Following the first developer beta, several other non-developers were invited to test out the service in July. Now, anybody who currently has an Apple ID can login at iCloud.com to test out iWork’s functionality on the cloud before […]

Apple’s iWork For iCloud Beta Now Available To All

Apples iWork For iCloud Beta Now Available To All

Just last week, Apple quietly updated iCloud.com to reflect the changes they’ll soon be making in iOS 7. The updated look within iCloud.com was only available to registered beta testers, but today, Apple has removed the velvet rope to allow anyone with an Apple ID to check out the new and improved iCloud.com. (more…)

iWork for iCloud beta now open to anyone with an Apple ID

First it was available to developers, then a select few who received invitations, and now the beta of iWork for iCloud is available for all. Apple’s made no official announcement, but point your browser to icloud.com, punch in your Apple ID details, and there you have it: Pages, Numbers and Keynote. Seeming as you normally have to pay for the iWork software suite, this could be a time-sensitive public beta that’ll be pulled once you’ve found all the bugs (this editor has full access without owning any of the iWork programs). So, you might as well have a go at being productive in the cloud before it’s too late.

Chrome 30 Beta For Android Brings WebGL And New Swipe Gestures To Mobile, Easier Search By Image To Desktop

    chrome_beta_logo

Google today launched the latest beta of Chrome for desktop and Android. This release marks the first time Chrome for Android supports WebGL by default. Previous versions of the beta for Android already made WebGL the standard for rendering interactive 3D and 2D graphics in the browser, available behind a flag. It’s now enabled by default on all mobile devices that feature a relatively high-end GPU, including those found in the Nexus 4 phone and Nexus 7 tablet.

While virtually every modern desktop browser already supports most aspects of the WebGL API (with the exception of Internet Explorer, which will support it in the next version), mobile browsers have mostly lagged behind. While the BlackBerry 10 browser, Opera Mobile and Firefox for Android now support it, the mobile web is only now starting to catch up with WebGL. iOS for Safari still doesn’t support it, but the popularity of Chrome on Android will likely give more mobile developers the confidence to start experimenting with it.

If you have a compatible phone, give WebGL a try with this demo.

    New Swipe Gestures

Google is also bringing a number of new swipe gestures to Chrome. You can now, for example, swipe horizontally across the top toolbar to switch between tabs and drag vertically down from the toolbar to enter the tab switcher view.

With today’s update, Google is also introducing the device motion part of the Device Orientation API in the Chrome for Android beta channel. That sounds pretty dry, but it allows developers to get information about the device’s acceleration and rotation rates. This feature has long been part of the API, but it looks like Google only got around to implementing it now. You can give it a try here.

The only other major new feature for developers is support for the MediaSource API in the beta channel for devices running Jelly Bean or higher. This, Google says, makes it easier to enable adaptive streaming and time-shifting live streams in the mobile browser.

Chrome Apps are also getting some goodies in today’s update, including APIs for webview.request and media gallery write and download support. Chrome Apps, Google says, will now also be able to use Chrome Web Store managed in-app payments.

    Chrome 30 Beta For Desktop

The desktop version isn’t getting too many new features, but Google is now making it easier to search for a given image right from Chrome. Just right-click on any image on the web, select “Search google for this image” and see Google’s search results within a second.

The other interesting new features on the desktop is support for the WebRTC Device Enumeration API, which allows users to switch between microphones and cameras (just like in Skype) without having to restart the WebRTC call.

Left 4 Dead 2 Beta Francis Is Now Available

Left 4 Dead 2 Beta Francis Is Now AvailableFirst of all, let us go through a little bit of history lesson. Valve picked up Turtle Rock Studios when it was still working on Left 4 Dead, and the team has gone indie since again, with this particular version of Francis being dated back to pre-acquisition days. Well, you can now pick him up from Steam Workshop to see action in Left 4 Dead 2. Valve did mention that they are unable to promise for other characters to be introduced, but will still try their darndest best (or words according to that effect).

Francis can be enabled by an update to Left 4 Dead 2, which happens to be primarily in support of modders. To underline that point, Valve did invite one prominent modder (his nickname happens to be Splinks, otherwise known as Zander to the family at Valve) to work in its offices for a few months just to help them develop better tools. Obviously, this particular move has its rewards, where some of the more useful updates include Starter Kits, Maya Files, and Tutorials. Those who are curious can always check out the Tutorial which should also provide enough information to address any particular issues that might just arise eventually, and get them fixed.

iOS 7 Beta 7 Reportedly Launched Already To Developers

iOS 7 Beta 7 Reportedly Launched Already To DevelopersBoy, is Apple moving fast with iOS 7 – it is less than a week since we reported that Apple has just rolled out iOS 7 Beta 6 to developers, and fast forward to today, here we are with word from developers that Apple has plans to introduce the seventh beta version of iOS 7 today – in short, iOS 7 Beta 7. Apparently, Apple has reportedly seeded a new build of iOS 7 to its developers, and it should be released sometime later today. Not only that, it has been allegedly confirmed that the build number will be a whole lot higher compared to the previous beta, so one can only make the assumption that iOS 7 Beta 7 ought to be distributed and made available for developers at approximately 1pm EDT – that is roughly an hour from now.

One ought to take note in reference to the iOS 7 Beta 6 announcement last week which took just a few hours to be seeded right after it was announced – talk about efficiency! Of course, one of the possible reasons that iOS 7 Beta 6 rolled out so soon was because it carried an emergency bug fix for iTunes in the Cloud issues. Are you, as a developer, looking forward to the impending release of iOS 7 Beta 7?
