BBM For BlackBerry 10 Beta Features Real Time Location Sharing And Voice Notes

BBM For BlackBerry 10 Beta Features Real Time Location Sharing And Voice Notes

If BlackBerry has anything going for it right now, its certainly BBM. The once iconic BlackBerry exclusive messaging service was opened up to iOS and Android earlier this year and it gained a lot of popularity. 20 million people signed up in the first week alone, whereas BlackBerry Messenger was able to pull in 40 million new users overall across both platforms. The company is committed to BBM and continues to improve it, the latest BBM for BlackBerry 10 has been rolled out in a limited public beta and it comes with two major new features.

The first major feature that BBM for BlackBerry 10 brings is real time voice notes. Sending voices notes is now extremely easy through BBM beta on BB10, users simply need to press a button, speak up and release the button to send. The voice notes move fast, its almost akin to having push-to-talk enabled on the smartphone. Glympse is the second major feature included in this beta BBM build. It lets a BBM contact access your location in real time for a specified duration after which the location becomes private again. It is not known when this BBM build will be out of beta and will be released publicly for all BlackBerry 10 users. It is certainly going to take a lot of time before this feature is brought over to iOS and Android. [Image via Berryreview]

Recent Sensor Issues On BlackBerry 10 Devices Were Due To Corrupt Server Data

Recent Sensor Issues On BlackBerry 10 Devices Were Due To Corrupt Server Data

We reported yesterday that a lot of BlackBerry 10 owners were complaining about the sensors on their devices going haywire. The issues were being noticed after users updated to BB10.2 OS. Sensors which were affected included the proximity and light sensors, some users even complained that screen rotation was being affected. BlackBerry today clarified that there’s nothing wrong with the BB10.2 update, and there’s certainly nothing wrong with the hardware on its devices. The issue was due to corrupt server data, which the company has fixed server-side.

BlackBerry product manager Michael Clewley revealed through his BBM channel that a server which sends sensor calibration information to BlackBerry 10 devices was sending corrupt data, which resulted in sensors on devices acting up. Those who were affected by the issue simply need to restart their phone, no updates have been rolled out, everything was fixed at server. BlackBerry, which has often been criticized for taking its time when it comes to fixing software related problems, was very quick in ironing out these issues. So all BlackBerry 10 owners out there, who own either the Z10, Q10, Q5 or the Z30, need not worry anymore about haywire sensors. Just restart your device and everything will work out just fine.

BlackBerry 10 Devices Reportedly Suffering From Sensor Issues Post 10.2 Update

BlackBerry 10 Devices Reportedly Suffering From Sensor Issues Post 10.2 UpdateIf you own any of the BlackBerry 10 devices, like the BlackBerry Z10, Q10, Z30, you might want to hold off on updating to BlackBerry OS 10.2. According to a smattering of reports, it seems that BlackBerry 10 devices that have updated to 10.2 are experiencing some bugs which appears to be affecting the sensors on their phones. These sensors include the light sensor, proximity sensor, and has even affected the screen rotation. Some users have tried the BlackBerry Virtual Expert and have been notified that their sensors are not even supported on their device which is extremely perplexing.

Admittedly it does seem odd that so many bugs would pop up around the same time, so perhaps there’s something that might have triggered it on a wide scale. BlackBerry has not yet responded to the issue, so for now if you are one of those who have been affected by this bug, you can hit up the CrackBerry forums where there are many users who are reporting similar bugs as well. BlackBerry OS 10.2 was expected to introduce a host of new features to the operating system, such as Priority Hub, Natural Sound (originally a Z30 feature), an improved keyboard, lockscreen notifications, and more.

Google Play Store to debut on BlackBerry 10.2.1, images suggest

The newest BlackBerry OS build, 10.2.1, could allow the Google Play Store to be installed, letting users download and install Android apps to run on BlackBerry devices–if the four leaked photos shown below are to be believed. PhotoShop is always a suspect, but the images are plausible. As long as they represent a genuine near-future […]

BlackGram Is BlackBerry 10′s Native Instagram App

BlackGram Is BlackBerry 10s Native Instagram AppWhile Instagram might finally be making its way onto Windows Phone, the same unfortunately cannot be said for BlackBerry users, at least until now. BlackGram for BlackBerry has been launched and it is the first native Instagram app for the BlackBerry 10 platform. Granted this is hardly the official app compared to what iOS, Android, a recently Windows Phone users will be enjoying, but we guess it’s a start and according to those who have managed to get their hands on the app, well apparently it works really well.

The features include your standard account creation, the ability to browse, search for users and hash tags, like/comment/unlike photos, follow users, edit images with the original Instagram filters, and more. Unfortunately the app is not free, unlike Instagram, so interested users will have to fork out $2.99 if they wish to get their hands on the app. As it stands the app has been hidden in BlackBerry World because according to the developer, they are scaling up their servers to match the influx of users, so don’t worry if you can’t find it yet, we’re sure it will be coming back soon. So, any BlackBerry 10 users excited at the app finally arriving for their platform?

Native Skype App For BlackBerry 10 Could Be On Its Way

Native Skype App For BlackBerry 10 Could Be On Its WayEarlier this year it was revealed that Skype would be making its way onto BlackBerry 10 devices, which is good news especially since the BlackBerry 10 platform could use more big name apps. However the downside is that the app, at that time, turned out to be a port of the Android version of Skype. While there is nothing wrong with ports, the fact of the matter is that they are not optimized for the BlackBerry 10 platform, meaning that it is not as integrated and smooth as it could be compared to a native app, but we guess given that BlackBerry 10 users have no other choice, it will have to do.

The good news is that if you’re a heavy Skype user on the BlackBerry 10, you might be pleased to learn that a native BlackBerry 10 Skype app could be on its way. This is according to a tweet by Brian Zubert, the Manager of Developer Relations at BlackBerry, who in his tweet wrote, “Nice update today to the @Skype #BlackBerry app. Huge improvement, but still looking forward to the full on native app! Might be 10.2 only!” Given his status and role at BlackBerry, presumably what he said was not made in mistake, although the downside is the the app might only be for OS 10.2, so if your carrier has yet to roll out the 10.2 update for your BlackBerry 10 device, you could be out of luck.
