Morgan Stanley Holds Off On Upgrading To BlackBerry 10

Morgan Stanley Holds Off On Upgrading To BlackBerry 10

BlackBerry 10 was launched earlier this year with devices like the BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10 hitting the market, so we guess for some companies that are still on the BlackBerry platform, it should be time to upgrade, right? Morgan Stanley is one of those companies that still uses the BlackBerry platform, although at the moment they have distributed BlackBerry 7 devices to their employees around the world, and for now it looks like there are no plans for the company to upgrade to BlackBerry 10. Instagram Spotted On BlackBerry 10 Hub [Rumor]

Instagram Spotted On BlackBerry 10 Hub [Rumor]

While Instagram might be enjoying a large user base on iOS and Android, at least as far as official apps are concerned, those on Windows Phone and BlackBerry 10 have to resort to third-party apps instead. In fact last we heard, Instagram for BlackBerry 10 might not be coming soon as the company’s CEO stated that they had no plans to develop for BlackBerry 10 at the moment, but thanks to a leaked screenshot, perhaps Instagram might have had a change of heart.

According to the leaked screenshot spotted in the CrackBerry forums, it shows off the BlackBerry Hub on the BlackBerry Q10 with the Instagram tab on it. The person who posted the photo claims that Instagram for BlackBerry will be announced within the next few weeks and is actually meant to coincide with the release of the BlackBerry 10.2 update. While this definitely sounds like good news, it should be noted that Instagram has been pretty quiet on the matter, not to mention its CEO actually confirmed that they weren’t developing for BlackBerry 10 at the moment.

Of course it is entirely possible that they had a change of heart, or perhaps wanted to keep things a secret, but in any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we will be able to get more official information at a later date.

BBM Android and iOS user guides suggest launch imminent

While the BlackBerry brand may not be doing as well as they’d hoped with the launch of BlackBerry 10 and the devices it runs on, an impending BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) app for iOS and Android still appears all the rage. This app has been announced for both Apple mobile products and Google’s Android, but no […]

BlackBerry’s “Strategic Alternatives” May Drive Away Developers

BlackBerrys Strategic Alternatives May Drive Away Developers

Prior to unveiling the BlackBerry 10 platform in January, the Canadian manufacturer organized a few developer-focused events in order to get as many apps as it could for its nascent platform. Still most top apps that can easily be found on both iOS and Android are missing on BlackBerry, and there’s no doubt about the fact that one of the reasons BB10 has failed to take off is that most users are put off by the lack of decent applications. The company recently announced the formation of a special committee that is going to look into “strategic alternatives” for its survival, which might include partnerships, alliances or a sale of the company. As per a new report by Forbes, developers are likely to stay away from BlackBerry seeing as how it is now up for sale.

Citing iOS and Android as the top two platforms, by no means an overstatement, developers are now more likely to consider Windows Phone as the third go-to platform instead of BlackBerry. It was reported recently that WP has indeed passed BB to clinch the coveted third position in the global smartphone market. The report does seem to make sense, BlackBerry is now the lowest step on the ladder and might not serve enough value for developers to put their time and resources into developing apps for it. Ultimately its the company and the users that will suffer. From any aspect, things are certainly not looking up for the ailing Canadian manufacturer and the situation isn’t expected to improve anytime soon.

BlackBerry Expected To Be Sold In Parts

BlackBerry Expected To Be Sold In Parts

What was once a behemoth has now been reduced to finding “strategic alternatives” for its survival. The years have taken their toll on BlackBerry, which once had a mammoth share of the global cellphone market. Now it has been beaten by Windows Phone, which has become the third biggest platform in the world. BlackBerry was unable to stage a comeback with its new BlackBerry 10 devices. So the company recently announced that it is looking for alternatives, which includes partnerships and alliances and even an outright sale of the company.

A new Digitimes report cites sources who believe that it is likely that BlackBerry might be sold off in parts, not lump sum. These sources believe that BlackBerry’s rival aren’t going to be interested in the entire company, given its declining market share coupled with the cost of maintaining an entire software platform. One possible scenario is that companies like Cisco and IBM, which are largely focused towards the business segment, might be interested in buying BlackBerry’s wireless service platform. Whereas companies such as Amazon and Samsung might consider buying BlackBerry 10 platform to acquire related patents that would help them push further ahead in the market. No one seems to know right now what would become of the company’s hardware division. There have been no reports of an acquisition offer for BlackBerry and its not known right now if they’ll be entering in to a partnership or alliance with some other company.

After its previous look at strategic alternatives yielded little fruit, BlackBerry is once again goi

After its previous look at strategic alternatives yielded little fruit, BlackBerry is once again going back to the blackboard. Its board is currently considering "possible joint ventures, strategic partnerships or alliances, a sale of the Company or other possible transactions" to help boost the performance of BlackBerry 10. So… any takers?

BlackBerry entertaining idea of going private says sources

It is no secret that Blackberry has fallen from its once high-and-mighty position, suffering financially in the midst of that and making a rather gallant effort to turn itself around. Although the company poured a lot of effort into BlackBerry 10 and the related handsets, it is still faltering, and as a result is open […]
