BlackBerry Q10 On T-Mobile Available For Business Registration Starting April 29

BlackBerry Q10 On T Mobile Available For Business Registration Starting April 29

We heard earlier this morning BlackBerry announced its BlackBerry Q10 will cost $249 with a two-year agreement in the U.S., which we’re sure many of you were probably not expecting considering the BlackBerry Z10 was made available for just $199. One of the first U.S. carriers to finally speak out about the BlackBerry Q10′s availability is T-Mobile, although the information they’re sharing is extremely limited.

T-Mobile didn’t announce how much the BlackBerry Q10 will cost on its network, nor did it announce a release date for the device. Instead, the company sent out a message saying it would start allowing its business customers to “register” for the BlackBerry Q10 on April 29. We’re not sure if that means that is when pre-orders will become available or if T-Mobile business customers could simply sign up to learn more about the BlackBerry Q10′s availability, but we guess it’s a start. BlackBerry Q10 Confirmed To Cost $249 On Contract

BlackBerry Q10 Confirmed To Cost $249 On ContractIt was just last week when we brought you word that the BlackBerry Q10 has received the nod of approval from the folks over at the FCC, and earlier this morning, there were whispers of the BlackBerry Q10 hitting Canada on the first day of May for $199 a pop – on contract, of course. Well, here we are with word that BlackBerry will be rolling out the BlackBerry Q10 in the US and the end of next month, and it will not be that pocket friendly price-wise compared to our friends living in the Great White North, as it seems that the BlackBerry Q10 has been confirmed to carry a price tag of $249 alongside a two-year contract.

Of course, this would clearly price it out of range of the majority of other high end smartphones, but chances are BlackBerry is already well aware of that, and intend to price the device for those who really, really want it. I don’t know about that, do you want it that bad to fork out $249 when you can get something that you deem is better and for less elsewhere? Only time will tell, and we await with bated breath to see how this gambit of BlackBerry’s pan out.

BlackBerry Q10 Releasing In Canada On May 1 For $199

BlackBerry Q10 Releasing In Canada On May 1 For $199

The road to release for the BlackBerry Q10 has certainly been a long one as it was introduced alongside the Z10 back in January, but BlackBerry has since stayed pretty tight-lipped in regards to the device. A release in Canada was first said to be expected in the “coming weeks“ earlier this month with a rumor circulating possibly having the Q10 release on April 30. It looks like that rumored release date was pretty close as BlackBerry has announced they’ll be releasing the BlackBerry Q10 starting a day later, on May 1.

Bell, Rogers and Telus will have the BlackBerry Q10 available for C$199 with a three-year contract and are currently accepting pre-orders, while smaller wireless networks like Fido, Koodo, Sasktel and Virgin Mobile will also have the device. As of now, there’s no word as to when the U.S. market will be getting their dose of BlackBerry Q10 goodness, but hopefully its release in Canada means we’re closer to its actual release.

BlackBerry 10 readied for cross-platform game development bid

This week the group known as Unity Technologies will be giving what could be seen as a much-needed push to the BlackBerry 10 app world with an open door to developers. This open door comes in the form of an open beta trial to Unity’s cross-platform game development tool set, and developers have been invited to join in this week as the BlackBerry 10 smartphones Z10 and Q10 are released across the USA and internationally. If successful, this program will bring many iOS and Android apps into the BlackBerry 10 fold.

camera

This program is entirely separate from BlackBerry’s own Android initiative – you’ll find that previous reports have put the number of “repackaged Android apps” in the BlackBerry 10 library at 40 percent. That’s no small number for a platform that’s competing with both Android and the iPhone for market share in the mobile industry. Be it BlackBerry’s own Android toolset or Unity’s new offering, it would appear that BlackBerry 10 is seeking developers from widely successful environments left and right.

apps-580x319

The offering Unity has here is a toolset which allows an app developer to create apps for multiple platforms at once. Developers will be able to create with what would at first appear to be the same tools and workflow they normally employ for iOS or Android, but here the end result will be a BlackBerry 10 app. These apps will work on the BlackBerry Z10, the BlackBerry Q10, and eventually whatever other BlackBerry 10 devices arrive on the market.

At the moment this setup is being pushed to only the most advanced developers, while the final workflow will be released in a form that Unity Technologies will aim at a more broad developer user base. This release will be followed soon after by a set of tools for those developers hoping to create apps for Windows Phone 8, as well.

Blackberry Q10 Passes Through The FCC, Seems On Track For Spring Launch

Blackberry Q10 Passes Through The FCC, Seems On Track For Spring LaunchBlackberry announced that the Q10 is expected to be available in April, and it looks like the Canadian company might be able to make that date after all. The Blackberry Q10 has recently passed through the FCC, meaning that a launch on US carriers is only a matter of time. So far there has not been any announcement by any of the major four US carriers about the availability of the phone, but over in Canada it has been rumored that the Q10 will launch on the 30th of April, which hopefully means that s US launch will not be too far behind.

The Blackberry Q10 is the company’s second Blackberry 10 handset and unlike the flagship Z10, the Q10 will be taking after its Blackberry 7 predecessors in the sense that it will feature a QWERTY keyboard layout which is reminiscent of the Blackberry Bold 9900, albeit with a new operating system running things alongside new hardware.

BlackBerry Rubbishes High Z10 Return Rates News

BlackBerry Rubbishes High Z10 Return Rates News

BlackBerry has officially responded to certain stories that started circulating today regarding the Z10. As per these stories, the Z10 launch in U.S. wasn’t off to a very good start, rather it was so bad that Z10 return rates were very high. One analyst was quoted as saying that “returns were exceeding sales,” while Z10 sales at carrier stores were said to have significantly dropped by another analyst. In its statement BlackBerry says that these reports are “absolutely false” and that there aren’t “abnormally high” return rates of the Z10.

The company says that its data shows that return rates for its latest flagship device, in the U.S. and other markets, are better than what they had expected. They also say that the rates are consistent with those for other premium smartphones in the market. Stories such as these have always caused BBRY shares to dip, besides that it isn’t exactly good publicity. BlackBerry needs these devices to succeed, with the Q10 scheduled to come out later this month, they’ll have another offering for prospective customers. Perhaps the company does have an image problem in the U.S.,  considering that according to a survey almost 83% of the people did not know BlackBerry 10 had launched.

BlackBerry 10.1 Update Will Bring A Couple Of New Features

BlackBerry 10.1 Update Will Bring A Couple Of New Features

Earlier this week we reported that BlackBerry 10.1 OS update had been leaked. The features that this update will be bringing have been detailed today by an official source, and hopefully they’ll be present in the public release. As of now it is expected that BlackBerry will roll out OS 10.1 update by the end of this month or in the first week of May. It is also expected that the Q10 will ship with version 10.1 installed, whereas the Z10 will receive it over-the-air.

Major changes will be made to the camera functionality, which will be sped up considerably. Support for HDR photos will also be added. It is also rumored that the update will allow the latest BlackBerry smartphones to open an active connection between a PC and the device, this would make it easier to access files on the computer. Other expected features include BlackBerry Mobile Voice System Support, BlackBerry Balance, Type N Go, Cross Domain Email Warnings, Dark Theme Support, Out-of-Box-Experience, Smartcard Support, Mnemonic Phone Dialing, Word Prediction and Keyboard Shortcuts. The update will also bring the ability to send PIN messages directly from BlackBerry Hub.

71 Percent Of Consumers Say They Would Not Buy A BlackBerry [Poll]The results of a recent poll commissioned by research firm MKM Partners found 83 percent of people weren’t aware BlackBerry launched its BlackBerry 10 platform in the U.S. The results of the same poll found 6 percent of those questions said they would make their next phone a BlackBerry device. Seeing how all bad things come in threes, we’re not completely surprised to hearth results of another poll shedding some negative light on BlackBerry.

According to research firm Raymond James, who conducted a survey based on the intent of suture smartphone shoppers, those questions revealed which kind of smartphone devices they absolutely wouldn’t buy in the near future. 19.7 percent of poll takers said they wouldn’t buy an iPhone, while 31.3 percent said Android wasn’t the choice for them. The last smartphone brand, BlackBerry, received the worst results as 71.4 percent said they wouldn’t be buying a BlackBerry device. (more…)

83 Percent Of People Don’t Know BlackBerry 10 Launched [Poll]

83 Percent Of People Dont Know BlackBerry 10 Launched [Poll]

BlackBerry’s Z10 has made itself available in the U.S., but it looks like according to a recently published poll, there might be more people who are oblivious to the device being available than there are that know they can pick one up right now.

The poll was commissioned by research firm MKM Partners which found 83 percent of 1,500 Americans questioned weren’t aware BlackBerry 10 had officially launched. If that number doesn’t spell trouble for BlackBerry, then how about 6 percent of those questioned said they would make their next phone a BlackBerry device. Yea – that number is just as bad as the 83 percent. (more…)
