Porsche Design Re-Imagines The BlackBerry Z10 Costing $2,400

If there’s one thing the BlackBerry Z10 doesn’t need, it’s an extremely expensive version of their popular BlackBerry 10 smartphone, but that’s exactly what BlackBerry is announcing today as they have teamed up with Porsche Design to come up with the P’9982.

The P’9982 is Porsche Design’s take on the BlackBerry Z10 as it is crafted from stainless steel and Italian leather as well as a unique BBM PIN that helps “instantly recognize” its users. The Porsche Design-inspired BlackBerry Z10 also features more internal storage as owners of the smartphone can expect a whopping 64GB of internal storage, although its other specs remain the same: 1280 x 768 display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 2GB of RAM all running on BlackBerry 10.

The P’9982 also allows its users to customize the Italian leach backs of the device in a number of colors, although at the time of this writing, BlackBerry didn’t disclose what these would look like nor their pricing and availability.

Now for the part we’re sure you’ve been wondering. How much is it? Well – expect to cough up “around £1,500” for the P’9982, which converts to $2,400. We enjoyed our time with the BlackBerry Z10, but considering how BlackBerry has been doing these days since its launch and the Q10, we have a feeling buying a $2,400 Z10 might be out of the question for most of our readers.

This November those wishing to roll forward with the BlackBerry 10 universe will be able to see it happen on the biggest and most powerful handset ever to run the operating system. Google Play Store to debut on BlackBerry 10.2.1, images suggest

The newest BlackBerry OS build, 10.2.1, could allow the Google Play Store to be installed, letting users download and install Android apps to run on BlackBerry devices–if the four leaked photos shown below are to be believed. PhotoShop is always a suspect, but the images are plausible. As long as they represent a genuine near-future […]

BlackBerry Z10 Limited Edition Now Available For First 250 Developers Who Successfully Submitted An App

BlackBerry Z10 Limited Edition Now Available For First 250 Developers Who Successfully Submitted An AppEarlier this year, BlackBerry was pretty busy and aggressive when it came to approaching developers to create and submit apps for their BlackBerry platform. The company held several events for developers, encouraging them to create and submit as many apps as they can, presumably to meet their goal of 100,000 apps before the release of the BlackBerry Z10, the Canadian company’s first BlackBerry 10 device. We reckon BlackBerry managed to hit their goal because in May 2013, they announced that there were over 120,000 apps in BlackBerry World.

Now the good news for some developers is that if you were one of the first 250 developers who successfully submitted an app to BlackBerry World (successful as in the app has been approved for sale and distribution), BlackBerry has started sending out emails to these developers informing them that they are eligible to receive a brand new limited edition BlackBerry Z10 that comes in a rather striking red finish. Apart from the new coat of paint, the phone will remain the same as its predecessor. Unfortunately the phone is not available for all developers due to shipping regulations, and those living in Belarus, China, Cuba, Indonesia, Iran, North Korea, Malaysia, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, Thailand, and Vietnam will not be able to claim it.

BlackBerry 10.2 OS update beginning this week

BlackBerry has detailed the rollout for the 10.2 OS update. This one will be heading to those with a BlackBerry Z10 or Q10, and coincidentally, will have these handsets going to the same version that we saw the BlackBerry Z30 announced with back in mid-September. The good news here, the BlackBerry 10.2 OS update is […]

BlackBerry near-billion dollar loss has future looking grim

Though the folks at BlackBerry decided to hold off on their regularly scheduled earnings report, the report has indeed come out – and it’s not looking good. This second fiscal quarter for the company here in 2013 showed sales of $1.6 billion, but a loss on those sales of $965 million. This loss came in […]

T-Mobile BlackBerry 10 handsets may soon be ‘direct ship’ only

Another day and another bit about how BlackBerry is suffering. This latest deals with BlackBerry 10 and T-Mobile and assuming this all plays out as the rumors are suggesting — it looks like the carrier may soon begin pushing the Z10 and Q10 smartphones to the side. Coming by way of the CrackBerry user forums, […]

Alleged Porsche Design BlackBerry Z10 Components Leaked

Alleged Porsche Design BlackBerry Z10 Components LeakedWe have been hearing rumors that BlackBerry was set to announce a Porsche Design BlackBerry Z10 handset, which could also be known as the P’9982 if the rumors are to be believed. We’ve seen the leaked photos and now thanks to newly leaked photos from eTradeSupply who have managed to obtain some components of the alleged device, the photo above is apparently that of the innards of the upcoming phone. Based on what we can see, it appears that the phone will look somewhat similar internally to the BlackBerry Z10, but then again it supposedly will be based on the Z10 with some external design changes.

Of course it’s hard to tell if these are actually that of the Porsche Design, but its curved bottom certainly seems to hint at it. There’s no word on when BlackBerry will announce the Porsche Design BlackBerry Z10 but we’re guessing that the success of the P’9981 must have been compelling enough for BlackBerry to launch something similar for their BlackBerry 10 lineup. In any case with the original Porsche Design coming with a price tag of $2,000, we don’t expect the BlackBerry 10 version to come cheap either.

BlackBerry Porsche crossover continues with Z10-inspired reboot

There’s nothing like a good Porsche BlackBerry phone to make you realize that there’s a niche for essentially any sort of smartphone you can think of, just so long as it’s got a brand attached to it. Here we’re seeing the continuation of the Porsche BlackBerry team-up, coming up from the last edition which rolled […]

BlackBerry A10 vs Z10 leaks show sizeable case change

The BlackBerry A10 is a rumored device that is said to be working with the BlackBerry 10 mobile operating system and being prepared by the company to do battle with the larger display-toting market that’s swallowed much of the smartphone world. What we’ve seen thus far indicates the A10 to be working with a 5-inch display with 1280 x 720 pixel display resolution, a rather large bump over BlackBerry’s current touchscreen hero device in the Z10 with its 4.2-inch panel.

What you’re seeing in the leaked images above and below are not just the back casing for the A10 suggesting it has a removable battery, but the BlackBerry Z10 as well, so small it fits inside the back case in kind. This casing for the A10 also shows the machine to appear to bring on a bit more bulk that the Z10, but will be a bit more stylish in doing so with rounded edges.

You’ll also find this back casing to indicate the USA-based mobile device carrier AT&T in its logo implementation. This simple addition of the AT&T globe has been appearing as such on devices of all kinds for some time, the most recent example being Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8.0 4G LTE which SlashGear had a bit of hands-on time with earlier this week.

The BlackBerry A10 is said to be part of a multi-tiered second-wave attack with BlackBerry 10 by the company with the same name, this joined by another QWERTY device or two by the time 2014 is over. Expect the BlackBerry A10 to be released by the end of 2013 while more physical keyboard-bound devices begin to roll in at the start of next year.

Meanwhile you’ll have the BlackBerry 9720 with BlackBerry 7 as well as the BlackBerry 10-toting chiklet keyboard-loving BlackBerry Q5 to keep you company.
