With the arrival of Diablo III to consoles just around the corner, speculation was high at the Gamescom conference about what Blizzard would be adding to the game. Live reporting by Eurogamer shows an expansion called Reaper of Souls is set to add a new character class called the Crusader into the mix. Changes and […]
Good news gamers! If you have been waiting for a Diablo 3 expansion, it is now official as Blizzard has formally announced that Reaper of Souls will be the new Diablo 3 expansion! The expansion will introduce a new Crusader class, bringing the total number of playable classes to 6. The Crusader has also been seen as the Paladin for Diablo 3 who will also be getting both melee and ranged skills, with Fist of the Heavens being one of them.
The expansion will also see an increase of the level cap to 70 which is up from 60 for the original game. Unsurprisingly the expansion will also introduce a new act and will introduce a new final boss in the form of Malthael. So who is this Malthael character? (more…)
Diablo 3: Reaper Of Souls Expansion Announced With Trailers original content from Ubergizmo.
Just last week a Diablo 3 teaser page was released with the title, Reaper of Souls. It was hinted that this could be the upcoming expansion for Blizzard’s action RPG, Diablo 3, and in case you were thinking that it might be something else despite previous hints, it looks like the expansion can be confirmed, and that the trailer itself will be shown off at Gamescom which is taking place in Germany. This is thanks to the German classification board who posted classification details. The posting was titled “D3 D3C & D3XP (gamescom Trailer)” with its publisher listed as Blizzard Entertainment SAS, and the genre being referred to as “trailer”.
The fact that the title itself says “D3XP” is pretty much a dead giveaway, not to mention Blizzard’s own Nick Carpenter was quoted last week as saying, “Wrapped another amazing cinematic. Can’t wait to show the world!” all but confirms the expansion. In any case we expect it shouldn’t be too long before the trailer makes its debut, so be sure to check back with us later for the details and hopefully a video as well! So, who else is excited about the upcoming Diablo 3 expansion?

If there is one thing we love about Blizzard games is that the developer has a knack for telling stories and creating some pretty epic trailers, and if you’re a huge World of Warcraft fan who is still playing the game, or are looking to get back into it, a recently released trailer for Patch 5.4 could be worth your time. The patch is titled “Siege of Orgrimmar” and it basically pits players against 14 different bosses, with one of them being Garrosh Hellscream himself. The trailer itself looks pretty epic and the boss fights look pretty fun too, so if you have a few minutes to spare, it’s definitely worth checking out.
The patch is also expected to introduce a new area called the Timeless Isle and will include new Endless Events, and cross-realm features for lower population servers. The patch is due for a release on the 27th of August so it’s time to start gearing up! Given the epic proportions of this patch and considering that it does seem like a “finale” sort of raid, we wonder if this could be the last major raid introduced before Blizzard announces the next World of Warcraft expansion, which some are speculating could be unveiled at Gamescom later this month.

With Diablo 3 having been released more than a year ago, there’s a good chance that gamers have probably completed the game several times over with more than one character, and while the Paragon System does add a bit more “content” to the game, an expansion would probably serve everyone best, wouldn’t it? Last we heard Blizzard could announce the Diablo 3 expansion at Gamescom and sure enough it looks like that will be happening.
Blizzard has launched a site part of their Diablo 3 page with the title that reads “Reaper of Souls”, which some are taking to hint at the expansion’s name. Not much is known about this expansion as the page only features a quote from the Book of Tyrael saying, “Death, at least, shall spread its wings all over.” Pretty ominous stuff but either way sounds pretty exciting! Of course there’s no telling if this is the expansion for the game, or if could be a new novel, a trading card game, or whatever, but we’re definitely hoping for the best.
In related news, Blizzard has also recently trademarked “The Dark Below” title which could be a World of Warcraft expansion after Mists of Pandaria.

Blizzard, the company that does not rush out new games to its well loved franchises for the sake of being on time, but rather, prefers to polish everything down to the last bit as much as possible, throwing in killer cut scenes to boot, has recently registered a trademark for ‘The Dark Below’ which has been speculated by many to be a future World of Warcraft tie-in or a possible expansion.
Sure, subscription rates for World of Warcraft has not been too hot in recent times, but that is to be expected considering how the game has been around for so long already, and to still have so many players on their servers is an achievement to be proud of, as it remains to be one of the most popular gaming franchises today. ‘The Dark Below’ might ring a bell with those who eat and sleep Warcraft lore, where it has been spotted from the game’s RPG Monster Manual before – and in turn, raises hopes of a possible MMO expansion. Blizzard’s Monster Manual for World of Warcraft did describe “The Dark Below” as, “The Dark Below is a place inhabited by demons, devils and infernal creatures, from where some sorcerers take their power directly and sometimes have a patron beast to foster their magic.”

Earlier this year a fanmade mod for StarCraft 2 was launched called StarCraft Universe: Chronicles of Fate. It was impressive in a couple of different ways, one of which was how the developers managed to transform an RTS game into an MMO, and secondly the fact that Blizzard sanctioned this project meaning that the developers got the blessings from the company and didn’t have to worry about Blizzard shutting them down. Well the developers, Upheaval Arts, has announced a Kickstarter campaign for the game in which they are seeking funding of $80,000 in order to complete the game.
The MMO’s storyline will be an alternative ending to the Wings of Liberty game and “where the ending of StarCraft II:Wings of Liberty has a grim conclusion for Kerrigan. Without the Queen of Blades to stop the hybrid’s assault, the protoss are overwhelmed and defeated. In this reality, what would the survivors of these shattered worlds do? StarCraft Universe tells this story.” The game will feature 8 different classes including the Marine, Ghost, Medic, Firebat, Zealot, Dark Templar, Preserver, and High Templar.
The developers have also announced additional features such as customizable characters, weapons, mounts, voice-acted cutscenes, and varying difficultly levels. For more information about the game or to pledge your donation, hit up its Kickstarter page for the details!

While games are meant to be played, rather than you watching someone else play it, it can sometimes be pretty entertaining watching professional gamers in their element where you can really see the game and its features being utilized to its full potential. The good news for StarCraft 2 fans is that if you were hoping to watch the StarCraft 2 World Championship Series but because you have a job or school which means you can’t glue yourself in front of your computer forever, Blizzard has announced a new Blizzard WCS App for iOS, which we assume could end up being a huge distraction at both school and work!
Basically what the app does, in case it wasn’t already obvious, is that it will keep you informed and up to date on the progress of the event. While Blizzard states that the app won’t make you a better player, there’s always something that can be learnt from watching the pros and see how they think and react. The app will allow viewers to stream the competition live, VODs of recent matches, stream video to a TV using Airplay, set reminders for upcoming matches, and even prevent “spoilers” of the results of matches for those who are really picky about these sorts of things. The app is free for download and will be compatible with iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch devices. No word on when an Android version will be released.

To all things, there is a beginning and an end, and there is no running away from this fact. Nothing can be sustained at its peak for eternity, and the same applies to Blizzard’s World of Warcraft, which so happened to have shed nearly half of its peak subscriber base, and now has slightly less than 8 million active accounts. Having said that, the folks over at Blizzard must be wondering how come no one has been asking for a server merger, at least not on a large scale, and we too, have similar questions running through our heads. It is nice to know that Blizzard will be introducing Connected Realms in Patch 5.4, which functions in the same way as that of current dungeon cross-realm tech, save for the fact that they are full servers.
Blizzard explained, “In Patch 5.4, we’re looking to address this with a new feature called Connected Realms. Building on our existing cross-realm technology, a Connected Realm is a set of two or more standard realms that have been permanently and seamless “linked.” These linked realms will behave as if they were one cohesive realm, meaning you’ll be able to join the same guilds, access a single Auction House, run the same Raids and Dungeons, and join other adventurers to complete quests.”
As the end user, you have nothing to fret, since Connected Realms will remain matched in theme, including PvP and PvE among others, and will be wholly seamless. Who knows? More than two realms might even be connected!

World of Warcraft fans, if you’re looking to get a bit more insight into the World of Warcraft universe and learn some additional lore of the game, Blizzard has recently released an animated short in which it is the first of six episodes that will tell the story of the last Panderan emperor who ruled ten thousand years ago, which somehow manages to tie in with the story in the Mists of Pandaria expansion released last year. The short animation is titled “The Burdens of Shaohao” and this will be the first of six to come. It is told by Lorewalk Cho and the illustrations were done by Laurel Austin. If you have a few minutes to spare and you’re a huge World of Warcraft fan, perhaps you’ll want to check it out. We’re not sure if this will do anything to help Blizzard stop the bleeding of subscribers, but it’s nice to know Blizzard is still hard at work pumping out content for the game and the franchise nonetheless. So, who’s excited for the next episode?
