The New Fitbit Flex – a Health Coach on your Wrist

I’m not the most athletic person in the world, but I do realize that the time has come for me to step up the pace, or I’m going to pay the price someday. Everyone knows that exercise, quality sleep and a good diet are some of the keystones of a long and healthy life, but not everyone has the tools, or motivation they need in order to be successful.

Check out the brand new Fitbit Flex,  a slim, and stylish activity and sleep tracking monitor that’s with you all the time. The water resistant Fitbit Flex helps make fitness part of your everyday lifestyle. The new Fitbit Flex tracks steps taken, distance travelled, and calories burned, encouraging you to walk more and do more via bright LED indicator lights located on the wristband that give you immediate feedback on your progress. It can also track how long and how well you sleep, allowing you to learn how to sleep better, and it can help you keep track of the food you eat, leading to mindful munching.

The Fitbit Flex can be worn almost all the time, including in the shower, so it becomes a lifestyle, not a chore. With its Bluetooth capabilities, it connects wirelessly to both Apple and Android devices, updating your stats and notifying you of your goals and achievements. The Fitbit Flex also monitors your sleep times and hours, as well as being able to wake you gently each morning with a silent vibration of your wrist, so much better than that beeping box on your nightstand.

So, set some goals for yourself, monitor what you eat, sleep well, and keep track of it all with the Fitbit Flex, simply choose the color that fits your mood; Black, Slate, Teal, Tangerine, get your Fitbit app and get ready to get Fit, and share your progress with your friends. Antec to extend its Bluetooth product range with Pulse, SP1+, SP3 and SPzero (hands-on)

Antec to extend its Bluetooth product range with Pulse, SP1, SP3 and SPzero handson

To most people, Antec’s probably better known for its desktop-related products, but at Computex, the company made quite a big effort to pimp its A.M.P. (Antec Mobile Products) range of Bluetooth audio devices. You may have already come across the SP1 Bluetooth speaker (pictured above in several colors), but we’ve been told that an identical-looking SP1+ is coming this October. What’s new? Well, the refresh will come with NFC-enabled Bluetooth pairing, as well as CSR’s TrueWireless Stereo technology that will let you use one SP1+ as the left channel, and another SP1+ as the right channel (but both drivers in each SP1+ are still active in this case). Do read on to see what else Antec has up its sleeve later this year.

Creative Labs rolls out Sound Blaster EVO gaming headsets with Axx processing

Creative Labs rolls out EVO Zx gaming headsets with Axx processing, NFC

Creative is no stranger to the gaming headset scene, but it operates in a very crowded field — it needs more than just big earcups and a mic to stand out. The company’s new Sound Blaster EVO line of Bluetooth headsets may do the trick. Both the EVO Zx (40mm drivers) and EVO ZxR (50mm drivers) have the same Sound Blaster Axx processing as the company’s sound cards, which lets them clean up low-grade audio and fine-tune effects through desktop and mobile apps. They’ll also pair quickly with NFC-based devices, and players can still switch to a headphone jack or USB port when only wired sound will do. Creative hasn’t dished out US launch details, but it expects to ship the EVO Zx to the UK in July for £200 ($313), followed by the EVO ZxR in August for £250 ($392). Those willing to live Axx-free can also buy the EVO Wireless and EVO in July at respective prices of £150 ($235) and £100 ($157).

Nyko PlayPad Pro 2 hands-on

Nyko PlayPad Pro 2

Nyko’s PlayPad Pro controllers make gaming on Android much less painful, as anyone who has attempted to control a high-speed Sonic with a touchscreen can attest. So, how does the company follow up a largely successful peripheral that already performs its appointed tasks with aplomb? By changing very little, it appears. The PlayPad Pro 2 has a slightly sleeker and more aggressive design than its predecessor, but at a glance it may be hard to tell the two apart. The most distintive change is the addition of fins along the sides that should help keep your hands from getting too sweaty during extended button-mashing sessions. The biggest change, though, is to the analog sticks, which Nyko has upgraded with components from Alps that feel just about as good as what you’d find on a first-party controller from one of the big three console makers. Switching between HID, mouse, iCade and app modes is also incredibly easy thanks to the switch underneath.

The rubberized grips and soft-touch coating also ooze style in a way that many mobile gaming controllers can’t even dream of matching. Impressively, the gamepad is quite well balanced, despite being incredibly light. Though we don’t have an official weight, it’s certainly no heavier than the original. Our lone complaint is that the directional pad feels a bit stiff, but there’s always a chance for Nyko to rectify the situation since we were only handling prototype hardware. The PlayPad Pro 2 will be out later this year for $40. Make sure you check out the gallery below and the PR after the break.

Pure Jongo multi-room speaker system now available in North America

Pure Jongo multiroom speaker system now available in North America

If you’ve been thinking of adding speakers around the house but are loathe to run wires, Pure’s Jongo system is now available in North America, joining the likes of Sonos’ Play:3 in the wireless multi-room sound game. For now, it consists of the $129 Jongo A2, a WiFi- and Bluetooth-equipped bridge (at bottom) that spreads “perfectly synchronized” sound to different rooms, and the $199 Jongo S3 portable speaker (top left). The products will work on their own by receiving Bluetooth sound from your handheld device, together with other Pure devices like the Sensia 200D or with your existing sound system, thanks to digital and analog audio outputs on the A2. The Pure Connect iOS app coordinates the hardware and also lets you stream your local playlists, along with 15 million tracks from the Pure Music subscription service. You can deck out either product with the room-coordinating grilles (above) at $30 for the S3 and $20 for the A2, while a Jongo T6 100W flagship speaker will join the party later in the year at an undisclosed price. To see where to grab them, check the PR after the break.

Listing for 7-inch ASUS tablet with Bluetooth LE sets tongues a-wagging

Bluetooth SIG listing for 7inch ASUS tablet gets tongues wagging

We’ve been hearing mumblings that the next version of Android will get a new Bluetooth stack with v4.0 Low Energy (LE) goodness for a while now. That, at least, explains why the Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus have been re-sent through the Bluetooth SIG in order to gain approval for the newer standard. What’s less clear is what the ASUS K008, an apparently new 7-inch slate from the company, is doing supporting v4.0 LE. Our dour belief is that ASUS is merely future-proofing its forthcoming MeMo Pad HD 7, but perhaps “K008” is optimistic latin for “second-generation Nexus 7 with Android 4.3.”

iLuv releases $200 MobiAria Bluetooth speaker with one-touch NFC setup

EDIT iLuv releases MobiAria

We first caught a glimpse of iLuv’s MobiAria at this year’s CES, where it played second fiddle to the company’s Qi-certified wireless charger. Now front and center, the Bluetooth speaker is finally available from the company’s website (and select retailers) for $199.99. Like many of the speakers we’ve seen lately, the MobiAria builds in NFC technology to pair compatible devices with a simple tap. Other features include a 3.5mm jack for plugging in your device the old way, as well as a USB charging dock so your phone doesn’t tragically run out of juice while playing your favorite tune.
