Bolt Wall + Portable Charger Combination To Begin Shipping By End Of November

Bolt Wall + Portable Charger Combination To Begin Shipping By End Of NovemberRunning out of battery on your smartphone or tablet is not the best feeling, especially if it’s the middle of the day and you’ve got nowhere to charge your phone at, and that’s where portable chargers come in. The Bolt is one of them and according to its makers, they are claiming it to be the world’s smallest iPhone USB wall charger in the market today and based on what we can see, it certainly looks that way. For those who like what they see, they can expect to pick one up for themselves for a rather affordable $59.99 where it is expected to be begin shipping by the end of November.

The Bolt charger began as a Kickstarter project back in July of 2013 and was successfully funded. This device, unlike most portable chargers, can act as a regular wall charger due to its built in prongs that allow it to be hooked up to a regular wall socket to either act as a wall charger, or to charge itself after which you can bring it around with you as a portable device. It will feature a decent 3,000mAh battery meaning that it is more than capable of juicing up your iPhone more than once, and measures 70mm x 34mm x 28mm, which we have to say makes for a rather portable solution.

Digital Storm Bolt Is Thinnest Gaming PC In The World

Digital Storm Bolt Is Thinnest Gaming PC In The WorldI would like to think that Digital Storm’s claim that their Bolt is the thinnest gaming PC in the world is limited to those mass produced models, and not hand-crafted ones. Heck, even a custom made gaming PC chassis would be tricky if it were to measure 3.6 inches wide, so I guess that the Bolt does have its fair share of success to that claim.

In fact, Digital Storm has announced that they will be offering a Titan Edition of its award winning Bolt, and thanks to the inclusion of the spanking new NVIDIA GTX Titan (which is the world’s fastest graphics card), it will make use of similar technology that powers Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Titan, which has been deemed to be the world’s fastest supercomputer.

How can something so slim remain cool operationally? This was made possible by the Bolt’s unique ventilation system, making the Bolt one of the only systems in its class that is capable of handling the powerful GTX Titan. There are vents located near each critical component, not to mention large top and rear vents that do their bit to eliminate any stagnant air remaining within the system, while there is also a dedicated air channel that was created by a slotted side vent to cool the power supply.

Having said that, the Digital Storm Bolt Titan Edition is not going to come cheap – at $2,499 a pop.

Swann Security announces Bolt HD camera

When it comes to home-based security monitoring solutions, you will not be able to go wrong with Swann Security, and the company has recently announced the debut of their Bolt HD mini high definition action camera, where it was first introduced at CES 2013. The Bolt HD camera is a mini HD camera/DVR combo that comes in a rugged and waterproof form factor, alongside a bunch of mounting options that will enable outdoor enthusiasts to relive their most extreme moments over and over again. So, what do you get after parting with $199.99 for the Bolt HD camera?

Underneath the hood, you will find a color camera which can record 1080p or Full HD high resolution video at real time, and if you were to lust after still images, it would end up with 12-megapixel shots. Thanks to the inclusion of a built-in laser pointer, the Bolt HD will enable the user to confirm that the camera is on target, and more than ready to shoot. It has a protected lens so that the user is able to record far more details with its 135 degree angle lens.

The Bolt HD will feature a built-in stereo microphone which enables audio recordings that will be enhanced a whole lot more as you can hear all the action that is going on. The device is capable of stashing away around 10 hours of video recordings on a solitary microSD memory card of up to 32GB, giving you the freedom to swap out cards in a jiffy whenever it is full, or about to be.

The Bolt HD’s mini HDMI connection will let you hook it up to your big screen TV in the living room so that you can share your action in HD on the spot with family and friends. Thanks to a lithium-ion battery which juices up via USB, it is said to give you hours of power on end on a single charge. It is shockproof and waterproof up to 32’, and there are also no dials, gauges, knobs or any preferences to work with. If you are interested, the Swann’s Bolt HD will cost you $199.

Digital Storm Bolt stuffs full-power graphics into a mini gaming desktop, stretches laws of physics

Digital Storm Bolt stuffs fullpower graphics into a mini gaming PC

Attempts to create truly small gaming desktops usually involve at least some kind of performance hit. Even HP’s category-bending Firebird, one of the few stand-out examples, had to use toned-down graphics to succeed in a tiny enclosure. Digital Storm might have broken the trend towards sacrifice with its new Bolt desktop: although it’s just 3.6 inches wide and 14 inches tall, the Bolt can cram in as much as a GeForce GTX 680 and will even let gamers upgrade the graphics like they would in a full-size PC. The seemingly logic-defying (if also finger-defying) case still allows room for as much as an overclocked 4.6GHz Core i7, 16GB of RAM and storage options that meld a spinning hard drive with up to two SSDs and a DVD burner. Digital Storm isn’t even setting an absurd base price, but it’s in the cost that we finally see the catch to the miniaturization tricks. The $999 entry-level Bolt carries a modest 3.1GHz Core i3, 8GB of RAM, a 1TB hard drive and GeForce GTX 650 Ti, while it takes a staggering $1,949 to get a fully decked-out Core i7 system with a GTX 680. Those prices might be worthwhile for anyone who has ever strained while lugging a traditional tower to a game tourney.

Digital Storm’s Bolt gaming machine claims to be future-proof

Of course, we would not expect anyone to take Digital Storm’s claim for their Bolt gaming PC to be future-proof, as any gamer worth his or her salt knows that this is not how the gaming world works, especially when it comes to hardware. Still, if you are interested to see what the Bolt is all about, read on – it comes with a custom designed chassis that delivers an extremely pleasing thin form factor to the eyes, without sacrificing on room for future upgradability, with most of the grunt work being borne by a 4.6GHz overclocked CPU.

The Bolt measures a mere 3.6” wide and is 14” tall, where its thin chassis was specially designed to effectively dissipate heat despite holding the most updated and fastest components on the market. Capable of holding up to three hard drives, a couple of SSDs and 1 mechanical, you know that it has unparalleled storage flexibility – at least for a home-based gaming rig. Prices for the Digital Storm Bolt start from $999 upwards, depending on the hardware configuration of your choice, so take your pick.

World’s Thinnest Gaming PC Punches Above its Weight

Far too many gaming PCs are hulking beasts. They don’t call em “towers” for nothing. Digital Storm is trying to fight that chunky, space-stealing trend with its new Bolt PC. Billed as the world’s thinnest, Bolt’s form is certainly slender, but it doesn’t want for more under the hood. More »

ISS Astronauts Finally Fix Stripped Bolts and Finish Power System Repairs

A few weeks back I was replacing a valve cover gasket on a race car and accidentally rounded off a bolt that was in a hard-to-reach spot. I was working on that bolt in the garage and it took me hours of cursing and trips to the hardware store to get the damaged bolt out and a new one in. I have a deep appreciation for what astronauts aboard the ISS have been going through as they struggled with a damaged bolt on the outside of the orbiting space station.

    iss fix

In the weightlessness of space, and with no Home Depot nearby, I can only imagine the ISS astronauts wanted to curse and throw tools, just as I did. They had to remain calm, and thankfully had a team of engineers to help work on a fix. The problem was that a bolt that held a replacement power unit to the main truss of the space station was cross-threaded and wouldn’t tighten properly.

The astronauts conducted a spacewalk this week and successfully repaired the damage bolt and attached the replacement power unit to the outside of the space station. Since the hardware store was hundreds of miles below, the astronauts had to create improvised tools. The tools were made from spare parts aboard the station and a toothbrush. The astronauts also used a pressurized can of nitrogen gas the blow metal shavings out of the bolt receptacles. It’s like an episode of MacGyver in space.
