TomTom Go Series with TomTom Traffic

TomTom Go Series with TomTom TrafficTomTom has already updated its GPS lineup Go series in Europe back in April and today, the company launched the new TomTom Go Series with TomTom Traffic in the US.

The most significant update is the total re-thinking and re-design of the user interface, and from the screen shots I saw, it looks really promising: everything looks sleeker and nicer, the color scheme is much more harmonious and all the information looks easier to access from the main screen than on the past generation. One key feature I really like is the route bar located on the right side of the screen which lets users see what is coming on the road ahead of time. The software update is really a great improvement (on the paper) over the last generation of Go devices launched at CES 2011.

On the hardware side the key update is the absence of internal 2G/Edge cellular radio, you need to pair your TomTom Go over Bluetooth with your smartphone where you download the companion Traffic app (iOS and Android).

Samsung NX30 Improves Auto-Focus, Ergonomics And More

Samsung NX30 Improves Auto Focus, Ergonomics And More[CES 2014] Samsung has officially unveiled its NX30 Smart Camera, its new high-end, non-Android Smart Camera. It is the successor of the NX300 that we played with in January of last year, before giving it a full review in October. The specifications of the Samsung NX30 look very good: APS-C sensor with 20.3 Megapixel, up to 25600 ISO and burst shooting of 9 frames per second.

The auto-focus (AF) system is what has attracted my attention: with 123 Phase-Detect sensors and 237 Contrast-based sensors integrated in the main image sensor, the AF system looks terrific on paper and should be able to nicely compete with mid-range DSLR cameras. It should also outperform a whole lot of mirror-less cameras that have less sophisticated AF systems. This is a big deal because the focus speed has always been a traditional weak point of mirror less systems. Now that phase detection is built into the main image sensor, this problem should in theory go away. We can’t wait to try this in the field.

    Pebble App Store Announced

    Pebble App Store Announced
Today, Pebble announced its app store and we are very happy about this news, this will make the process of finding and installing the applications more friendly for new users. When I tried the Pebble, I found it a little complicated to find good applications easily.

Right now, there are many places where you can download Pebble apps and watch faces besides within the Pebble app, the Google Play store and the Apple App store. PebbleBarn and MyPebbleFaces.com are the most popular third party app and face stores and they are recommended on the Pebble Support Center.

The Pebble App Store will go live early next year alongside the SDK 2.0 that was announced a month ago. According to the company, the app store will include 7 categories for Daily, Remotes, Games, Notifications, Tools & Utilities, Sports & Fitness and Watchfaces.  In each category, users will find a selection of the best apps.
