Hasta La Gadget!

AT&T wants you to know that you don’t need a smartphone just to get a rich, full web experience from your handset — theoretically, anyway — with the introduction of four new models from longtime partners Samsung and Pantech alongside a new featurephone browser. First up from Samsung comes the Flight (pictured left), billed as a “next-generation messaging device” on account of its full QWERTY portrait slide paired with a full touchscreen up top; it’ll be available next month for $99.99 on contract after rebate — that is, if you didn’t buy it on Craigslist already. That silvery slate in the middle that’s more likely to be catching your eye is the Mythic, rocking TouchWiz on a 3.3-inch display along with AT&T Mobile TV, making it a fitting successor to the Eternity and big brother to the Solstice; like the Flight, it swings onto retail next month, but you’ll be paying a stiffer $199.99 on contract after $50 rebate.

Turning our attention to the Pantech side of the table, we’ve got the Reveal (pictured right) that lets you have it both ways with a numeric keypad up top twined with a QWERTY slider underneath. It’s 3G-capable, AT&T Navigator-equipped, and available for your enjoyment on October 18 in red and blue. Finally, the Impact (not pictured) has an OLED touchscreen up front, but when the texting gets hot and heavy, the phone opens up to reveal a second display along with a QWERTY keyboard. It’ll be available in pink and blue, though neither pricing nor availability are being announced just yet.

Gluing everything together is AT&T’s new mobile browser, described as “a rich hybrid experience that gives you a HTML experience similar to your PC browser at home” that “works really well on a feature phone.” Additionally, users visiting att.net from their PCs will be able to send bookmarks to their phones’ mobile portals — kind of a neat trick, especially when you’re trying to minimize the number of URLs you have to mash out on an on-screen keyboard. Of course, featurephone browsers have a reputation for generally sucking, so considering that AT&T bills its new line of devices as “full web browsing phones,” it’ll be interesting to see how close they actually come to delivering on the claim; it’s said the phones use “advanced data compression from Opera Software,” which we’re thinking is very likely some variation of Opera Turbo — not a bad start.

Well, well, what’s this? A new Apple Bluetooth keyboard and mouse have arrived at the FCC, and they’ve got new model numbers of A1314 and A1296 — the current wireless keyboard is A1255 and the Mighty Mouse is A1197. That’s pretty much all we know for now, but these keyboard dimensions are also smaller than the current model, which rules out a return of the numeric keypad — sorry to dash your hopes, Excel jockeys. Is this the new keyboard rumored to accompany an iMac refresh? We’ll have to wait to find out — but on a similar note, AppleInsider says Steve Jobs himself is leading the development of this new mouse, featuring some kind of multitouch and potentially housed in an aluminum shell. That would certainly explain those multitouch mouse patents we’ve seen in the past, as well as bring the desktop mousing experience in line with the multitouch action found on the MacBooks — AI says the new mice somehow enable iPhone-style kinetic scrolling, which would definitely be interesting. So… you want to maybe schedule an event to launch all this stuff, Steve?

Update: And… Apple’s managed to yank the images out of the FCC filings, which is about as fast as we’ve ever seen that happen.

Update 2: Revised images have been posted, carefully cropped to show only the relevant FCC labeling — although model numbers remain. This is absolutely the fastest we’ve ever seen the FCC database change, it’s rather impressive.

Update 3: AppleInsider’s revised their post to say an aluminum mouse is just speculation, so this thing could be plastic after all.

Those Imagio rumors have proven to be deliciously correct, with Verizon officially announcing the beastly Windows Mobile 6.5 set for availability on October 6 — the first day 6.5 devices will officially be available anywhere. HTC’s latest CDMA device features a spacious wide VGA display clocking in at 3.6 inches, a 5 megapixel autofocus cam, quadband EDGE plus HSPA 2100 for when you’re looking for a little connectivity abroad, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and the very latest iteration of TouchFLO 3D featuring social network integration, but the most interesting feature might be its support for MediaFLO-based VCAST TV — a first for HTC and Windows Mobile. Interest parties need only wait until next Tuesday to latch onto an Imagio online, while retail stores will be taking delivery on the 20th of the month — either way, you’ll be paying $199.99 on contract after rebate.

We’re expecting the official release of Android 1.6 phones any day now, but those of you hardcore enough to rock the badass unlocked Dream known as the Android Dev Phone 1 can get a bite of that Donut immediately: HTC’s posted up an official 1.6 image file for you. Sadly it doesn’t seem like regular G1 or Dream owners can use this code, but at least someone’s having a good time.
