Logitech Unveils Broadcaster Wi-Fi Webcam: Stream Live Video on the Go

If you’re the sort that likes to shoot lots of video to put on YouTube or Facebook, and you don’t want to be tied to your computer for recording Logitech has a new Webcam you’ll like. The new Webcam is called the Logitech Broadcaster Wi-Fi Webcam and it is aimed at video professionals, bloggers, and other users. The camera offers the ability to live-stream video and shoot from different angles.

The camera supports Mac computers and is able to stream video live directly to Ustream with the touch of a button. Users can also preview or control the video using an iPad, iPhone, or Mac computer. The camera has a special carrying case to protect it when you’re traveling with it. The carrying case also doubles as a stand allowing you to prop the camera up for recording.

The camera supports popular Mac video editing software and works with Skype, FaceTime, and more. The Logitech Broadcaster camera will launch this month at an MSRP of $199.99(USD).

Contour launches ContourROAM2 action cams at a budget price

The Contour+2 action camcorder is arguably one of the best on the market, right up there with GoPro‘s offerings, but the $400 price tag certainly isn’t that great to look at. However, Contour has just released a new line of action cams called ContourROAM2, which offer some of the great features of its more-expensive brethren, but only costs half as much.

The ContourROAM2 costs only $199 and can shoot full 1080p HD video at 30fps, and 720p HD video at 60fps. It also comes with a 4GB microSD card, but we’re guessing you’ll want something a bit more substantial if you’re really wanting to take advantage of the camera while you’re blazing the trails all day.

The ContourROAM2 can also capture videos up to one meter underwater without any kind of waterproof case (since the camera itself is waterproof), and the camera has a 270-degree rotating lens topped off with a laser level to precisely line up your shots.

The new camera also has improved image quality (expected) and an aluminum shell that comes in four different colors: black, red, and blue, with green being an Amazon exclusive up until the end of the year when it will be widely available. The camera will be available starting October 21 Best Buy, Amazon, and other retailers.

Miveu POV Camera System targets iPhone owners

They say that there’s “an app for everything”, but is that really true? I guess for most parts, the answer would be in the affirmative, but when it comes to hardware, the same cannot be said. The thing is, if you are an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S owner, then you might be interested in picking up the $99.99 Miveu POV Camera System For iPhone. It looks like something from the future, sporting a high impact cover with wide-angle lens as well as an adjustable angle chest clip, accompanied by a flexible chest plate and elastic straps that allows you to capture some of the most daring moments in your life as you climb that mountain, jump out from the plane, or get involved as a professional pugilist.

Basically, any kind of adrenaline pumping activity that requires you to use both hands, and yet you want to record all that is going on in front of you, the Miveu POV Camera System will be able to fit the bill perfectly. The Miveu-X iPhone Case will come in the form of a rugged iPhone case that can clip itself right onto the back of your phone, boasting a replaceable wide-angle lens and a 360º ball joint which enables you to attach it to your chest. There is also an integrated shutter button that allows you to start and stop recording without having to remove the iPhone, now how about that? Too bad it is compatible only with the iPhone 4 or 4S, even the iPhone 5 has been ruled out.

Red offers ‘truckload’ of one-time rental Scarlet-Xs for almost $5K off each

DNP Red offers 'truckload' of onetime rental Scarlets for almost $4K off

If you were thinking of getting a Red Scarlet-X 4K baby cinema cam for that pet film feature, but were on the fence because, well, $11,900 is a lot of cash — there’s good news. The company just announced they would be selling “a whole truckload of Scarlets” for $7,100 each instead, as they had been used on a rental for a “pretty special 3 second shot.” As such, the camera body has less than a minute of recording time, and would come with an SSD module, Canon mount and full warranty for that sum — along with the option to change out the MX sensor to Red’s upcoming Dragon model, presumably. Bear in mind that you’d still lack the SSD drive, LCD, batteries or charger needed to shoot, but even with all that would still be under the regular basic price — meaning you might be able to stop saving up and start shooting.

Logitech announces $200 Broadcaster WiFi webcam for iPhone, iPad and Mac (video)

DNP Logitech announces Broadcaster webcam for Mac with live streaming, multiangle talents

After trying (and failing) to surreptitiously shepherd it through the FCC, then seeing it leak out anyway, Logitech has formally outed the HD WiFi Broadcaster webcam. The 720P shooter (not 1080p as we hoped) allows wireless transmission from 50 feet away to any Mac computer, iPhone or iPad, instant broadcasting on Ustream and the ability to toggle between your device or computer’s built in camera with a button push. The hard plastic carrying case with a magnetic lid doubles as a stand to elevate the cam, which Logitech says will “play nicely” with apps like iMovie, Final Cut Pro and FaceTime. Broadcaster is already up for preorder for $200 in the US and 180 in Europe, so if you want to show that you’re doubly beautiful with a multi-cam Skype call, the PR and video are after the break.

Logitech Broadcaster WiFi Webcam beams straight to Ustream

Logitech has outed its latest webcam, the Logitech Broadcaster WiFi Webcam, and as the name suggests it cuts the cord with some integrated wireless. Capable of streaming directly to Ustream, the new camera can also be used with the Broadcaster app for Mac, iPad, or iPhone, for more control over what gets squirted online. Meanwhile, the WiFi Webcam can also be used to accompany the existing camera built into your laptop.

It works with FaceTime, iChat, and Skype for Mac, with a button on top toggling between the Mac’s integrated FaceTime camera and the Logitech’s wireless stream. That way you can flick between viewpoints midway through a call, handy if you need to give a close-up or a demonstration.

Logitech Broadcaster WiFi Webcam overview:

Wireless recording is possible with QuickTime and Photo Booth, along with iMovie and Final Cut Pro if you want to do some editing too. Video is shot at up to 720p HD resolution, with mono audio and in H.264 format; there’s a 3x digital zoom and an external microphone input. Logitech says the battery is good for up to 2hrs of use, though you’ll get less if you turn on the integrated video light.

Even the case does more than just protect the camera. It works as a stand, with a magnetic base on the lid holding the Broadcaster in place; there’s also a standard tripod screw, if you need more flexibility.

The Logitech Broadcaster WiFi Webcam will go on sale this month in the US and Europe, and is up for preorder now at $199.99 or £159.99. Unfortunately it looks to be Mac-only for the moment.

Visualized: Google Street View car fleet gets ready to conquer (and map) the world

Visualized Google Street View car fleet gets ready to conquer and map the world

Ever wonder how Google can make such grandiose claims for the sheer amount of Street View imagery it collects? Here’s how. Google’s Masrur Odinaev has posted a snapshot of a central mapping car parking lot that shows dozens of the camera-equipped Subaru Imprezas amassed ahead of future runs. While it already represents more Street View cars in one place than anyone outside of Google would normally ever see, what’s most impressive is remembering that this addresses just a portion of the entire vehicle mix — aside from the local cars you don’t see in the photo, there are extra units worldwide providing street-level coverage alongside tricycles and underwater expeditions. Odinaev’s look reminds us just how much effort is needed to make Street View a common feature — and that there are are legions of Google staffers whose low-profile work goes a long way towards making our navigation easier.

Sony’s Action Cam… in action (video)

Sony's Action Cam in action video

We’re quite familiar with ruggedized camcorders here at Engadget, be they from GoPro or Contour. However, Sony recently entered the extreme video fray with its Action Cam, and we got the chance to do a little POV recording with one. The videos produced were on par with what we’ve seen from the Action Cam’s competition — a nice wide view and decent quality. While we’ve seen other such cams have trouble with color balance, the Sony’s was accurate both indoors and out and it adjusted to transitions from dim to bright environments quickly. And, while the SteadyShot image stabilization tech didn’t eliminate all the shakes in our videos, it did noticeably reduce them. That said, you don’t have to take our word for it, head on past the break and see the results for yourselves.
