Generate Your 3D Gummy Self

Japan is home to all sorts of unusual stuff, and the hits keep on coming. While the technology to 3D print a tiny model of yourself has existed for a while, this is the first time I’ve heard of using the same material used to make gummy bears/worms/critters to do it.

The guys at the Shibuya, Japan FabCafe recently offered men a chance to generate 3D models of themselves to give to their significant others for White Day, the Japanese holiday on which men present gifts to women to reciprocate for their Valentine’s Day presents.

They only offered up spaces to nine men to have their bodies scanned and turned into gummy versions of themselves, and it cost about $64 (USD) for each gummy model to be created. That’s one expensive gummy guy, but it’s still less expensive than this guy:

Your Old Hard Drives Are DIY Cotton Candy Machines Just Waiting to Happen

What with cloud storage becoming more and more affordable, chances are you’ve got a stack of old hard drives just laying around somewhere. At least one. You could just throw them away, or leave them to languish, or you could throw caution to the wind and make one into a cotton candy machine. Just in time for Easter. More »

Jolly Rancher-Scented Polish Makes Nails Hard to Resist

Lotta Luv is a cosmetics company that’s no stranger to collaborating with well-known chocolate and candy franchises. The latest one they’ve forged is with Jolly Rancher, where they’ve incorporated the candy’s familiar flavors into the scents and colors of their new 5-color nail polish set.

jolly rancher nail polish

I know many nailbiters try to kick the bad habit by coating their nails with a layer or two of polish, but this is a set they should probably avoid if they want to succeed at their goal. The candy colors are tempting and perfect for summer, but if you’re trying to keep yourself from chewing on your cuticles, then these are a no-no.

Each set comes with five bottles of polish with the following color and flavor combinations: cherry (red), grape (violet), watermelon (pink), blue raspberry (obviously this one is blue), and green apple (which is again, obviously green.)

If Jolly Rancher isn’t your type, then maybe you’d fancy Bubble Yum or Nerds-scented polishes by Lotta Luv instead. You can get the Jolly Rancher polish set from Amazon for $8.88.

Eye of Sauron Lollipops: Lick into My Eye!

One does not simply walk into the candy store. Though if you did, I’d hope that you and your companions would grab a batch of these spectacular lollipops that look like the Eye of Sauron.

They’re made by Etsy artist Designer Lollipop, and they’re made from isomalt, sugar, corn syrup. I’ve been told the black sugar on back is made from the souls of the dead- though they actually taste like delicious cherry.

Unfortunately, these lollies are already sold, but I’m sure you could whip up a spell to convince the candy maker to crank out another batch.

Brains Never Tasted This Sweet: Zombie Brains Chocolate Treats

When I think of zombies and brains, I remember that hilarious music video that you can watch after you play all the levels of Plants vs. Zombies. You know, the one that goes There’s a zombie on your lawn…

This time around, though, you can turn the tables on those zombies and eat their brains instead. Figuratively, that is, because as you all know, zombies don’t exist. At least not yet.

Zombie Brain1

If you fancy having a taste of zombie brains because you’re bored with your current food choices, then turn to KnotTheOrdinary because they won’t disappointed.

They’re currently offering a sweet set of six teeny tiny Zombie Brain chocolate treats filled with your gooey filling of choice (you can choose from three!) for just $10(USD).

The Best Way to Drink Chocolate Beer is From a Chocolate Glass

My life changed when I sipped a shot of Bailey’s mixed with chocolate liquor. I guess you could say that my life changed at that point, because I never liked the taste of alcohol nor appreciated it all – until that very moment.

Japanese brewery Sankt Gallen is no stranger to chocolate booze.

chocolate beer glassIn fact, they brew a damned good chocolate stout that’s about to get even better. Sankt Gallen’s newest offering is a special set which includes a 330mL bottle of their chocolate stout, along with a completely edible glass that’s made entirely out of chocolate.

Rocket News 24 is quick to explain that the chocolate glass might be able to counteract the bitterness of the the “ultra-dark beer”, which is apparently brewed “with over twice the ingredients of your average dark beer including roasted ‘chocolate malt.’”

Chocolate stout with a side of chocolate? Sounds good to me.

Chocolate Bruce Willis Die Hard Sculpture: Yummy-Ki-Yay!

This chocolate sculpture of Bruce Willis was made for a press conference in Japan for the release of A Good Day To Die Hard. It looks even more like Bruce Willis than Joseph Gordon-Levitt did in Looper. It’s a good day to bite hard on this delicious sculpture.

Only the Japanese could take a pointless movie sequel and use it as a good excuse to make a life-sized chocolate treat. Who else is going to do it? No one! Thank you, kind people of Japan.

Come out to Japan… Check your own likeness in chocolate… Have a few bites. Little did John McClane know that Japanese terrorists had turned the heat up in the building, threatening to melt the sculpture unless they got 640 million dollars in bearer bonds.

Chocolate Camera: the Way to a Photographer’s Heart

…and to the dentist’s office. Etsy seller Hans Chung has created the opposite of the camera that looks like a chocolate bar. I wonder which of the two is stranger. You be the judge. Behold! A life-size chocolate replica of the Canon D60, including a lens and battery grip. Your teeth just fell off didn’t they?

According to Hans, the mold that he used to create the chocolate was made from an actual D60 and lens, which were both rendered unusable in the process of making said mold. Granted, Hans didn’t say if the camera was already broken when he bought it. Still, he earns points for authenticity there. Chocolate connoisseurs might be glad to know that Hans used Guittard chocolate to make the replica. Or you might not be glad. I don’t know what you guys are into.

Having digested all those details and images, I’m sure you know by now that this is is going to cost you. Hans is selling the solid chocolate Canon D60 camera on his Etsy shop for $500 (USD), i.e. half the price of the actual camera. If it’s any consolation, as of this writing Hans said that he will make only 5 more of these, which makes it a lot rarer than the actual D60.

Childhood Dream Come True: PEZ Dispensers Personalized with Your Face

I used to have the largest collection of PEZ dispensers among my friends – that is, before our dog discovered my stash and chewed them all to unrecognizable bits. While I mourned the loss of my collection, I was sick with relief that our dog didn’t choke on the tiny plastic parts.

If you have a long and rich history with PEZ like I do, then no doubt you’ll find the idea of having a PEZ dispenser featuring your face a fun one.

Before anything else, yes, it is possible, and yes, it’s been done (fairly recently) before. Hot Pop Factory had a client who wanted to give their employees a customized holiday gift in the form of – you guessed it – PEZ dispensers with their faces on them.

So how’d they do it? Hot Pop Factory co-founders and designers Matt Compeau and Bi-Ying Miao used an Xbox Kinect motion-sensor to scan the head of each recipient of the gift and then used a 3D printer to print out the PEZ dispenser replica heads.

Now that’s what I call a truly personalized present. PEZ needs to start offering this as a service on their website immediately.
