Canon Teases Announcement For 24th April

Canon Teases Announcement For 24th AprilHeads up photographers and Canon fans, it seems that the Japanese camera company has an announcement that they are planning on making this coming Thursday. It is unclear what it is but the teaser was posted on Canon Hong Kong’s Facebook page and all it shows what appears to be a cup that can be found during Japanese tea ceremonies, along with a quote.

The quote is from an essay by Jun’ichiro Tanizaki which when translated reads, “beauty lies not in objects but in the interaction between the shadow and light created by objects.” It’s a bit mysterious and we’re not sure what it could be referring to. There is a chance that the teaser could be about a new camera announcement, but at the same time it could also be related to camera lenses or new accessories from the camera manufacturer.

Some have speculated that the quote could allude to a new fast prime lens with a possible aperture of f/0.95, which not only makes the lens incredibly bright and a joy to shoot with in low-light situations, but it sounds like it could also be used to create photos with shallow depth of field.

We can only imagine that this lens could cost a fortune but either way, check back with us on the 24th of April for the details.

All White Canon EOS 100D Announced For The UK

All White Canon EOS 100D Announced For The UKBack in 2013, Canon announced the EOS 100D DSLR camera. The camera is pretty small as far as DSLRs are concerned but we guess it makes it easier to carry compared to the higher-end professional cameras which tend to be much bigger and heavier. That being said, it seems that Canon has an exclusive model that they have announced in the UK in the form of an all-white EOS 100D camera which you can see pictured above.

As you can see in the image above, the entire camera has been painted white, save for certain parts of the camera, but safe to that pretty much the entire camera has been given a new coat of paint which we have to say is pretty striking. We can only imagine that it will look pretty good and sleek in the snow, especially if you’re trying to camouflage the camera.

In terms of the hardware, it will pack the same hardware as the regular EOS 100D. This means that photographers can look forward to an 18MP hybrid CMOS AF II sensor. It will also come with an optical viewfinder, a larger touchscreen display, Full HD video recording, and will also come bundled with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens that has also been given a coat of white paint.

If you’re looking to attach a different lens, then we guess there will be a clash of colors, but if the 18-55mm kit lens is more than enough for you, then you’re looking at a pretty sleek looking device. As for pricing and availability, Canon has announced that the white EOS 100D will be priced at £499/€599 and will be available starting from May 2014.

Canon Doesn’t See Smartphones As The Enemy

Canon Doesnt See Smartphones As The EnemySmartphones are ubiquitous nowadays. Just about everyone has them. Heck, even kids these days are packing some pretty high-end smartphones themselves! That being said, it also means that everyone now has a camera on them compared to before where you’d actually have to buy a camera if you wanted to take photos.

So what does this mean for camera manufacturers? Nikon had previously stated that due to smartphones becoming more common, they’ve started to work on projects that would change the concept of cameras. But what about Canon? In a recent interview with DPreview, Canon’s Managing Director and Chief Executive, Image Communication Products Operations, Masaya Maeda, doesn’t appear too fazed. (more…)

Canon EOS M2 Will Be Arriving To The US

Canon EOS M2 Will Be Arriving To The USBack in 2013, Canon announced the EOS M2. The camera is the successor to the EOS M, Canon’s first attempt at going mirrorless, which safe to say left a lot to be desired, some of which was addressed in the EOS M2, namely its autofocus system.

In any case while the camera was announced, it seems that the device was limited to Japan at that time, leaving many wondering if Canon had plans to ever bring it to the US or Europe for that matter. Well the good news is that yes, Canon will be bringing it to the US although there is no word on when that will be. (more…)

Canon EOS 7D MK II Rumored For Q2 2014 AnnouncementWe’ve been hearing a lot about the Canon EOS 7D MK II for a while now. The camera was rumored to be launched in 2014, and then it was suggested that CP+ could be a possible launching grounds. However as the event has come and gone with no word from Canon, it turns out that rumor was a dud after all.

Canon Is Not A Fan Of Retro Designed Cameras

Canon Is Not A Fan Of Retro Designed CamerasAs you might have realized, nowadays there seems to be a trend in which camera manufacturers have designed their products to look retro (like Olympus, Fujifilm, and Panasonic, just to name a few), like how cameras would have looked like back in the day. This is not a bad thing as it does offer up a change of pace from the usual camera designs, but if there is one camera manufacturer who has opted not to follow the trend, it would be Canon. In fact Canon’s disdain for the design of such cameras has become pretty apparent when the company recently published a PDF titled, “Story of the PowerShot G1 X Mark II Development”.

In case the title wasn’t obvious, the PDF basically describes how Canon came about designing the look of the company’s latest camera, the Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II. However within the brochure, there was one paragraph that was spotted by the.me that stood out from the rest. “Currently there is a trend towards designing premium compact cameras like classic cameras. However, Canon has kept its distance from this trend. As a result, the design is not pretentious, and it also does not look like a so-called compact camera, and achieves a great balance between traditional and new.” Based on this paragraph, it seems that Canon is not overly fond of such designs meaning that if you were hoping for a retro-looking Canon camera in the future, your best bet would be a second-hand camera shop.
