Limited Edition Canon PowerShot S120 And G16 Coming Soon

Limited Edition Canon PowerShot S120 And G16 Coming SoonWhen it comes to cameras, we’re guessing photographers are more concerned about how well it performs, rather than how it looks. Granted looks do matter, but essentially it’s what’s underneath that counts, right? Well either way if you’re after some cameras and wouldn’t mind a limited edition look to them, Canon is expected to launch limited edition models of their PowerShot S120 and PowerShot G16 cameras, with pre-orders of both cameras expected to open come 30th October 2013 via Canon’s eStore. The hardware powering the cameras will be the same as their regular edition models, with the main difference being their looks.

Customers will be able to choose color options as well as choose to place an engraving on the cameras if they wish. There will be special accessories bundled and put together in special packaging as well. For those who are interested and wouldn’t mind getting their hands on said cameras, you can expect the Canon PowerShot S120 to retail for $560, while the PowerShot G16 will go for around $700.

3D-Printing Fine Art Fakes Is Here to Stay

Not willing to let Fujifilm own the 3D-printed fine art reproduction market, Canon’s Océ Group—responsible for the company’s professional large format printers—is working with Dutch researcher Tim Zaman on a similar approach to accurately duplicating famous paintings.

Canon uses high-sensitivity 35mm full-frame sensor to record HD fireflies in the dark

Recording video in the dark often requires a supplementary IR light to be possible, with such small pin-pricks of light as fireflies being invisible in the dark to most camera sensors. Canon has successfully recorded the tiny glowing insects, however, using a full-frame 35mm high-sensitivity CMOS sensor that it had announced back in March of […]

Visualized: Canon 35mm CMOS sensor captures fireflies in HD

Canon impressed us back in March when it unveiled its 35mm full frame CMOS sensor, which is capable of recording footage in extremely low-light situations. This time around, the company set its sights on the Yaeyama-hime fireflies on Ishigaki Island off the coast of Japan. Shortly after sundown, the Canon team managed to capture a forest full of lightning bugs in full HD in near-dark settings. To watch the video in all its bioluminescent glory, mosey on past the break.

Canon’s Experimental Video Sensor Sees the World in Utter Darkness

Canon's Experimental Video Sensor Sees the World in Utter Darkness

Back in March, Canon showed off an in-development video sensor that could capture the details of a scene in almost no light. The results were primitive, but impressive. A new video clip of fireflies in a dark forest shows the progresses Canon is making, and it’s pretty amazing.

New firmware gives Canon’s Cinema EOS camera line a prodigious 80,000 ISO

Firmware update gives Canon's Cinema cameras 80,000 ISO

Those who shelled out big bucks for one of Canon’s Cinema EOS cameras will be glad to know they’ve just been blessed with a significant firmware upgrade. Owners of the EOS C500, C300, C100 and 1D C 4K models will all see a huge increase in light gathering, with the maximum ISO jumping from 20,000 to 80,000. That’s one of the highest ISO settings on a pro camcorder, and you’ll now be able to roll through the entire ISO range in 1/3 stop increments instead of a full stop at a time, too. Meanwhile, the top of the line C500 model will get new DCI-P3+ and Cinema Gamut color options, along with a new high-speed, 120fps shooting mode at 4,096 x 1,080. The C300 will also get a new Wide DR color gamut and all the models will get various tweaks and bug fixes. For the finer details, check the source.

New Canon EOS M Announcement Coming Soon [Rumor]

New Canon EOS M Announcement Coming Soon [Rumor]We have been hearing rumors that Canon is set to launch a new EOS M camera, and according to the folks at Canon Rumors, they have been tipped off that a launch for the alleged device is coming soon. Apparently Canon will be announcing two new EOS M cameras, one of them being a slight upgrade over the current EOS M, while the other will be a more higher-end device, although the exact specifications of either camera remain unknown at this point in time. For those familiar with the current EOS M, we guess a slight upgrade will not be hard to imagine, while the alleged higher-end EOS M could come with an EVF as one of its features.

The new EOS M is also expected to be priced much lower than the current model, making it more accessible to the masses, not to mention probably providing a nice price contrast compared to the higher-end model. It has also been rumored to come in a variety of colors which we guess would make it more appealing to consumers who are a bit sick of the regular black finish. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but no word on when we could be seeing an announcement ,but hopefully “coming soon” means in the next couple of weeks, not months, but do check back with us at a later date for the details.

Canon’s Legria mini camcorder wants to be best friends with your social media (hands-on)

Canon Legria mini goes on sale this month, ready to record fullmotion selfies handson

It’s a strange one. Canon’s new pocketable camera certainly isn’t your typical video camera. Aimed squarely at those looking to capture themselves, the Legria mini records up to 1080p video through a special wide-angle (170-degree) lens, ensuring you can fit your whole family (or dance crew?) into your clips. With a 180-degree flexible display on board too, you can adjust the camera’s position as needed. When we tested an early unit in Canon’s home turf in Japan, the combination of both a posable screen and a stand beneath the unit meant getting a good angle from the floor or work surface was a simple task. Behind that wide-angle f/2.8 lens, there’s a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, mechanical shutter, Canon’s DIGIC DV 4 processor and (in case you needed it) a 12.8-megapixel sensor for stills. Looking to improve your video coverage of, well, you? We’ve got more details and impressions after the break. %Gallery-slideshow76482%
