Automatic, the smart driving startup that builds an accessory for just about any vehicle, is expanding its list of retail partners beyond Apple thanks to a new deal with Amazon. That means the car will be available to a whole new group of customers, thanks to a distribution arrangement with the world’s largest online retailer.
Automatic’s Link plugs into a car’s ODB-11 port, which is generally going unused on any vehicle between service spots, but which essentially provides access to the car’s central nervous system and can relate back a huge amount of information about your vehicle and its travels, including fuel consumption, detailed information about “check engine” and other service lights that appear on your dashboard, and can also detect crashes and send automatic calls for help.
The deal for Automatic means retail presence that could help it become more than just a niche product for tech enthusiasts. And that could be good news for the connected car space in general: Our own Chris Velazco reviewed the product and found that it helped make him more conscious of his own driving habits, which could in turn lead to a number of other use cases for that new awareness and newly unearthed information. With other accessories feeding from the pipe Automatic provides, we could see all kinds of different incarnations of intelligent driving accessories, but first Automatic’s Link needs to reach critical mass.
I’ve always been a fan of factory-modified cars (meaning that all mods are under warranty) – especially when they blow away more expensive, luxury sports cars. I love cars like the Subaru WRX STi and the Nissan GT-R. Naturally, the GT-R is quite a bit pricier, but this new version promises to surpass the performance of million-dollar rides. Are you up for it?
The Nissan GT-R Nismo comes with a tweaked 3.8-liter turbocharged V6 engine that produces 591hp and 481 pound-feet of torque. It will offer a racing suspension, a more rigid body, and improved aerodynamics, allowing it to perform extremely well in most conditions. Its Recaro racing seats come decked out in carbon fiber, and you’ll find Alcantara leather all over the place.
For now, prices haven’t been announced, but rumors say that you’ll pay roughly 50% more than what you’d spend on the standard GT-R. There will be only 200 GT-R Nismos made for the 2015 model year.

Hyundai has unveiled its latest sporty car that will slot into the line of Veloster Turbo cars the company already offers. The new car is aimed at driving enthusiasts and is the Veloster Turbo R-Spec. The car gets a number of special touches to set it apart from the standard Veloster Turbo cars.
The R-Spec gets red exterior touches and is only available with a 6-speed manual transmission. The transmission also comes with a B&M Racing Sport Shifter for improved shifting feel.
The car will use the same 1.6-liter direct-injected turbocharged engine available in other Veloster Turbo models. The car gets special black and red cloth seats with red leatherette bolsters. It also gets revised suspension and steering tuning for a sportier feel.
The R-Spec is also the cheapest Veloster Turbo available starting at $22,110(USD). Hyundai says that the R-Spec will begin production in early December of this year and will hit dealer showrooms in February of 2014.
