Belkin LEGO iPhone 5 Case: Time to Brick Your iPhone

We’ve seen a couple of iPhone and iPod cases that are compatible with LEGO, but this is the first officially-licensed case that I’ve seen. Belkin managed to get the toy maker’s approval and have now released a limited edition of LEGO cases for the iPhone 5.

Pistol iPhone 5 Case Offers Plenty of Bang for Your Buck

I’ve seen some weird iPhone cases over the years, but with the exception of the knucklecase, most of them would be fine going through the security checkpoint at an airport. Not so with this case.

iphone gun case 1

Yes, this ridiculous thing is an iPhone case that approximates a full-size pistol. Just about everything about this thing is impractical. Not only could you not carry it around with you without risk of being constantly harassed (or shot) by law enforcement, but I certainly don’t have any pockets in my pants this thing would fit into.

This is one of those things that I recommend you appreciate (or laugh at) from afar, but if you must have one, it’s about $16(USD) over at DealExtreme.

3D-Printed Wedges Have an iPhone Case on Their Heels

3D printing is changing how people make and build things these days. From printed guns to gowns, the sky’s the limit when it comes to 3D printing. This, you can clearly see, with the shoes that Alan Nguyen of Freedom of Creation has come up with using 3D printing technology.

3D printed designer shoe

The iPhone Mashup Shoe features an overlapping strap with an intricate heel that has its very own iPhone case. You can slip your smartphone snugly into the case so you can carry it with you wherever you’re headed in the most unconventional way possible. Each shoe comes with its own iPhone case, so you can carry up to two phones at a time.

While they look kind of cool, it’s not a very sensible design, since your phone will probably be worse for wear after a short while. But while the wedges won’t be so gentle on your iPhone, at least they’ll be kind to your feet.

The iPhone Mashup Shoe was exhibited last year at Milan Design Week and Maison et Objet Paris.

Nguyen explained: “They actually work. I heard they’re pretty comfortable but I haven’t tried them myself.”

Mophie Juice Pack Plus straps a 2100mAh battery to your iPhone 5

Mophie has been making battery cases for various smartphones for a number of years that extend the runtime between charges. Some of the most popular battery cases that the company offers are designed for Apple’s range of iPhones including the new iPhone 5. Mophie has announced a new battery case for the iPhone 5 that promises to significantly increase the runtime of the device.

jp-plus

The case is called the juice pack plus and promises 120% extra power in a thin case. Not only does the case provide extra runtime the iPhone 5, but it also helps to protect the phone from drops and impacts. Inside the case is a 2100 mAh battery promising 120% additional battery life for the iPhone 5 user.

Mophie also promises that the case itself won’t damage the iPhone 5 thanks to features like anti-scratch guides to buffer the impact of falls and a direct injection sleeve engineered with a special shockproof band. The case is offered in three different colors including a soft touch black case, glossy white, and metallic red. The red case is a collaboration with Product (RED).

The large battery pack inside the case promises up to 10 additional hours of talk time on a 3G network. Users can also get up to 12 additional hours of Wi-Fi use and up to 50 additional hours of audio playback. The battery pack can also provide up to 12 additional hours of video playback. Users can charge the phone and sync the device without removing it from the case.

It features a lightning pass through using the included micro USB cable. Users can also connect their headphones to the iPhone 5 without removing it from the case. A flip switch is integrated to allow users to toggle between charging using the juice pack plus battery or standby for the battery so it’s there when you need it. The case is also fitted with an LED indicator showing how much power is left in the case and the case has one amp charging allowing it to charge quicker than when using a standard .5A system. You can purchase the iPhone 5 juice pack plus right now for $119.95.

GoStacked iPhone Case Has Swappable Add-ons: Machina Ex Machina

There are already many iPhone cases that incorporate an additional battery. But what if the extra battery runs out as well? Or what it you’d rather have extra storage at times instead of extra power? The inventors of the GoStacked think they have the answer. Their iPhone case has interchangeable add-ons, forming case and machine, power xtreme!

gostacked iphone smart case

The first add-on for the GoStacked is the 2000mAh GoBattery. But if that runs out and there’s no outlet in sight, you can swap in the GoSolar solar panel to charge your device.

Finally, there’s the extremely useful GoDrive 64. Sorry, it’s not a 64-bit console, but it is a wireless flash drive with 64GB capacity. It creates its own wireless network; all you need is the GoStacked+ app and you can access what’s in the GoDrive 64. Other iOS devices can access the GoDrive 64 in the same way, even if they don’t have a GoStacked case. It also has a 3600mAh battery to keep your iPhone juiced up while you stream media or review documents from the drive.

A pledge of at least $60 (USD) on Kickstarter qualifies you for a GoStacked case and at least one of the add-ons. The case has two versions – one for the iPhone 4 & 4S and one for the iPhone 5.

Sadly, as of this writing GoStacked’s fundraiser only has 11 days to go but they’re still a long ways off from reaching their desired amount of money. Is it because the case is bulky? If you ask me the trade off is worth it. Heck, the GoDrive64 alone is worth having a thicker phone.

Targus Goes Sleek And Sexy With New Smartphone And Tablet Case Range

Targus Goes Sleek And Sexy With New Smartphone And Tablet Case RangeTargus should be a familiar name for those of you who deal with accessories for your notebooks and tablet devices, and this time around, Targus has clearly placed their weight behind the conglomerate from South Korea known as Samsung, by offering cases for the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S4 as well as the new Galaxy Note 8.

After all, if you have already spent so much on these devices, it makes perfect sense to make sure that they will remain well protected from knocks, scratches, and of course, drops. Granted, these cases might not be hardy enough to withstand drops from a particular height, but at least it does take the brunt of the impact. Known as the Targus Midnight Collection, this range will boast of an understated sexiness with a tone-on-tone color palette and rich textures, delivering timeless elegance to the masses. Pricing depends on the kind of case you choose, and they will not burn a hole in your pocket, either, so what are you waiting for?

V-Moda Metallo Case Throws in Guitar Pick for Musicians on the Go

Gadget cases come in a variety of different shapes and colors, and there are more and more minimal cases that help users make a fashion statement, as well as protecting their fancy phones. Some may even come with some odd accessories, like guitar picks!

v moda metallo iphone case

The slim profile V-Moda Metallo case will protect your precious iPhone 5 from scratches, and it’s machined from a single block of metal. There’s a back plate that needs to be attached with an Allen wrench that’s included in the package. Apparently, when you tighten the case, it makes a sound like loading a gun, and, it’s supposed to make a sound reminiscent of a sword being unsheathed when you remove your phone. Needless to say, I’m all for fancy sounds.

Oh, and there’s also a guitar pick so that musicians will be able to play guitar whenever they want, though it’s not clear if there’s a way to actually stash the pick inside the case, if it’s used in the assembly of the case, or if it’s just a silly item to throw in the package.

The Metallo case costs $101(USD) and is available through V-Moda’s store. There are four colors to choose from.

Mophie Juice Pack for HTC One offers to double your Zoe-time

Mophie may be best known for its Juice packs for the iPhone, but the company has made one of its rare Android detours with a battery case for the HTC One. Shipping now, in black at least, the Mophie Juice Pack for the HTC One squeezes a 2,500 mAh battery – 200 mAh more than the One itself has – into a bow-backed shell for the smartphone, that the company claims can boost runtime by 100-percent.

mophie_juice_htc_one

Given the HTC One’s battery is non-removable, the Mophie promises to answer one of the biggest criticisms potential owners have of the phone (we only wish it added a microSD card reader, too). Like other Juice Packs, the One variant has pass-through USB for charging both phone and case, as well as synchronizing your phone with your computer, and an LED indicator row on the lower back to show the case’s remaining charge.

There’s also a standby-switch which, if flicked on, saves the Mophie’s power until you specifically want it; otherwise, the phone will run on its own battery. You still get access to the camera and – thanks to pass-through keys – the buttons for volume, power, and such. Mophie has even considered the IR blaster HTC built into the power button, which still works even with the Juice Pack in place.

mophie_juice_htc_one_2-2

Of course, the downside of strapping an extra battery to your phone is added bulk, and the Juice Pack does indeed add some heft to the svelte One. Together, they measure in at 2.88 x 6.06 x 0.76 inches, and the Mophie adds 5.05oz, effectively doubling the weight of the phone.

That may be easy to overlook if it means you can keep using your One, however. We found that Zoe photography – HTC’s mixture of burst-stills and short HD video clips – was particularly power-hungry in our review of the phone, and as such keen shutterbugs hoping to get the most out of the phone’s UltraPixel camera may well be the obvious target for Mophie’s new accessory. It’s shipping now in black, priced at $99.95, while the silver version will follow on in mid-May.

Magikarp Swallows Nintendo DS, Sony PSP

If you’re a Pokémon fan, you probably are familiar with the Magikarp – or as is known in many circles, the Magicrap. Despite being arguably the most useless Pokémon, the orange fish is still one of the most popular characters in the series. So what better way to show your allegiance to the splashy Magikarp but to carry around your handheld gaming system inside of one.

magikarp case

Flea Circus Designs‘ interpretation of the Magikarp is definitely a bit more rectangular than we’re used to seeing, but they had to make it that way so it could stand a chance at holding onto a game system. It’s made from fleece and felt, and is big enough to hold onto a Nintendo DS, DS Lite, 3DS or a Sony PSP. It’ll also gobble up most cell phones and small digicams. Magikarp’s mouth is also lined with Velcro to make sure that it doesn’t accidentally spit your gadget out.

Cast your rod and reel in the Magikarp case over on Etsy for $25(USD).
