Behringer to launch OMNI AirPlay System, iNUKE Boom Jr. at CES 2013

Audiophiles take note, because Behringer is set to officially unveil its new OMNI AirPlay sound system during CES 2013 next week. The OMNI AirPlay system, as you might have already guessed, takes advantage of Apple‘s AirPlay technology to bring the task of creating a home sound system into the wireless realm. By connecting the speakers and components in the OMNI system to your wireless router, you’ll be able to stream music over your Internet connection from your iPhone or iTunes.

While that’s cool enough on its own, the OMNI AMP allows you integrate your legacy speakers into your sound system, so you don’t have to worry about ditching your old speakers (which we can’t imagine were all that cheap) just because you’re using a new wireless system. The OMNI AirPlay system also includes the ONMI Link, which is a “stereo receiver for any active amplified system.”

Next up we have the OMNI SP3i and the SP5i, which are both active three-way speaker systems that respectively feature 4-inch and 6-inch subwoofers. Rounding out the collection of equipment in the OMNI system is the OMNI Surface, which is comprised of active three-way, wall-mountable flat panel loudspeakers. That all sounds great, but the real winning feature here is the ability to set up a wireless sound system using both your new and old speakers. That’s sure to come in handy for people who have purchased a lot of audio components throughout the years.

During its time at CES, Behringer will also be introducing the iNUKE Boom Jr. This is obviously a smaller version of the original iNUKE Boom, only with this iteration, Behringer has ditched the dock in favor of Bluetooth, meaning more wireless functionality. It’s also AirPlay compatible, so you’ve got quite a few noteworthy features in the iNUKE Boom Jr.

At the moment, we’re not sure when Behringer will be launching all of this new audio equipment, nor do we have a solid price. Behringer says that it will be offering these “affordable” audio solutions at “projected price points” of $299 and below, though it didn’t part with any specifics. Look like we’ll just have to wait until the official unveiling at CES 2013 to find out more!

LG Optimus G2 rumored for CES 2013

By now, it’s obvious that LG will be unveiling something at CES this year, but as far as what they have up their sleeve is still a mystery. The company released a new YouTube video that teases their upcoming press conference at CES 2013, and they provide a very quick and vague look at their upcoming smartphone, which could possibly be the Optimus G2.

Screen Shot 2013-01-03 at 4.21.47 PM

We’ve already heard about the successor to LG’s Optimus G, rumored to sport a 5.5-inch 1080p display and a new Snapdragon S4 “Prime” quad-core processor clocked at 2.0 – 2.5GHz — somewhere in that range. And from the teasing in the LG video, it’s our guess that the company is planning such a phone for a CES 2013 reveal.

However, the image above is about the best look that you’ll get so far of the rumored device, but it doesn’t really look like much anyway. The 0:17 second mark is where you’ll want to look in the video in case you want to see it for yourself. Then right after that, we see some sort of appliance, which isn’t a huge surprise, since LG will most likely unveil more than just a smartphone at next week’s event.

We’ve heard rumors in the past about a possible 5-inch and 5.5-inch LG superphone in the works. Both of them are said to run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, quad-core processors, 13 MP cameras, and maybe even 3GB of RAM. Of course, CES is only days away, so it’ll only be a matter of time before we see what LG has planned.

[CES 2013] Behringer Makes It Possible To Connect AirPlay With Analog Audio Equipment

[CES 2013] Behringer Makes It Possible To Connect AirPlay With Analog Audio Equipment

Chances are if you put money into your surround sound system at home in the past couple of years, you probably don’t have AirPlay support which means you’re unable to play music, videos and photos from your iOS device directly to your home theater. Changing your home theater setup could cost you a ton of money if you’d like to include AirPlay support, but it could now be a lot less costly with a new device Behringer is introducing at CES this year.

Behringer’s Omni System allows you to make your new and legacy electronic components AirPlay-compatible and includes an Omni Amp, Omni Link adapter, subwoofer and wireless speakers. Once the Omni System is connected to your home wireless network, you can then use it to steam music to and from multiple devices connected to the network.

The Omni System will make its official debut at CES next week and is expected to retail at $299. No word yet on when exactly Behringer’s Omni System will be available to consumers, but we’ll be sure to let you know once we hear its official release date.

Toddy Gear introduces Screensters just in time for CES

We normally don’t put much thought into the microfiber cloths we use to wipe down our device screens, but if you’ve been craving something different to keep your screen smudge-free, then Toddy Gear has a new product that’s right up your alley. Say hello to Screensters, new microfiber dolls that are “inspired by the characters you encounter in everyday life.” These are obviously aimed primarily at kids, but we have a feeling that more than a few adults will get a kick out of them as well.

screenster3-w380

There are 10 Screensters in all, with Toddy Gear specifically mentioning “Stylista” and “Gameawn” in its announcement. The real-life “characters” those two are based on should pretty self-explanatory, and you can catch a glimpse of a couple other Screensters with the images. Each one is small enough to fit in your pocket, and each has two sides that will help keep your screen clean.

On the front is a silky cloth, which is meant for removing fingerprints and smudges from the surface of your smartphone or tablet. Around the back is a plush surface that you can use for removing dust and oils. These Screensters are machine washable and come outfitted with a antimicrobial coating so you don’t have to worry about mold and mildew developing on your cute little doll.

Toddy Gear will be showing these off at CES 2013 next week, while the dolls won’t be launching until March 2013. They’ll be available at Toddy Gear’s website when they do eventually make it to market, along with a select number of unnamed retailers. Each one will set you back $9.99, so they aren’t too terribly expensive, at least when compared to other microfiber cloths. Do you think you’ll pick one of these up?

[CES 2013] YouTube Expanding Send-To-TV Feature To LG, Panasonic, Sony Smart TVs

This past November, Google announced an update to its YouTube Android app that would allow users to stream videos from their mobile device to their Google TV device, adding a new layer of connectivity between your smartphone and TV. Not only that, but it also made it possible for multiple users to add videos to a queue which allows for everyone to get a chance to show off their favorite videos to one another. This feature will soon be rolled out to non-Google TV devices with CES attendees getting a glimpse next week.

At CES next week, Google will be bringing that feature to Smart TV devices manufactured by LG, Panasonic and Sony. Later this year, Google will be extending its the feature to other Smart TVs manufactured by Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba, Vizio and streaming media-boxes by Western Digital and more.

As of now, no official release date for the initial roll out for the Smart TVs made by LG, Panasonic and Sony, but seeing as they’ll be available to check out at next week’s CES, we’re sure an official release it just weeks away. Otherwise, if you have a video game console or Google TV device, then you already have this feature and are probably enjoying it right this minute.

Zeebox picks Gracenote Entourage for its second screen TV chat platform

It was around this time last year that Gracenote’s embryonic automatic content recognition system for TV emerged under the name “Entourage.” Now, it’s been picked up by the increasingly popular second-screen app Zeebox, enabling you to automatically identify whatever it is you’re watching. Even better, it’ll connect you with other users who are also gasping along to the same episode of Pregnant in Heels you are. All the pairing has to do now is dream a better verb for this process before Shazam-ing becomes the legally-uncomfortable term by default

Y-cam is touting the Cube as being a professional grade indoor camera and will have this particular camera available in a variety of resolutions. Of course, as one may have assumed, the higher the resolution the higher the price. Those interested will be able to find the Cube in a VGA (640 x 480), 720p HD or 1080p HD model with prices ranging from $199.99 on the low-end to $349.99 on the high-end. ycam-cube

Y-cam notes that the Cube has a small and sleek design that will allow it to blend into any setting. This camera will allow for recording locally to a microSD card or NAS as well as remote viewing and recording. The Cube also has support for Mac and PC as well as night-vision, motion detection and real-time audio and video streaming. Finally, the Y-cam is expected to be available beginning in February.

Moving over to the HomeMonitor and we have what Y-cam is describing as a plug-and-play secure cloud camera service. Aside from mounting the camera, users will simply need to connect an Ethernet cable or use the Wi-Fi. And once the camera is connected to the web, users will be able to create an account and begin viewing. The HomeMonitor camera will be available in an indoor ($199.99) and outdoor ($349.99) package with both offering the ability to store up to 7-days of footage in the cloud for free. Those looking for additional storage time can also opt to shell out $39.99 (per camera per year) which will up that storage time to 30-days.

Soundmatters Dash7 portable Bluetooth speaker to debut at CES 2013

We’re just a few days away from the start of CES 2013, and we can barely contain or excitement. That’s because this nifty little speaker will be making an appearance on the show floor next week. It’s called the Dash7 from Soundmatters, and it’s a small, portable Bluetooth speaker about the size of a typical smartphone.

soundmatters-dash7

The speaker boasts pristine omnidirectional sound and is also bundled with an angled stand for direct on-axis listening. It weighs just over 7 ounces, and it stands about 0.75-inches tall. Essentially, it’s designed to be nestled below your smartphone or tablet without restricting the view.

Plus, the Dash7 is incredibly slim for a speaker, making it easy to slip inside of a pocket or a laptop bag. Like the Jawbone Jambox, the Dash7 uses some clever tricks to boost its sound, mostly a tweeter/woofer combo and a moving battery for improved bass. It certainly can’t compete with a dedicated home stereo, but it’s designed to improve the sound coming from your smartphone or tablet anyway.

The Dash7 will be rolling out in late January and early February in a handful of colors, including red, white, black, and silver, and if you think this is the right Bluetooth speaker for you, you better come prepared with a fat wallet, since pre-ordering one now will set you back $219, and it comes with a $249 MSRP.

Ycam launches HomeMonitor and Cube cameras to help you monitor babies and burglars from the cloud

The downside of a consumer society is that we need to protect our smartphones with as much vigor as our babies. It’s releasing the HomeMonitor, a secure, cloud-connected camera that lets you stalk / observe your offspring or prized possessions over the internet with a smartphone or tablet. An indoor variant is $200, while a weatherproofed version for scanning the frontiers of your home will set you back $350 and both will drop shortly. At the same time, you can pick up the Cube, a night-vision IP camera designed for professionals that’ll cost you between $200 and $350, depending on the resolution you plump for, when it arrives in February.
