ASUS Transformer Book Duet Announced, Dual Boot Windows 8 + Android[CES 2014] Thanks to the introduction of Windows 8, along with its user interface which looked like it was designed for touchscreens in mind, we have been seeing a lot of hybrid devices as of late, combining features of a tablet and a notebook into a single device, allowing the user to swap between functions as needed. It might not have the grace and light-weightedness of a real tablet, but we suppose it’s a trade-off and if you’re in the market for such a device, ASUS has announced the Transformer Book Duet TD300, a device which ASUS is calling the world’s first quad-mode dual-operating system laptop and convertible.     ASUS Announces PadFone Mini, Powered By Intel[CES 2014] ASUS’ family of PadFone products is not new. In fact back in December 2013 ASUS announced the PadFone Mini which was powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, but come 2014, it looks like ASUS might have a newer variant of the PadFone Mini up for launch as this particular model will be powered by an Intel Atom Z3560 processor clocked at 1.6GHz. However apart from this change in processor type, the rest of the PadFone Mini’s specs and features will remain largely similar to that of the ARM version of the PadFone Mini from last year. (more…)

    Panasonic Announces Five New Full HD Camcorders

    [CES 2014] Panasonic has unveiled its 2014 lineup of high quality camcorders which consists of five models capable of capturing video in full 1080p HD. The flagship model is the Panasonic HC-2850 which features Twin Camera. This camcorder can capture picture-in-picture video through a sub-camera that’s located on the side of the LCD screen, allowing it to capture two scenes at once. There are a lot of possibilities, users can make use of the two cameras to capture a variety of shots simultaneously, such as close-up and landscape in the same direction, front and side shots and even of the person alongwith the object that’s being filmed.

    Four camcorders in the 2014 lineup, models W850, V750, V550, and V250, also include a new Baby Monitor feature through which a sleeping baby in another room can be monitored using a smartphone. The camcorders are capable of sending a notification to the smartphone when the baby’s crying voice is detected. All four models also include built-in Wi-Fi and NFC. The W850 features the world’s first 4-drive lens system in a consumer full HD camcorder which uses a 4-group lens system controlled by individual motors to enable high resolution and high magnification zoom operation in a compact form factor. The entry level HC-V130 camcorder by Panasonic is also capable of taking full HD videos and features a BSI sensor with 38x optical and 75x intelligent zoom.

    Panasonic Life+Screen AX800 4K TV Series Unveiled

    [CES 2014] A handful of 4K TVs have been unveiled at the international Consumer Electronics Show 2014, so its no surprise that Panasonic is here too with its new Life+Screen AX800 4K TV series. 65-inch and 58-inch models will be offered, which according to the company tout “Beyond Smart” features and improved picture quality in a “cutting-edge” design. Studio Master Color provides accurate color reproduction whereas a high-color-space LED backlight achieves wide color gamut that nears the level of a plasma screen. Clarity is enhanced using Local Dimming Pro, which matches backlight control and optimizes brightness level to each area.

    The Panasonic Life+Screen AX800 4K TV series models also include the 4K Fine Remaster Engine which is capable of upscaling content to 4K resolution, it can even upscale webpages for optimum quality. The “Beyond Smart” brings a new user interface which builds on Panasonic’s “My Home Screen” personalization features that were unveiled last year. Navigation is now much more easier and intuitive. The Life+Screen is capable of learning user preferences and automatically recommending content based on it. The TVs also display information such as message notifications, weather forecasts and even a clock using a proximity sensor coupled with facial recognition through the built-in camera in the AX800 series. At this point in time, only the 58-inch model is available for pre-order through Panasonic’s website.

    Panasonic Toughpad 4K Tablet U.S. Availability Announced

    [CES 2014] Panasonic unveiled the first 20-inch 4K tablet last year and today at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2014 in Las Vegas it has announced the U.S. availability of the performance model of said 20-inch 4K tablet, the Panasonic Toughpad 4K UT-MA6. It touts an Intel Core i7-3687U vPro processor under the hood with an NVIDIA Quadro K1000M GPU, apart from a 20-inch IPS Alpha LCD display with a “beyond UHD resolution” at 3,840×2,560 featuring 230 pixels per inch and 15:10 aspect ratio.

    The tablet also touts 16GB RAM and a 256GB solid state drive. Connectivity options include mDP, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3.0, SDXC card slot, smart card reader and gigabit ethernet LAN port. The tablet also has a 5 megapixel rear and 1,280×720 pixel front camera. Panasonic has focused on making the tablet durable, and its capable of resisting 12-inch drops to 26 angles. Only 0.49 inch thick and weighing in at 5.6 pounds, the Toughpad offers 2.5 hours of battery life. Panasonic Toughpad has been optimized for Windows 8.1, customers will have the option for a Windows 7 Professional downgrade. The performance model of this tablet will be available in the U.S. in Sprint 2014 for $6,999, whereas the previously announced Panasonic Toughpad 4K standard edition will be available in February at a list price of $5,999.
