In a revelation that still has us in shock, Sony announced at CES tonight that its new Bravia HDTVs would give consumers direct access to Time Warner Cable video-on-demand. The details are very lacking at the moment but we can’t think of another example of when a cable company has allowed its on demand content to be delivered on a 3rd party device. Of course this doesn’t solve all our problems as the TVs don’t have built in DVRs so that wonderful Time Warner set-top-box will still be tethered to your stunning HDTV, but it is a step in the right direction. Now we just wait to see how well it actually works when it finally actually gets rolled out.

Sony’s in full-on product dump mode at the moment, and that naturally includes a whole new range of point-and-shoot Cyber-shot cameras. The DSC-W510 kicks things off on the low-end with a 4x optical zoom and 12 megapixel sensors for $100, while the DSC-W530, DSC-W560, and DSC-W570 each offer some modest upgrades in megapixels and / or zooms and other specs, and top out at a $180 list price. Joining those are the touchscreen-equipped DSC-T110 that will do 720p video for $230, and the DSC-H70 (also $230) that packs a 25mm wide angle lens with a 10x optical zoom. Surprised? No, not really, but let’s not rain on Sony’s parade, adding a trio of new models to its lineup of simple to use Bloggie cameras. Most notable is the Bloggie 3D, which does 1080p in 3D through two sensors and has a 2.4-inch 3D LCD — glasses-free. Then there’s the Bloggie Duo, with a 2.7-inch LCD on the back and 2.0-inch on the front, nestled beneath the lens. Finally is the “ultra compact” MHS-FS1, which doesn’t have any fancy tricks. It’s just tiny. We just got some quick hands-on time with the Bloggie 3D at the Sony press conference, and while it wasn’t a real working unit, we can confirm that you will soon be able to put 3D in your pocket. LAS VEGAS — Wired magazine’s John Bradley takes a look at the new Extreme Sports goggles from Liquid Image.

These goggles have an HD camera mounted right between the eyes, so you can record 1080p video or high-speed 720p video at 60 frames per second. The videos get stored on a microSD card plugged into the side.

They’d be well suited for shooting the kind of crazy stunts seen in our gallery of gnarly POV videos.

Liquid Image offers versions for snow sports, cycling, scuba, and even swimming. They sell for $400 and will be available in February.

Oh yes, it’s a laptop processor war here at CES with AMD’s new Fusion APUs and Intel’s fresh Sandybridge CPUs gunning for core territory, but Sony’s not pickin’ sides when it comes to its new seriously mobile VAIOs. Kicking it off on the lower end is the 11.6-inch, 3.2-pound VAIO YB Series, which is being refreshed with AMD’s Brazos E350 APU. Sony doesn’t consider the YB to be a netbook — in fact, it doesn’t plan to continue with its netbook line after this quarter — but like most of these other Fusion systems (see: HP dm1 and Acer AO 522) the Y promises long battery life along with really solid graphics. Actually, according to the product manager, the platform has been out performing Intel’s Pentium processors. The system will be available with Windows 7 Home Premium, 320GB or 500GB hard drives, and 4GB of RAM — as you would expect, the $549 base configuration only gets 2GB of RAM and 320GB of storage. The Intel-powered YA Series will still be available with a Core i5 processor option for close to $750. (Note: We got some hands-on time with the YB Series before it was released, check out the hands-on here.) So, what does Sony have in store on the more powerful ultraportable end? The 13.3-inch VAIO S series is a four-pound Core i3-powered ultraportable clad in a durable magnesium casing. It doesn’t seem to be configurable with discrete graphics, but it will have WiDi.
