The year of 3D printers? It’s sure looking like it from where we’re sitting. There are more companies at CES 2013 promoting consumer versions of the technology than ever before. Of course, MakerBot’s not going to sit idly by and watch this all go down. The Brooklyn-based company is set to show off its Replicator 2X Experimental 3D Printer — the dual-extruding “big brother” to its recently released second-gen printer — at a press conference tomorrow. Hopefully pricing and available will be arriving on with it.

Nyko unveils Charge Station U, Pro Commander Wii U peripherals at CES 2013

Nyko unveils Charge Station U, Pro Commander Wii U peripherals at CES 2013

In the past few years, Nyko‘s transformed from a third-party peripheral manufacturer of poor repute to one many gamers depend on for quality products. Devices like the Nintendo Wii Charge Station and the 3DS Power Pak+ went a long way in earning good will, and the latest slew of add-ons continues the company’s recent tradition. Nyko’s Charge Station U ($34.99) bolsters the standard Wii U GamePad charge stand with space for two plain Wii controllers (and includes rechargeable batteries for said Wii controllers), and its Pro Commander ($34.99) takes Nintendo’s Pro Controller and swaps the awkward analog stick placement for a more traditional feel (read: like an Xbox 360 controller).

While the former adds a $15 premium to Nintendo’s first-party charging stand, it also adds the ability to charge your Wii controllers at the same time (as well as giving them rechargeable batteries); the Pro Commander is not only a perfectly capable controller, it also shaves $15 off of Nintendo’s $50 asking price for the first-party Pro Controller. In so many words, if you buy both of these items, you’ll be spending roughly the same amount as if you had bought Nintendo’s first-party equivalents, only you get more functionality. We’ll have our first chance to get hands-on with both devices, as well as the previously announced UBoost, Charge Base Pro, and Power Stand, this week as CES 2013 rages on. You’ll be able to get your hands-on with all five starting this February when they arrive at retailers nationwide.

Audiovox shows off new automotive wireless charging cradle at CES

It’s never fun to fiddle with wires when it’s time to charge your smartphone or other device, but fiddling with wires in a car while driving can be downright dangerous. Having to fight wires can get very annoying, but thankfully there are a number of inductive charging systems on the market that allow you to simply place your device on a charge plate when you need more power. Some of these wireless charging cradles use Qi technology.

Car electronics manufacturer Audiovox has announced a new product category at CES 2013. The company has unveiled its first automotive wireless charging cradle with embedded Qi technology. The automotive charging cradle uses the Qi Multi Litz Coil Array.

That particular coil array is designed to deliver more freedom of positioning for Qi equipped smartphones to maximize the charge speed. The wireless charging cradle has a stylish and rugged design that will be available in four different colors to allow users to choose the color that goes along with the vehicle. The charging cradle features a universal design with locking arms.

Audiovox says that the design will hold most smartphones. The charge cradle also features a design that is optimized for heat dissipation, capacitive sensing to activate charging, and features an LED charge indicator. The charge indicator makes it easier to see when the phone is getting power. The system ships with an automotive 12 V adapter and two mounting options are available. Those two mounting options include a suction cup and a cup holder mount. Audiovox is targeting a price of under $70 plus the selected mounting system with availability set for the summer.

Olympus Stylus SH-50 iHS Point-And-Shoot Camera Announced With 5-Axis Video Stabilization

Olympus Stylus SH50 01 640x426 Olympus Stylus SH 50 iHS Point And Shoot Camera Announced With 5 Axis Video Stabilization
[CES 2013] When it comes to point-and-shoot cameras, the name already implies that these are probably the most basic cameras and will be good enough to get the job done, just don’t expect to be able to have full control over the camera that you would with a DSLR, or maybe a more prosumer camera.

That being said, Olympus could be looking to destroy that notion by announcing the Stylus SH-50, a point-and-shoot camera that not only offers a long zoom (24x 25-600mm equivalent), but at the same time offering up 5-axis video stabilization, a feature which the company is boasting makes it the first point-and-shoot camera to offer that. On top of the 5-axis video stabilization, and it should be worth noting that these features were only previously offered on the Olympus OM-D E-M5 flagship interchangeable lens camera.
