[CES 2014] If there’s one thing that new photographers tend to be confused about is why are lenses considered good for portraits typically of the prime variety that are quite zoomed in? Well one of the reasons is because it allows photographers to frame the face/neck/shoulders of their subject nicely, plus there are some photographers who feel that prime lenses are less complex compared to zoom lenses, which means that they can be cheaper and even sharper than regular zoom lens. Well if you’re after a portrait lens, you might be very interested in Fujifilm’s recently announced FUJINON XF56mmF1.2 R lens, which is an 85mm equivalent lens that Fujifilm is calling perfect for portrait photography.

[CES 2014] Our smartphones and tablets these days are able to snap hundreds, if not thousands of photos, and thanks to internet being widely available these days, sharing photos can be done in an instant to anyone around the world. However there is also the charm of being able to print photos and collecting them in a scrap book or framing them up on the wall, which is where Fujifilm’s INSTAX SHARE S-! printer comes in.
The Fujifilm SHARE is essentially a portable printer that allows smartphone or tablet users to print their photos from their devices even while on the go! As the SHARE printer is able to create its own wireless hotspot, users will be able to pair with the device without the need for cables.

CES 2014 is taking place this week and we’re looking forward to learning about a bunch of new devices that will be debuting at the event. We expect manufacturers to unveil all sorts of cool technological innovations and if the rumors are to be believed, Nikon is expected to make an announcement at CES as well and could very well announce a successor to the Nikon D4 DSLR camera. This rumor comes courtesy of Digicame-info who reports that CES could be the platform that Nikon is taking advantage of to make their announcement. They are also reporting that alongside the D4 successor announcement could be two new lenses as well as a certain D3300.
We have heard rumors that Nikon could be planning a successor for its D4 camera and given that the camera is about 2 years old, we guess it does seem about right that Nikon would be looking to introduce a newer model with upgraded features. The specs of the camera are unknown at the moment, but hopefully we will learn more later this week. There is also a possibility that if Nikon does not make the announcement at CES 2014, they might make an announcement at CP+ which is taking place not too long after CES, but either way check back with us later this week to see if there is any official news to be had.

[CES 2014] Earlier this year, Fujifilm introduced new cameras belonging to their XP-series of rugged devices, which is why it isn’t surprising that come CES 2014, Fujifilm is back with new additions to their XP lineup with the Fujifilm FinePix XP70. The device will join Fujifilm’s XP lineup of durable cameras and will come with a host of protective features, such as the ability to withstand immersion into water of depths up to 33ft, shockproof from drops as high as 5ft, freezeproof to temperatures as cold as 14F, and will also be dustproof which might come in handy if you’re planning on bringing this to the beach or desert.

D-Link DCS-825L WiFi Baby Camera
Posted in: Today's Chili[CES 2014] I’m not sure why, but the “baby monitor” function seems to be getting a boost at CES. I have seen a couple of new twists on this otherwise well-known “need”, but I have to admit that I didn’t see it coming when D-Link told me that they were integrating a temperature sensor in their D-Link DCS-825L WiFi Baby Camera. If you just look at the specifications, this is really the main difference between this product and other home surveillance competitors like Samsung. However, a closer inspection reveals important user-interface details like the Lullabies playback which makes the 825L truly dedicated to baby surveillance and dare I say, communications. (more…)

Fujifilm Launches X100S In Black
Posted in: Today's Chili[CES 2014] These days form is starting to become a priority amongst manufacturers, who might have in the past created productions that focused more on function. Those aren’t necessarily bad traits to have but if you wanted something that looked good and functioned equally well, Fujifilm has recently announced the X100S which will be coming in an all black design, giving the camera a somewhat sleek and elegant look. For those hearing about the Fujifilm X100S for the first time, this is a camera that was released by the company back in 2013 and featured a retro look, which we guess sits well with old school photographers and those who might be fans of vintage-looking gadgets.
