Asus CES 2014 Teaser Hints At Handful Of New Smartphones

We’re just one week away from the International Consumer Electronics Show 2014, which takes place in the first week of January in Las Vegas. It is the biggest show of its kind with a wide variety of exhibitors showing off the latest technology which will be all the rage next year. Some companies have already started teasing the announcements that they are going to make, Asus is one of them. The company has released its second CES 2014 teaser today, this one hints that Asus might announce a handful of new smartphones at the event.

Titled “What’s Your Number,” the setting is Taipei, Taiwan where balls fall from the sky. Each ball has a number printed on it, either four, five or six. This could be a subtle hint that Asus is going to announce smartphones with the aforementioned screen sizes. Apart from this, no further hints have been given, so we’ll have to wait until CES 2014 to find out for sure. Asus released its first CES 2014 teaser last week, which contained subtle hints towards a hybrid device that would perhaps be able to run both Android and Windows. That particular device is expected to be a tablet, but obviously, nothing is confirmed at this point in time.

New LG Pocket Photo Printer Launched

New LG Pocket Photo Printer Launched

LG today launched its new Pocket Photo 2.0 “smart mobile printer,” touted as an excellent travel companion, this nifty little printer can connect through NFC and Bluetooth with Android and iOS mobile devices and let users print custom 5.1 x 7.6cm photos. The new LG Pocket Photo is 4mm thinner than its predecessor but it doesn’t compromise on performance. In fact, the new model offers more prints per charge, 30 to be precise, with each printed picture being rendered at 313 dpi or dots-per-inch. To begin printing, all users have to do is download the free Pocket Photo editing app and connect their smartphone or tablet with it.

The app has been updated as well, it features an expanded range of customization options. There is a new set of filter effects and a clever frame augmentation feature. Users will also be able to embed QR codes into photos printed through the LG Pocket Photo. To print photos, the printer employs ZINK technology, which eliminates the need for ink cartridges, ribbons or toner. The technology uses heat to fire up the necessary color-forming chemistry, which is already imbedded in each sheet of paper. The new LG Pocket Photo Printer will be available in pink, jewel white and lime yellow, it is already available for purchase in China whereas global roll out is scheduled in 2014. The Korean company will be showcasing this gadget at the Consumer Electronics Show 2014 next month.

Samsung Teases Exynos Announcement For CES 2014

Samsung Teases Exynos Announcement For CES 2014A few months ago, Apple announced the iPhone 5s which shocked the world not because of its design or its features, but rather an industry first for smartphones thanks to the A7’s 64-bit chip that made its way into the device. It wasn’t too long after that that companies such as Samsung revealed that they were also working on 64-bit chipsets and it seems that these chipsets could debut as soon as CES 2014. This is thanks to a recent tweet by Samsung on their Exynos Twitter account, where they posted the picture above in which the tagline reads, “Flying even higher in 2014”, suggesting that we could see new Exynos technology at CES 2014.

At this point it remains unknown as to what Samsung might have up their sleeves, but there is a possibility that whatever announcement Samsung plans to make, it could be related to the company’s 64-bit chipset, which seems to be in line with what we have heard. Will the 64-bit Exynos chipset make its way into the Samsung Galaxy S5? The rumors seem to be pointing towards that, along with how it would make sense for Samsung to do so as well, if they want to compete with Apple’s iPhone 5s. In any case Samsung’s Exynos 5 series of octa-core chipsets made their debut back in January of 2013, so it wouldn’t be out of the question for Samsung to announce the next big thing around the same time next year as well.

Meizu MX4G Rumored To Come In Two Variants

Meizu MX4G Rumored To Come In Two VariantsWe have been hearing rumors that Meizu is planning a successor to its Meizu MX3 smartphone in the form of the Meizu MX4G, a device which looks like it will be getting a 2K display of its own and pack a pixel density of over 500ppi. While it seems that 2K displays on smartphones are starting to become the standard of 2014, new rumors have surfaced suggesting that the Meizu MX4G might come in more than one variant, with the high-end model expected to be known as the Meizu MX4 Pro. So what’s the difference in models, you ask?

Well if the rumors are true, there will be two models: an ultra high-end model, and a high-end model. The ultra high-end model is expected to sport the rumored 2K display, while the high-end model will instead use a Full HD 1080p display which has more or less become the standard of smartphone displays in 2013. The high-end model is also rumored to be powered by MediaTek’s octa-core processor, and we can only assume the same will apply to the ultra high-end model as well.

The rumors are also claiming that one of the models will feature a Lytro-like camera system which allows users to shoot photos first and tweak its focus after. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but we have heard the announcement by Meizu on how they plan to enter the US market and will debut their products at CES 2014.

Sony Expected To Release New Smartwatch In Early 2014

Sony Expected To Release New Smartwatch In Early 2014

Sony released its second generation smartwatch earlier this year, and despite the fact that wearable devices were significantly “in” this year, it didn’t exactly turn out to be a hit. It appears that the company isn’t giving on its wearable efforts any time soon. Recent FCC filing hints towards the possibility of Sony releasing another smartwatch early next year. The device mentioned in the filing is called a “BT Wrist Notifier” bearing model number SWR10, no images are included so its not known right now exactly what this gadget looks like.

The FCC has already approved Sony’s mystery SWR10 device, documents reveal that it has NFC and Bluetooth built-in, which will play a vital part in hooking up the smartwatch with a compatible device. Sony’s existing wearable gadget, the SmartWatch 2, was released earlier this year. It touts a waterproof design had a 1.6 inch 220×176 pixel resolution display. It is powered by Sony’s custom Android firmware. The next generation smartwatch from Sony is likely to build on these characteristics, but its obviously too soon to say right now if it will have better success in the market than its predecessor. Rumors suggest that the new smartwatch might be unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show 2014 next month, but Sony itself is yet to confirm the existence of this wearable device.

Could Sony Be Debuting A VR Headset At CES 2014?

Could Sony Be Debuting A VR Headset At CES 2014?When it comes to virtual reality headsets, the most popular name at the moment would be the Oculus Rift, but it looks like Sony could be looking to steal its thunder come CES 2014 with a virtual reality headset of their own. The headset was rumored to make a debut at the Tokyo Game Show 2013, but safe to say it did not materialize, and now if the rumors are to be believed, and if Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida’s tweets are any indication, said headset could debut at CES 2014.

Yoshida’s tweet was a response to IGN executive editor’s Scott Lowe’s tweet where he posted a photo of a virtual reality headset, claiming that it was the best thing to come out of CES 2011, a good two years ago. Yoshida’s tweet while not confirming anything, states that we can expect to see a newly announced product at CES 2014. This has led to speculation that a Sony VR headset could debut at the event, after all why would Yoshida respond to a tweet if said product was unrelated, right?

In any case it’s pretty much up in the air at the moment, but as we will be live at CES 2014, be sure to check back with us then for all the details. We could be looking at a prototype, or we could be looking at a brand new product, but either way exciting times are ahead of us!
