Glyph the Virtual Retinal Display

glyphIt has taken years of development, research and hard work before Avegant arrives at the crossroads where it is today. Having said that, Avegant is more than proud to unveil their beta consumer concept of the Virtual Retinal Display which is given the name Glyph. No, this will not be the latest accessory for your next generation game console that is sitting underneath the Christmas tree, nicely wrapped and all, but rather, the Glyph headset happens to come with a brilliant, vivid video display and premium audio experience, sporting a special flip-down form factor along the way.

If you happen to be headed to CES 2014 in Las Vegas that is happening in a couple of weeks’ time, then you should be able to check out various prototypes of the Glyph Beta that are currently being assembled and tested. Those who want to pick up the Glyph Virtual Retinal Display for yourselves will be able to do so when the Kickstarter campaign begins this coming January 22, 2014 for $499 a pop with shipping all set to commence later next year.

At the heart of Glyph’s innovative nature would be its optical engine that is known as the Virtual Retinal Display. It will rely on a low powered LED, where it boasts of a series of custom optics as well as a micromirror array. The visuals that are subsequently produced by the headset happen to be more crisp and bright compared to those from conventional display technologies. This would mean that your eyes would be treated to the ideal environment when it comes to media consumption, including 3D movies, desktop environments and streamed TV shows. The integrated head tracking capability also paves the way for immersive, responsive gaming which is compatible with all of the latest consoles and games. Bear in mind that the Kickstarter campaign would come with its fair share of ancillary incentives, so you might want to check it out for yourself next year.

T-Mobile Uncarrier 4.0 Announcement Will Be Made At CES 2014

T Mobile Uncarrier 4.0 Announcement Will Be Made At CES 2014

Magenta has started making waves again. A few days back T-Mobile CEO tweeted that the carrier is going to remove another customer “pain point,” he didn’t offer much details except that we should wait for T-Mobile’s uncarrier 4.0 announcement. Invitations have been sent out to the media, T-Mobile is going to make its hyped announcement at the Consumer Electronics Show 2014 in Las Vegas, next month. The media event has been planned for Wednesday, January 8th.

T-Mobile started off with its string of uncarrier announcements earlier this year, the first eliminated traditional two year service contracts on the carrier as well as device subsidies. The carrier also unveiled its Jump! program which lets subscribers upgrade their devices without worrying about eligibility. Only recently T-Mobile announced that it will offer unlimited global data roaming at 2G speeds with no extra cost. As per recent rumors, the uncarrier 4.0 announcement might be related to covering ETF or early termination fees for new subscribers that are switching from other carriers while their contracts are not yet up. Since these subscribers will be charged early termination fees by their carriers, T-Mobile would apparently cover that so these subscribers don’t have to pay a hefty fee just because they want to switch. There’s no confirmation of this as yet, so just wait until January 8th to find out what’s next from T-Mobile.

LG G2 Mini Specs Allegedly Spotted

LG G2 Mini Specs Allegedly Spotted

It has almost become the norm for flagship Android devices to be followed by “mini” variants that are similar in design to their high-end siblings but lack in the performance department due to different and cost effective hardware. The LG G2 smartphone was released earlier this year and it received rave reviews. Over the past couple of weeks rumors have been floating around about a LG G2 mini that’s apparently slated for a CES 2014 release. While LG hasn’t said a word about this variant so far, purported LG G2 mini specifications have been spotted online.

Apparently the LG G2 mini’s specifications were spotted on a GFX benchmark site, which picked up an unknown LG device carrying model number LG-D410, it is believed to be the G2 mini. According to the website, the D-410 has a 1.2Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, a 540x960qHD display and it is likely to come with Android 4.4 KitKat pre-installed. Additional specifications are not available at this point in time, but if the ones that have surfaced are true, then its quite obvious that the G2 mini is not going to be anywhere near the G2 in terms of performance. An announcement is expected at the Consumer Electronics Show 2014 in Las Vegas next month, so we’ll just have to wait until then.

Samsung jumps aboard the curved Ultra HD TV bandwagon

samsung-curved-hdtvSamsung might be from the same country as that of LG, hailing from South Korea, but this does not mean that they are bosom buddies when it comes to sharing customers in the consumer electronics arena. Samsung has laid claim that they have on offer a world’s first, which is also the largest and most curved 105-inch Curved UHD TV ever, and this bad boy will be unveiled over at CES next year. Next year is not too far away actually, especially when you consider that CES 2014 is happening in January next year.

Your eyes will definitely be blown away by what the Samsung 105-inch Curved UHD TV is able to deliver, as it will make use of a new proprietary picture quality algorithm which is capable of offering optimized color and greater feeling of depth. In a nutshell, you will be treated to nearly two times vivid images when viewed from the side, and it comes with 11 million pixels (that’s 5120 X 2160 for you) screen resolution alongside a 21:9 aspect ratio.

Samsung’s 105” Curved UHD TV is touted to be the world’s most curved, it comes with nearly two times vivid images when viewed from the side, offering you the best possible TV viewing experience from any angle. Apart from that, the 105 inch monster will also make use of its ‘Quadmatic Picture Engine’ that will be able to offer up UHD-level picture quality regardless of what kind of source it hails from.

Pricing details and other hardware specifications remain to be seen, but if the past few editions of CES is anything to go by, this could very well lead to the first generation of many curved Ultra HD TVs down the road. Unless Japanese companies like Mitsubishi and Panasonic have nothing like this up their sleeves in January, we do expect to see them jump aboard the bandwagon in CES 2015.
