LG Display plans to melt eyes with Trumotion 480Hz LCD TV

Seriously, there’s only so much picture improving you can do before the law of diminishing returns demands some recognition. While Sony just spent boatloads creating an over-the-top advertisement for its largely unimpressive 240Hz Motionflow technology, LG Display is laughing all the way to Vegas with its Trumotion 480Hz LCD TV. Set to debut at CES 2009, said panel will boast a four-millisecond response time and an unprecedented 480 refresh rate per second. Curiously, we’re not informed of the screen size nor the resolution, so we could theoretically run into a 9-inch 320 x 240 display and be totally underwhelmed. On the real, the outfit is expected to launch the world’s first Trumotion 480Hz LCD TV panel in the second half of next year, but we’re just about to lay down good money that Sony or Samsung accelerates development in order to beat it to the punch. LG Announces 3G-Capable LG-GD910 Watch

Anyone old enough to remember Dick Tracy will appreciate LG’s new cellular watch, a 3G-enabled mobile phone that comes with a 1.4-inch touchscreen, text-to-speech capability, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios, and a music player. It also features built-in video conferencing, which many people don’t use today but could take off with a novel product like this one.

The unfortunately-named LG-GD910 is 0.6-inches thick, water resistant, and works over 3G HSDPA 7.2 data networks. There’s no mobile TV on board—but with voice and video calling, who needs it, really. LG announced the phone on Sunday but will debut it in person at CES next week; stay tuned. (Via eWEEK)

Panasonic set to unveil powerline networking prototypes aplenty at CES

Panasonic already has a few powerline networking products to call its own (including the adapters pictured at right), but it looks like it’s going to be expanding things in a fairly big way at CES next month, with it even set to bring some electric cars into the mix. That latter bit comes in the form of a prototype networking system that promises to let a variety of devices connect to an electric vehicle as it charges in the garage, letting you ensure that everything is set just right for when you drive out the next day. Other devices apparently on tap include an HD-PLC adapter for a security camera, and an electrical monitoring system of some sort. As you might expect, however, details on any of them are pretty light at the moment, but you can be sure that we’ll be digging up what we can as soon as Panasonic officially takes the wraps off ’em.

Creative’s Zii actually a CES-bound processing chip

While our vivid imaginations certainly had something more invigorating than this in mind, we suppose Creative could still surprise us at CES 2009. The curious Zii website we peeked a few days back is reportedly referring to an all new processing chip, and while eipZENter isn’t being too forthcoming with details just yet, we are told that it will likely be “one of the biggest projects Creative has invested in.” If that’s just too vague for your tastes, try this: “[Zii] is completely different from the X-Fi audio chip and it will be used in a variety of upcoming products.” Alrighty then.
