Guy Build Space Shuttle on His Roof

What do you do when you just want to get off of this big blue marble we call Earth? Well, you can call NASA and try to hitch a ride to the International Space Station. Or you could build yourself a replica of the Space Shuttle on your roof. One man in China did the latter.

According to Chinese site Xinhuanet, a 60-something year-old farmer in Guangdong province built this space shuttle replica. Naturally he put it on top of his house. I guess the idea is that if he ever takes off, that house will burn up and erase all traces that he was ever here. Good plan.

This replica makes the house stand out for sure. I wonder if the neighbors love it or hate it. I’m sure it does wonders for his property value.

iPhone Demand In China Waning In Face Of Local Competition

iPhone Demand In China Waning In Face Of Local CompetitionWith all the fuss that Apple made about launching the iPhone in China on the country’s largest carrier, we guess Apple had expected that the phone would do well in a country with so many potential customers.

So far we have heard how China Mobile has managed to sell over 1 million iPhones, although there are also reports that suggests that the iPhone 5c isn’t doing that well. That being said it seems that overall demand for the iPhone in China is apparently disappointing, according to Cantor Fitzgerald analyst, Brian White.

At the moment White is currently in China and has spoke to various parties and found that demand for the iPhone is not as strong as it should be. Instead it seems that customers these days are more excited for local brands like Xiaomi. However there is good news for Apple and that is that many vendors have expressed their enthusiasm for an iPhone with a larger display.

According to the rumors, Apple is pegged to release an iPhone with a larger display this year, which is rumored to be of the 4.7-inch variety (a 5.5-inch model has been rumored as well). “In our view, the iPhone 6 with a larger screen (e.g., 4.7-inch, 5.5-inch) has the potential to meaningfully accelerate Apple’s growth trajectory in China during 2H:14. We have not heard this type of excitement in China around the iPhone in at least two years and thus we believe this could be a very special iPhone launch for Apple.”

Octa-Core HTC Desire 616 Photo Revealed

Octa Core HTC Desire 616 Photo RevealedBack in 2013, there was talks that HTC could be unveiling an octa-core powered handset. Then it was earlier this year that an alleged photo of the handset was revealed. Safe to say that this device was not the recently announced HTC One M8 and according to the folks at PhoneArena who have managed to get their hands on photos, it is the HTC Desire 616.

According to them, the HTC Desire 616 will be a phone destined for the Chinese market and sure enough it will pack an octa-core chipset. Apparently octa-core chipsets are more popular in China, although we’re not sure why (we wonder if this might have to do with the number “8” which is considered auspicious in Chinese culture, versus the number “4”). Undulating through the air, the winning design for China’s pavilion at Expo Milan 2015 resembles a field of wind-swept wheat. The wave-like roof of bamboo panels is both a play on the expo’s theme, "Feeding the Planet – Energy for Life," and a reimagining of China’s traditional shingled roofs.
