China Mobile Still In Talks With Apple For The iPhone

China Mobile Still In Talks With Apple For The iPhone

Speculation about the iPhone launch on China Mobile has been around this entire year, but so far no official announcement has been made yet. Recently there have been a barrage of rumors pointing to an imminent launch, with media outfits like The Wall Street Journal confirming the launch of iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c on China Mobile “around December 18th.” China’s official news agency also pegged the launch on this very day, the day China Mobile switches on its commercial 4G service. However the carrier proved these rumors false today as it made no announcement of an iPhone launch. Instead, it said that talks with Apple are currently underway and both parties have not reached an agreement as yet.

Addressing the press today, China Mobile Chairman Xi Guohua specifically cleared up that the carrier had no announcement to make on the iPhone deal with Apple. This was later confirmed in the day by Ge Qi, a spokesman for China Mobile. So as it stands right now, the iPhone’s won’t be launched for the carrier’s over 750 million subscribers. This launch is going to be a big one for Apple, with analysts expecting an additional $10 billion in yearly revenue coming from China Mobile subscribers alone. Analysts also predict that as many as 12 million iPhones can be sold on the carrier in 2014.

China Mobile Deal Could Allow Apple To Sell An Additional 12 Million iPhones In 2014

China Mobile Deal Could Allow Apple To Sell An Additional 12 Million iPhones In 2014China Mobile currently plays host to over 750 million subscribers in China, easily making them the largest carrier in the country, and potentially the world as well, which is why we’re not surprised that Apple is eager to enter into a deal with them in which it would see more iPhones being sold, but how many iPhones could be sold if the deal were to be a success? Well according to AlphaWise and Morgan Stanley Research, they claim that at the very least, the deal would see Apple sell 12 million units, if not more come 2014.

The 12 million units is thought to be a “base case” scenario, but on a more optimistic note, analyst Katy Huberty thinks that the deal with China Mobile would allow Apple to sell an additional 23 million iPhones next year, just in the Chinese market alone. On a more pessimistic note, Huberty notes that Apple could sell 5 million units. As it stands China Mobile does play host to a number of unlocked iPhones, although a deal with the carrier would undoubtedly entice more customers to come on board with the carrier, while allowing Apple to tap into China Mobile’s massive subscriber base. No word on when the deal could be finalized as last we heard, it was still in negotiation.

Apple Expected To Sell 175 Million iPhones In Fiscal 2014

Apple Expected To Sell 175 Million iPhones In Fiscal 2014

Various analysts have their own predictions about the number of iPhones Apple will be able to sell in fiscal 2014. Previously it was predicted that the company might be able to sell 171 million units in this time period, however according to Canaccord Genuity analyst Michael Walkley, Apple may very well sell 175 million iPhones in fiscal 2014. He also believes that the company may sell 186 million in fiscal 2015. Fiscal 2014 will end next September, so there’s still quite a lot of time for Apple to achieve this figure.

Walkley believes that there are two reasons why Apple is in a position to sell so many iPhones. Recent surveys have revealed that iPhone 5s sales are very strong, a survey called it the top selling smartphone on all major U.S. carriers as well as around the world. Such momentum could mean that the iPhone 5s will continue to bring in customers at a significant pace. Furthermore, Walkley is also of the view that the impending launch of the new iPhones on China Mobile will also help. This would be the first time that the iPhones would be launched on the world’s largest mobile carrier which has more than 700 million subscribers, it is already believed that as many as 20 million units can be sold through China Mobile in the first year alone.

China Mobile iPhone orders start officially this week

One of the bigger keys in Apple’s move into China for iPhone retail sales in China Mobile has signed their final deal: they’ll begin orders this week. There’s little doubt now that Apple will be making big plays for the international market with their iPhone devices, especially now that China sales are ramping up. China […]

China Mobile iPhone Pre-orders Reportedly Going Live This Thursday

China Mobile iPhone Pre orders Reportedly Going Live This Thursday

The excruciating wait for millions of China Mobile subscribers might finally end this Thursday, if the latest report from The Wall Street Journal is to be believed. It spotted an advertisement on the carrier’s website revealing that pre-orders for the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c will be accepted from Thursday, December 12th. Previously, the publication also reported that both China Mobile and Apple had finally signed the iPhone deal, however a spokesperson for the carrier quickly rubbished the report and said that while negotiations were ongoing, no deal had been reached as yet.

Even though a China Mobile spokeswoman declined to comment on the ad that went up on the website, the publication was told by a China Mobile customer representative that pre-orders for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c will indeed begin on December 12th, ahead of the launch of China Mobile’s commercial 4G service on December 18th. The representative is also quoted as saying that the carrier is currently working on a pricing plan for the new iPhones and it hasn’t notified the customers representatives as yet about the price China Mobile intends to charge for Apple’s new smartphones. The ad also indicates that both new iPhones won’t be the only smartphones to support China Mobile’s 4G LTE network, the carrier is also offering TD-LTE compatible smartphones from Samsung and Sony.

China Mobile Kicks Off iPhone Preorders Thursday, 4G Network Booting Up Dec. 18

People queue up to buy the new iPad during its China launch at the Apple store in Shanghai

Last week, it came out that China Mobile and Apple had finally penned a deal to bring the iPhone to China’s largest mobile network, and now the Wall Street Journal reports that iPhone 5s pre-order sales begin this Thursday, with China Mobile’s new 4G services going live on Dec. 18.

The pre-order listing and advertisement for 4G and the iPhone 5s is already live on China Mobile’s official website, and China Mobile confirmed to the WSJ that it will indeed kick off pre-order sales officially starting this Thursday. There will also be an event on Dec. 18 at which the carrier intends to reveal its 4G network to global partners in Guangzhou, which should cover Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tianjian, Shenzen and Nanjing before 2013 is out, with plans to expand coverage further in the new year. This would be the official launch building off of its existing 4G trial distribution.

China Mobile represents a massive potential new customer base for Apple, as it has a ridiculous 759.3 million users on its network. Only 23 percent of those are on 3G, however, according to Forbes, and a smaller percentage will be eager to upgrade to 4G and invest in an iPhone. Still, analyst predictions for how many additional iPhones Apple could sell in 2014 with China Mobile on board seem to begin at 10 million, and extend up to nearly 40 million. Either way, it’s nothing but upside growth for Cupertino, from a client pool that’s increasingly important to its bottom line.

China Mobile has been losing subscribers to its rivals China Unicom and China Telecom since they both offer the iPhone, and have for years, in a scenario that’s similar to what happened in the U.S. when AT&T had iPhone exclusivity for multiple years before it came to other U.S. carriers. Both it and Apple should benefit considerably from this new partnership, and for Apple in particular, this should help stave off critics who say it’s running out of market in general.

China Mobile iPhone pre-orders tipped to start Thursday

Rumors have been swirling for months that Apple and China Mobile are set to kick off a partnership. A partnership between China Mobile and Apple would allow the iPhone to have access to the largest number of mobile users on any network in the world. An ad turned up on the China Mobile website advertising […]

Apple Signs iPhone Deal With China Mobile

Apple Signs iPhone Deal With China Mobile

The much rumored iPhone launch deal with China Mobile has finally been signed. We heard a lot of rumors this year that the world’s largest mobile operator is finally going to start carrying some of the world’s most popular smartphones. Even though its rivals, China Unicom and China Telecom, have offered previous iPhone models in the past, China M0bile starts off with the two latest smartphones from Apple, iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c.

One major hurdle in the way of an iPhone launch on China Mobile was the carrier’s TD-LTE service. Just last week China finally granted 4G licenses to commercial carriers, meaning that the carrier can finally start its commercial 4G service. The country’s official news agency has already confirmed that China Mobile’s 4G service is going to be switched on December 18th. According to the Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, both iPhones are likely to be launched on the carrier around December 18th as well.  Apple has already received the regulatory approval required to run its iPhones on China Mobile’s TD-LTE network. It received the approval back in August. Analysts expect that a decent penetration into the carrier’s over 750 million strong subscriber base could bring in an additional $9-$10 billion in revenue for Apple every single year.

Apple and China Mobile pen iPhone deal after months of rumors, says sources

Rumors and speculation regarding an Apple and China Mobile partnership have been around for a long time, and such would represent a huge move on Apple’s part. Back in September, sources spoke to the Wall Street Journal claiming that Apple would be sending iPhone 5c models to China Mobile, though they couldn’t confirm whether an […]

iPhone Launch On China Mobile Might Add $10 Billion In Yearly Apple Revenue

iPhone Launch On China Mobile Might Add $10 Billion In Yearly Apple Revenue

Over the past few months there has been a lot of speculation about the launch of the new iPhones on China Mobile. The world’s largest mobile carrier, with over 700 million subscribers, has never officially carried the iPhones. Its rivals in the country, China Unicom and China Telecom, have been doing so for quite some time now. Both the carrier and Apple intend to launch iPhones, and according to an analyst, the launch might add $10 billion in additional yearly revenue for Apple, amounting to an increase of $3 earnings per share in Apple’s stock.

Amit Daryanani, an analyst at RBC Capital Markets, bases this prediction on the forecast of 17 million iPhones being sold on China Mobile. Average selling price is expected to be $560 per unit with an operating margin of 30 percent. Out of the roughly 755 million subscribers that China Mobile has, 170 million have subscribed to its 3G service. 17 million iPhones sales would mean that Apple will be able to penetrate into 10 percent of China Mobile’s high-speed data subscriber base. Daryanani predicts that this launch may end up increasing Apple’s market in China by 1.8 times, and as more subscribers get on the high-speed data bandwagon, the more growth in customers will be witnessed. China today issued commercial 4G licenses to carriers, including China Mobile, which means that its service can finally go live on December 18th as predicted.
