Zoho Docs for desktop syncs files on your PC with the cloud, brings offline editing

DNP Zoho docs for desktop

You’ve likely been taking advantage of Zoho’s mobile apps and the service’s Google Drive integration if you use its office suite. Well, now the company has also released a Zoho Docs for desktop client that syncs files saved on its cloud with a Mac, Windows or Linux computer. It also works in reverse, so files saved on your PC will sync with the cloud — even documents edited offline, now that the feature’s been added, will sync once you connect to the internet. While you can cherry-pick folders to synchronize, it’s also possible to set up the client to update all your Zoho documents in all connected devices simultaneously. That includes workspaces you share with teammates, which instantly reflect the changes anyone in the group makes. We’re sure faithful Google Drive users won’t even bat an eyelash at this update, but those who still use Zoho Docs extensively can click the source link to download the client for free.

Box Notes launches with real-time document collaboration in the cloud

Cloud company Box has announced its new Box Notes service, a cloud-based document creation and collaboration tool that allows multiple users to join forces on projects. The service pits itself against certain other competitors, not the least of which is Google Docs, with the service being completely integrated into Box’s platform. On the company’s website, […]

Box Notes Announced

Do you love working on the cloud, and collaborating with other folks on the same document without having to meet up with one another at the office? Well, here is the opportunity for you to do so – thanks to the introduction of Box Notes. Box Notes opens up a new way for one to create documents and work in real-time with others on Box. To know if any of your team mates happen to be on Box Notes at the same time that you are online, all you need to do is check out the Box Note and zoom down the left side of the page. A tiny profile picture would indicate whether your friend is there or not.

Box Notes is all about working with others, and the aforementioned profile pictures have been nicknamed ”note heads.” Whenever you are working on a note with different people, the presence of profile pictures at the place the respective person is working on the document itself makes it easier to keep track on who is working on what, instead of saying stuff like “look at the third paragraph, line number four.” Security-wise, you need not worry too much about Box Notes, since it is built on top of Box. Those who are interested can sign up to make a request to the private beta. [Press Release]

Box Notes takes on Google Docs with collaborative editing, available in beta now (video)

Box Notes takes on Google Docs with collaborative editing, available in beta now (video)

Box users who have been using other services to compose notes and collaborate on documents can now do so from inside the app, thanks to a Box Notes. The Google Docs-esque feature set allows for real-time, collaborative document editing, with the ability to embed images and video clips. Through a simple (even sparse) UI, team members can edit a file simultaneously while adding notes to specific items, as well as comments via a side pane (similar to Word and Docs). Additionally, Box says these new features will make their way to mobile devices. Unfortunately, though, The Next Web reports that Box Notes won’t see a full release until sometime in 2014, and there’s no word on pricing yet either. Still, those looking to jump on the beta can sign up via the source link below.

TiVo Network PVR brings DVR to the cloud: goodbye high-end hardware

This week the folks at TiVo Inc. introduced a transition point for the digital video recording universe, that being the movement of TiVo Roamio DVR technologies to a cloud-based system. With this new TiVo Network PVR, users will be able to extend the digital video recording experience they’ve known – or perhaps have not yet […]

TiVo Network PVR puts Roamio recording technology in the cloud

TiVo Network PVR puts Roamio interface in the cloud for TV providers

However good TiVo’s new Roamio DVRs may be, not everyone can justify purchasing them — especially not TV providers that would have to buy in bulk. TiVo could make that experience more accessible with its just-unveiled Network PVR. The service (not yet pictured) puts the Roamio interface in the cloud, letting operators offer similar recording and streaming features though cheaper set-top boxes and mobile devices. Network PVR should also let providers offer perks that aren’t possible with locally-stored shows, such as sharing a recording with friends who missed the big season finale. There’s no estimated launch time frame for Network PVR, although that’s more likely to be dictated by the providers; don’t be surprised if it takes a while for the technology to reach viewers.

Microsoft boosts base SkyDrive Pro storage to 25GB, lets administrators add more

Microsoft boosts base SkyDrive Pro storage to 25GB

Microsoft’s SkyDrive Pro is helpful for cloud-savvy businesses, but its 7GB of storage per person now seems restrictive next to improved offerings from rivals like Box. The company won’t let itself be outdone, however: it just bumped SkyDrive Pro’s base storage to 25GB per user, and administrators can raise that limit to 100GB if they’re willing to pay. There’s some incentives to take advantage of that extra space, too. Microsoft now offers a larger 2GB file cap, automatic versioning for new users and a client view that displays all shared documents. If your employer depends on Microsoft for online collaboration, you should notice the additional storage today.
