Andrew James Miller, a hacker from Pennsylvania, was arrested after trying to sell access to supercomputers located at the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center. His faux pas (aside from, you know, hacking into supercomputers)? The recipient of his hopeful sale was the FBI. Today the hacker has plead guilty. The supercomputers located at the […]

We’re sure you guys are all familiar with the Mac Mini, but what about the Mini Mac? It sounds like a rip off doesn’t it? Well in reality it’s actually a project by the host of RetroMacCast, John Leake, who took a Raspberry Pi computer, a handful of electronic components, and together with a Linux-based Mac emulator, the Mini Mac was born! In fact the whole affair is rather cute and to top it all off, it is an actual working computer, although we’re guessing productivity might be an issue with such a tiny screen, but cute nonetheless. Windows 8.1 Final Build Leaked
Posted in: Today's ChiliAfter quite a few rumors had predicted it recently, Microsoft confirmed today that it is releasing Windows 8.1 to manufacturing. What this means is that the company’s hardware partners can now get their machines ready ahead of the scheduled Windows 8.1 release on October 17th. Though it appears that people won’t have to wait for October now if they’re willing to dive into the world of piracy. The Windows 8.1 final build has reportedly leaked online and is being spreaded through various file sharing websites.
This leaked build contains all of the changes that Microsoft has made after it released the public preview a few months ago. Changes include a new Help + Tips app, Reading View in Internet Explorer 11 as well as built in Skype app. The Windows 8.1 final build that has leaked online is reportedly a localized Chinese version, it is said that English variants are being prepared as well. The official Windows 8.1 release won’t take place before October 17th. It goes without saying that one should exercise caution when downloading files from online sharing sites. Installing this leaked build is not recommended, because its not an official release, and there always is the possibility that it might be corrupted or tampered with.

Kickstarter Heads To Australia
Posted in: Today's ChiliCrowdfunding site Kickstarter, traditionally the domain of North America, looks set to expand their horizons a long way away from home – that is, they have now added a new subdomain labelled Australia, which would mean that the crowdfunding platform will eventually be opened to Australia and New Zealand. As to the exact date, that remains to be seen, although sometime “in the very near future” is something that everyone loves to hear. There will be a couple of events that will be hosted sometime early next month, and these events will be carried out with the intention of educating potential creators as well as interested backers in how Kickstarter works.
It is encouraging to see ideas such as Kickstarter begin small and growing to a global scale, and what started off as a US-only scheme eventually extended across the Atlantic to the UK, and from September onwards, it will also be available in Canada. Previously, Australian creators were required to own a bank account in one of these territories in order to make use of the service, but I guess with Kickstarter all set to launch Down Under, one no longer needs to go through such a hassle. Do you think that there should be a Kickstarter Asia?

What is the most common perceived complaint from users when it comes to the Windows 8 operating system from Microsoft? Chances are pretty high that the missing Start button with its menu that users have been so used to all these years would be top on the list. The missing classic Start menu has made life difficult for those who have made the jump to Windows 8, and developers themselves have realized that they could help consumers lead a better “computing life” so to speak, by recreating the missing Start menu’s functionality. While most of these apps are free and available online, it might not be enough to keep users satisfied. This is where PC manufacturers themselves do their part to make the Start menu replacement all the more visible, and Lenovo intends to preload the ‘Sweetlab poki software’ on new Lenovo PCs which happen to ship worldwide.
This makes sense for Lenovo, since they are right now, the largest PC sellers around the globe. This particular move, however, could shock the folks over at Microsoft, since it shows that the manufacturer is far from happy with Windows 8. Hopefully the Sweetlab poki software will not slow down your computer by too much, and it remains to be seen whether users are willing to experience a performance hit in exchange for familiarity. Would you?
