ASUS Transformer Book Duet Might Be Killed Due To Pressure From Google [Rumor]
Posted in: Today's ChiliEarlier this year at CES 2014, ASUS took the wraps off a very interesting hybrid device, and by hybrid we’re not talking about a laptop that doubles as a tablet. By hybrid we mean a laptop that double as a tablet that runs both Android and Windows at the same time. This came in the form of the ASUS Transformer Book Duet and was a pretty interesting device to say the least. Now given that Google and Microsoft are rivals, we can’t say that Google or Microsoft might have been too pleased to have both operating systems offered in the same device, and now according to a report from DigiTimes, it has been suggested that Google could be pressuring ASUS into never launching the device. Updates are always a welcome thing, right? Since most updates tend to do away with bugs and introduce new features, it is understandable why they are, for the most part, welcome. However there are times when an update might be too drastic, thus holding users back from updating, like when iOS 6 was updated to iOS 7, and when Microsoft introduced Windows 8. That being said, a study conducted by ComputerWorld has revealed that in terms of upgrading themselves to the latest version of the operating system, Mac users are apparently four times more likely to do so than Windows users.
According to their findings, “Apple’s convinced 41.6 percent of Mac users who acquired their system since 2001 and still actively use them online to adopt the current edition of the OS,” versus Microsoft’s 11.6%. Of course it should be noted that the latest build of OS X, Mavericks, is a free upgrade over its predecessor, a first for Apple. This might also explain why its adoption rate is higher than its predecessors as well, which were paid upgrades. We expect there might be other factors as well but what do you guys think? Why do you think that is?

When NVIDIA launched the original GeForce Titan, it was a true monster in terms of performance, in gaming terms of course, but even more so as a GPU-compute card since its double-precision (FP64) floating point performance crushed anything the Gaming GeForce had to offer. The concept of wireless charging can be applied to bigger devices as well, including laptops and even some appliances, but for now this technology has largely remained limited to smartphones. The Alliance for Wireless Power today announced that Dell has come onboard as a member, and will take part in their initiative to bring wireless charging to larger products. As previously mentioned, its not impossible to bring wireless charging to laptops, and Dell appears to be really interested in actually implementing the technology in its laptops somewhere down the line.

The folks over at Google do seem to be on a constant quest to innovate and change things for the better, and it looks as though they are now working on a new Wi-Fi app which could make life easier when one wants to access wireless hotspots. Apparently, Google has already come up with Android and iOS versions of an app which is smart enough to authenticate and connect to its free hotspots automatically within a Starbucks store, or just about anywhere that they happen to be available. This particular Android app is currently undergoing trials over at its Mountain View headquarters before we presume it is released to the masses for them to enjoy.

Steve Perlman, the Silicon Valley entrepreneur who was behind OnLive and WebTV, has just made an announcement concerning the latest wireless broadband technology that is known as pCell. This particular technology will open the doors to full-speed wireless broadband to any mobile device, without taking into consideration the number of users who make use of the similar wireless spectrum simultaneously. It might sound impossible on paper, but Artemis Networks has been studying and refining this technology for the longest time already.
