Analyst Makes The Case For An 11.8 Inch MacBook Air

macbook-pro-air-refresh

Over the past few weeks we have covered many rumors about upcoming Apple products, there hasn’t been much talk about a new MacBook Air. Its likely that Apple is going to released a refreshed lineup of its notebooks at some point later this year, but what’s unclear at this point in time is that whether it will also offer an entirely new display size just so the Air lineup can also jump on the retina display bandwagon. Analyst Daniel Matte certainly thinks so, he believes that an 11.8 inch MacBook Air makes perfect sense for Apple.

Apple A8 Chip Suppliers Reportedly Confirmed

    apple--logo

Over the past few months we have heard many rumors of what to expect from Apple in 2014. The company is rumored to release new iPhones, iPads as well as a wearable device this year. Its iOS powered devices might be powered by an A8 chip, and rumor has it that Apple has already started tapping suppliers who will supply the package-over-package system-on-chip, which basically means that the processor and mobile DRAM will be joined together into one single package.

Microsoft Introduces OneDrive As A SkyDrive Rebrand

onedriveThere is nothing quite like a rebranding exercise once in a while to make sure that your product remains fresh in peoples’ memories, not to mention ensuring that it enters into the consciousness of many. Microsoft has just rebranded their cloud storage service to OneDrive, where it was formerly known as SkyDrive. This move came about after the software giant had a dispute with British Sky Broadcasting Group (BSkyB) concerning the SkyDrive moniker. I guess you can call OneDrive the cloud service formerly known as SkyDrive. All right, that was pretty lame.

Google Prepared To Purchase AI Start-Up DeepMind

google_logoWhen you are a company that is flush with cash and is one of the major players in the market in which you’re in, then you can be sure that sometimes, it might be more affordable to actually purchase another company which has the technology you are looking for to assimilate them into your DNA, rather than to go through the trouble and spending the additional time into research and development which might end up being a whole lot more expensive than originally expected. This is what the likes of Google has done in the past, and will continue to do so in the future – with us receiving word that they will be picking up British artificial intelligence start-up DeepMind for approximately $400 million.

The Original Macintosh Gets A Teardown By iFixit

When it comes to finding out how repairable a device is, or how well its internals have been laid out, the folks at iFixit do an incredible job at that and have in the past provided us with tons of teardowns, such as the iPad Air, iPhone 5s, and so on. Now given that the Macintosh has recently celebrated its 30th birthday, the folks at iFixit have partnered up with the Cult of Mac and The Vintage Mac Museum to perform a complete teardown on the original Macintosh. iFixit’s process is similar to their previous teardowns, although we guess this is a 30 year old computer we are looking at which we’re sure will bring back some fond memories to some Mac users.

Of course the way things were done back then, in terms of hardware layout and such, are very different from today, although it is nice to see how things were done back then. Interestingly enough the folks at iFixit have actually given the original Macintosh a score of 7 out of 10 for repairability, which is significantly higher than the current-gen iMac which has gotten a 3 out of 10 for repairability. In any case if you’d like to see the full teardown, hit up iFixit’s website for the details, or check out the humorous video above which is a hark back to the good old days of the 1980s.

Windows 8.1 Update 1 Release Expected On March 11

    windows-8.1-update-1-screenshot-1

There has already been a lot of speculation about the spring Windows 8.1 update. We have also seen leaked screenshots, but so far Microsoft has not confirmed when this particular update is going to be released to end users. Apparently the Windows 8.1 update 1 release falls on a Patch Tuesday, which happens to be March 11th. Do keep in mind though that this release date is a rumor at this point in time, it hasn’t been confirmed by the company. The only thing known for sure right now is that Microsoft releases new updates on Patch Tuesday, that’s actually the whole reason behind the exercise any way.

    MyFive: Favorite Technology Quotes

This article was written on December 22, 2007 by CyberNet.

quotes I’ve always loved quotes, and I have found that often times, they make you stop for a minute to think about what was really said. I tend to enjoy humorous quotes most, but there are a few serious ones out there that are interesting. Today’s “MyFive” is simply a collection of some of my favorite quotes that relate to computers and technology. If you have a favorite, feel free to share…

    1. I think there is a world market for maybe five computers.” –Thomas Watson, chairman of IBM, 1943

To think that there are households out there with more than five computers! It’s amazing to think that the chairman of IBM once thought there wasn’t really going to be a market for computers. Can you imagine a world with only five computers? I can’t.

    2. There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home.” –Ken Olson, president, chairman and founder of Digital Equipment Corp., 1977

The fact that this was fairly recent is amusing, simply because at this point, I can’t think of a reason why you wouldn’t want a computer in your home.

    3. Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.” Rich Cook

      No explanation needed. 🙂

    4. UNIX is basically a simple operating system, but you have to be a genius to understand the simplicity.” Dennis Ritchie

Any of you agree that you have to be a genius to understand the simplicity of UNIX?

    5. The number one benefit of information technology is that it empowers people to do what they want to do. It lets people be creative. It lets people be productive. It lets people learn things they didn’t think they could learn before, and so in a sense it is all about potential.” -Steve Ballmer

I agree 100% with Ballmer here. Technology is amazing and has allowed so many people to learn more than they ever thought was possible. There’s a whole new aspect of creativity that has come about because of it, and it’s really changed the way we learn and what we do.
