Rumor has it that Microsoft is working on a new Windows 8.1 update that is expected to be released in the next couple of months. Apparently called “Update 1,” it is claimed to be a minor update which will primarily focus on improving shared code use between Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1, thus allowing developers to easily build apps that are compatible with both platforms. Screenshots of this unreleased Windows 8.1 Update 1 have leaked online today.

[CES 2014] Mushkin has announced a new addition to what they claim is the world’s fastest USB SSD lineup, that is the Ventura Ultra Series. This will be a continuation from the existing range of 60GB, 120GB, and 240GB models, where Mushkin has just unveiled the Ventura Ultra 480GB USB 3.0 SSD over at CES this year. The 480GB Ventura Ultra USB 3.0 SSD will be able to continue delivering the similar ultra-high performance of its lower capacity brethren, except that you have a whole lot more space to play around with this time around. The LSI SandForce SF-2281 powered USB SSDs will deliver best in class throughput of 455MB/s read speed and 445MB/s write speed, which provides up to 39K 4K random IOPS. Not only that, the Ventura Ultra can also operate in UASP mode, which would enable SSD performance in the USB flash drive form factor.
Apart from that, it will come in an attractive and light-weight aluminum housing, whereby it paves the way for the Ventura Ultra to enjoy outstanding durability and thermal management. How fast time flies, and technology progresses. The original Ventura Ultra was first unveiled at CES last year, where it came with storage capacities of 60GB, 120GB, and 240GB. [Press Release]

[CES 2014] At this year’s CES, we have seen how the folks over at CYBERPOWERPC intend to bring gaming to the next level. First of all, they have already unveiled the Steam OS powered gaming system, and this time around, there is the new Fang Series which is a unique custom design Battle Box. This particular Battle Box happens to be a mobile gaming system which will feature a one-of-a-kind design, and comes across as a full performance gaming rig which allows you to bring it just about anywhere and everywhere. Hmmm, sounds like an extremely souped up Nintendo 3DS? Not really, but I am quite sure that you do get the idea. This particular compact gaming box will feature support for full size graphics cards that will include the AMD R9 series and NVIDIA GTX 700 series.
Apart from that, the Fang Battle Box will also feature support for liquid cooling, perfect for the overclocker or enthusiast who wants to see their CPU being pushed to the maximum levels. What do you think of the CYBERPOWERPC Fang Series, and will it be a new addition to your collection of gaming rigs in your living room or bedroom? I suppose pricing does play a role as well in this matter.

Building a computer isn’t particularly difficult. It does require some research on the right components and to check for compatibility and to see if it will fit inside the case you have, but other than that, it shouldn’t be too difficult to figure out. Unfortunately not everyone has the time or patience to do their homework, which is where Razer’s Project Christine comes in. Project Christine is Razer’s concept gaming PC rig in which they have designed it in such a way that even the most novice of PC builders will be able to swap out components for upgrades without stressing out about it.
As you can see in the image above, Project Christine is essentially a modular PC where each component has been separated and labelled accordingly, such as CPU, GPU, HDD, PSU, and etc. So for those who have little to no experience and want to swap out a component, they’ll just need to remove one part and replace it with a better unit, easy as pie! According to Razer, it seems that the entire setup features an active liquid cooling system and noise cancellation, meaning that for those who are sensitive to noise, such as the whir of fans of hard drives spinning, this should address those problems.
Unfortunately as it stands, Project Christine is only a concept at the moment, however Razer has proven that they are capable to taking concepts and turning them into reality, such as with Project Fiona which resulted in the Razer Edge gaming tablet that debuted at CES last year. What do you guys think of this? Yay or nay?

It’s a concept but it’s a super fun one. Toshiba’s shape-shifting concept 5-in-1 PC somehow manages to be a laptop, a tablet, a convertible tablet, a canvas, and a presentation TV-type device. A few of those five might be redundant (and/or useless), but it’s pretty freaking sweet to see one computer try to be everything you want it to be.

Building your own computer is generally reserved for the hardcore, the devoted, the geeky. But with Razer’s Project Christine, it’s as easy as playing with Legos. Really big, actively mineral cooled Legos. Also it looks like a badass rack of rockets or something, which is cool as shit.
