[CES 2014] Back in 2012, Lenovo unveiled the first Yoga hybrid device which was a mix between a laptop and a tablet that also took advantage of Windows 8’s touch-based user interface. Well if you liked what you saw and wouldn’t mind an updated version of it, you’re in luck because Lenovo has recently announced the new Lenovo 2 hybrid device that will come in two sizes: an 11-inch version and a 13-inch version, and apart from the difference in display resolution and processors, both devices will remain more or less the same under the hood. [CES 2014] Seagate is introducing a new line of external backup hard drives with Seagate Backup Plus Slim, a new series that follows the previous “Backup Plus” drives launched in June 2012. As you have guessed, the new ones are smaller, thanks to the natural size reduction of drives but the more important update in 2014 is the capability to (partially) backup Android and iOS devices in addition to PC and Mac computers. [CES 2014] Now that Lenovo has captured the #1 spot as “computer maker”, and starts to make big inroads in the smartphone and tablet market, the company is going after other areas of the eco-system, namely the personal Network Attached Storage market (NAS). This is not an easy market to serve because of the typical difficulty to setup the device onto the home network and the public Internet, but Lenovo is bringing some features that should help close the gap and make things easier. [CES 2014] When Lenovo showed us the ThinkVision 28 4K2K, it was a surprising move because up until now manufacturers have been pretty timid when it comes to large Android all-in-one computers, but that’s the twist: the ThinkVision 28 Smart 4K is NOT pitched as an Android “all in one”, but rather as a very nice computer monitor (3840×2160) that is also capable of running Android apps. It is assumed that it will be used alongside a computer, and the Android capability is a nice bonus that lets users perform many computing tasks like web browsing, email, gaming and media playback without having to turn their computer on. When using Android, it is a complete instant-on experience.

[CES 2014] Last year Lenovo launched the Flex 14 inch and 15 inch laptops. These are unique machines, capable of “flexible,” meaning that the display can be opened at an angle of 300 degress to enter “stand mode” which basically makes use of the laptop’s keyboard as a stand for the display. We reviewed the Lenovo Flex 14 soon after it was announced and found that it offered nice specs and a decent battery life, giving it an overall product rating of 6/10. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Lenovo has now unveiled the new Flex 14D and 15D laptops. (more…)

[CES 2014] If you find yourself constantly switching between laptop and tablet throughout the day, the new MIIX 2 10 & 11 from Lenovo might help ease that pain a bit. This isn’t the company’s first foray into multi-mode computing. Just last year it unveiled the first MIIX which had a 10.1 IPS display accessible in both tablet and laptop modes. The latest detachables stick to this heritage, they can be attached to a keyboard dock which instantly turns them into a proper laptop that’s good for productivity and entertainment on the go. The new MIIX 2 is available in 10.1 inch and “performance focused” 11.6 inch models. (more…)
