LG Chromebase All-In-One To Hit CES 2014 Running

LG Chromebase All In One To Hit CES 2014 RunningLG Electronics (LG) intends to add another feather to their cap with the first Chromebase all-in-one computer in the market that will run on the Google Chrome operating system, where it is set to be unveiled over at CES 2014 which is happening in just a couple of weeks’ time. The LG Chromebase (Model 22CV241) is said to deliver a user experience that befits the highly efficient Chrome operating system, offering a speedy, simple, secure and affordable computing experience. Your eyes will definitely appreciate the 21.5” widescreen Full HD IPS display that will feature a bunch of extra advanced features, all without looking out of place on your desk.

Normally, we would associate All-in-One ((AIO) computers with Windows machines that look pretty, are functional for the basic stuff such as Web surfing and word processing, but to run on the Chrome operating system? That is just not done, at least until now. The LG Chromebase allows folks to gain access to tens of thousands of web apps in the Chrome Web Store, where many of them would be able to run offline just fine without batting an eyelid. Not only that, it is said to offer robust built-in security that employs many layers of protection so that your personal information remains, well, personal.

An Intel Celeron processor would run underneath the hood, where it will be accompanied by 2GB RAM and a 16GB SSD, sporting HDMI in, a trio of USB 2.0 ports, one USB 3.0 port, a 1.3-megapixel webcam and a LAN jack. [Press Release]

    Dogecoin Is Yet Another Cryptocurrency

Dogecoin Is Yet Another CryptocurrencyIn November this year, Bitcoin’s significant rise in value, soaring past the $1,000 mark, has certainly got plenty of people talking about it, with some hoax sites coming up that caused some Mac users to reformat their machines out of greed and ignorance. Well, being a cryptocurrency itself, it goes without saying that this is one category of items that are all set to be hot in the years to come ahead. Dogecoin could be one of them, although at this point in time, it does seem to line up to be more of a satirical dig at cryptocurrency than anything else, despite being valued at $0.00025 right now.

Cryptocurrencies will continue to be volatile, and the price would correspond with only what ordinary folks are willing to fork out. After all, the number of coins which can be mined are finite, which means it is expected that they will continue to grow in their value. Governments are not making life easy for cryptocurrencies though, as they have posed limitations and bans on financial institutions as well as their involvement with Bitcoin transactions, making the future extremely uncertain. No idea on what will eventually happen to Dogecoins, but there is a cap of 100 billion Dogecoins, which means each Dogecoin would be worth a whole lot less than (the 21 million capped) Bitcoins around.

Google And HP Recall HP Chromebook 11 Chargers

Google And HP Recall HP Chromebook 11 Chargers Recalls are no fun, and they definitely do not do any kind of justice or favors to the particular device in question, either. After all, who would want to purchase goods from a company that rolls out defective items in the future? Well, people do make some mistakes at times, and Google as well as HP happen to be the guilty party this time around with a recall of the HP Chromebook 11 chargers happening because the chargers have been deemed to be fire and burn hazards, running the risk of overheating and melting.

Apart from that, the recall also cites that “consumers should stop using this product unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.”. Approximately 145,000 units of the Chromebook 11 chargers were involved in this particular product recall, where it comes in black with outlet pins and measures 1.75” x 0.75”, accompanied by a half dozen foot long cord, and a micro-USB connector on the end. You will be able to find the model number of the charger as MU15-N1052-A00S which has already been stamped on the face of the battery charger which features the outlet pins. So far, nine reports were filed concerning overheating chargers and melting during use, with a single report of a small burn to a consumer, as well as a solitary report of minor property damage to a pillow because of an overheating charger. Basically any single report is one report too many.

    Facebook Introduces Video Ads

Facebook Introduces Video AdsThe very same pattern happens over and over again – there is a new online service which is the talk of town, and just about everyone and their aunt have signed up for it. Wait for a few more months, and the subscriber base grows to even greater proportions, and talk is rife that the company is preparing to roll out an IPO so that it can expand even more.

Well, after a while, you start to notice that things are not really the same any more in terms of the user interface. An ad starts to pop up here, and there is another ad there, and before you know it, you wish there was a new software which could remove all of the ads shown. Facebook might get on the nerves of some soon, with the introduction of video advertisements that will kick off with a series of ads for the upcoming film, Divergent.

The ads will be played automatically on select news feeds, although it will be a silent ad unless you actually click on them, and sound playback will be activated. As for ads on mobile devices, those will have been downloaded ahead of time whenever said device in question was hooked up to a local Wi-Fi network. Do you think that this change is a positive one, or will it deter folks from posting?

New Lenovo Yoga Devices Possibly On Their Way

New Lenovo Yoga Devices Possibly On Their WayWe did read about how Lenovo has introduced a couple of new smartphones to the masses recently, and here we are with the very real possibility of some more notebook/tablet hybrids, as they happen to fall under the Yoga range. Right now, we do know that Lenovo has put on the market 11.6” and 13.3” models that come in a varying account of processor, memory, and storage configurations. Recently revealed documents over at the FCC do point to additional models that are well on their way.

In the FCC listing that hails from the wireless chip manufacturer Broadcom, it does seem as though they are on the lookout for certification for a new Wi-Fi and Bluetooth card. And it does seem as though Broadcom has decided to test out that particular card with a bunch of devices from Lenovo’s Yoga range. The label drawings happen to be those for Intel Pentium, Core i3, and Core i5 processors, marking the very first time that a possible Yoga tablet to run on a Pentium processor inside. Does this mean that we could very well be looking at a budget model down the road? Some of the label drawings point to a Lenovo Yoga 2 11, which could follow in the footsteps of the recently introduced Yoga 2 Pro that has a 13.3’ display.

Judge Says NSA Program Is Most Likely Unconstitutional

Judge Says NSA Program Is Most Likely UnconstitutionalThe NSA is not exactly a government organization that is in everyone’s good books, and considering how they are able to eavesdrop on your private cellphone conversations is a serious matter. We have gotten wind that a federal judge declared today that the National Security Agency’s collection of telephone records of millions of Americans would most likely be in violation of the U.S. Constitution’s ban on unreasonable search. This particular ruling was filed and accompanied by some rather harsh criticism of the Obama administration’s reasons, making it the first of its kind where the NSA is concerned, and as some would keep their fingers crossed, it will not be the last.

The judge also mentioned, should the NSA’s “metadata” collection of records happen to pass constitutional muster, it is a flimsy excuse to have considering how it has not exactly prevented a terrorist attack in the past. This particular ruling might prove to be the precursor of things to come, and will in all probability, open up the door to the entire spectrum of records collection and storage. Finally, some folks might say that justice is being served in the interest of the people, and who knows? We no longer need to be that paranoid in the future when talking to one another over the phone, via SMS or email.

    Facebook Unveils “Donate Now” Button

Facebook Unveils “Donate Now” ButtonWe did read about how Facebook recently revealed a couple of new “Share” and “Like” buttons to the masses, but here is yet another button for the masses that appeals to your altruistic heart. We are talking about the latest “Donate Now” button which was introduced by the folks over at Facebook, and the whole objective of having this particular button in existence is to make life a whole lot easier for non-profit organizations to take in contributions. I am not sure whether businesses would also implement this particular button on their pages though, but the “Donate Now” button works this way. It will collect credit card numbers as well as other billing information for Facebook which will in turn aid its e-commerce and gaming initiatives.

There will be 19 non-profit launch partners at first which will show off the new “Donate Now” button at the top of their respective Facebook Pages as well as at the bottom of their News Feed posts. Among them include DonorsChoose.org, Boys And Girls Club Of America, World Wildlife Fund, UNICEF, Red Cross, and Kiva. It will require a prolonged testing period before Facebook takes the next step of opening up the feature to other non-profit organizations. [Press Release]

Skype Now Runs On Windows Azure

Skype Now Runs On Windows AzureIt seems that Microsoft is not about to just offer the use of its Windows Azure cloud-based server service exclusively to other companies, but also to have their very own products and services take advantage of it as well. According to Scott Guthrie, Microsoft’s vice president for Windows Azure, he has just confirmed that Skype is now up and operational based on Azure servers. Guthrie mentioned, “Skype, a lot of which is built here in our London developer centre, is also now running on Azure.”

Apart from that, Office 365 authentication as well as security will also pass through Azure servers, not to mention the back end for Xbox Live and the new Xbox One console happen to be heavily dependent on Azure to boot. As for SkyDrive, this consumer cloud data storage service is also right smack in the middle of a transition period to the Azure platform, and as Guthrie stated, “SkyDrive, they are in the process of decommissioning their old servers and moving everything onto Azure. All new storage on SkyDrive now goes to Azure.” However, do bear in mind that it is not every single online service from Microsoft that will be able to perform the leap over to Azure.
