Apple is expected to launch their new Mac Pro computers later this month, although they have not given us a specific release date yet, and given that we’re a little more than halfway through December, we’re sure some customers are starting to get a little worried. Well fret not because thanks to a photo taken in the Apple store in Bromley, UK, it seems that the Mac Pros have started to arrive in stores and are being put on display. The original tweet of the photo has since been taken down, but not before the rest of the world has managed to get their hands on the photo and saved it.
According to the person who tweeted the image, they claim that the Bromley store in the UK has only received 3 units so far, but more are expected later this week. Given the price of the Mac Pro and how it is targeted towards working professionals rather than the average Joe, we doubt the Mac Pro will be flying off the shelves unlike Apple’s other products, such as the iPhone and iPad. The Mac Pro’s imminent launch has been speculated with Apple’s business team reaching out to enterprises and providing quotes, not to mention the listing of a 4K display which would also seem to signify the computer’s upcoming launch.

Amazon German Workers Go On Strike
Posted in: Today's ChiliChristmas is an extremely busy period for retailers, even more so in countries where the tradition of purchasing gifts happens to be in vogue. Well, we have word that over at Amazon Germany, hundreds of workers have gone on strike right at the moment when pre-Christmas sales start to peak. This strike is the result of a dispute over pay which has been going on for the past few months with no resolution in sight, and a strike at this point in time could lead to a potential delay in the delivery of goods for folks who are expecting items under their Christmas tree when December 25th rolls around.
We do know that Germany is no small fry when it comes to Amazon’s international markets, where sales in that part of the world grew by almost 21% in 2012 to $8.7 billion, which happens to be a third of its overseas total. In fact, Amazon has received the bulk of their daily orders in Germany last year on December 16th, and shipments began to peak the day after that. Amazon Germany has 9,000 warehouse staff and 14,000 seasonal workers under their payroll at nine distribution centers, and considering how the strike involved around 640 workers not turning up for the morning shift would not have adversely affected the delivery times down the road. Phew!

UK ISP BT Broadband has taken the step to block all access to porn by default if you happen to be a new customer. This should not be seen as a particularly new move, since from earlier this summer, there were whispered changes that were to be made for Web users in the UK. UK Prime Minister David Cameron has supported the rather extensive campaigning by special interest groups over the last few years, for internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to adult content by default, and if they refuse, a new legislation would force them to do so.
I do not see what is the issue here, as it is not as though users are unable to opt out of such content blocks should they choose to view adult content over the Internet. Basically, for new BT Broadband customers, when they are hooked to the Internet for the first time, they will have to choose whether to leave the block enabled or not, and anyone who does not opt out at that point in time will be able to check out the range of content that they are able to access via a compatible device such as a PC, tablet, smartphone or notebook. Three levels of protection, namely Strict, Moderate and Light make up this porn blocking effort, where each level can be customized accordingly. Every time a change to the settings are made, an email will be sent to the account holder to alert them of the changes made.

Apple Business Team Reportedly Offering Mac Pro Price Quotes, Could Be Released Soon
Posted in: Today's ChiliApple teased their Mac Pro earlier this year at WWDC 2013, with a promise that the computer would be released later this year. In fact a recent sighting of a 4K Sharp display on Apple’s online website seemed to hint that the computer could be on its way, especially given that the new Mac Pro would have no problems support 4K monitors. Either way it would seem that we could be getting closer to a release date as there have been reports that Apple has been approaching businesses and offering them quotes on the Mac Pro and have reportedly become more proactive as of late.
According to the reports, Apple’s business team have been quoting prices of about $9,700 for a maxed-out Mac Pro, while others have been quoted around $4,464 for a build-to-order model which is supposedly slightly cheaper than the retail pricing if it were to be bought by a regular consumer. According to one particular report, the user claims that the Apple business sales team rep told them that the price quote would be available by Monday, the 16th of December, which we’re not sure if it means that it will be available for the public, or if it simply means that the quote will be given to him on the 16th.
Either way we’ll be keeping our eyes and ears peeled for more information regarding the Mac Pro’s release, so be sure to check back with us at a later date for the details.

What happens when you have a whole lot of money and influence? Well, it is a whole lot easier to make things happen, of course, and that seems to be the case with Google. Bloomberg has reported that Google could be looking into designing their very own server chips as part of an effort in order to build a better way for its hardware and software to interact with one another. Does this mean that Intel should watch out for this potential development? I would suppose so, especially when you consider how Google is not any two bit company, and the latter is touted to rely on technology from ARM Holdings Plc.
Right now, Google is said to be the fifth largest customer of Intel, and should Google actually make its move into the world of server chips, it would definitely affect Intel’s bottomline at the end of the day – by up to 4.3%, if you were to take the percentage of Intel’s revenue contributed by the folks over at Google. Having said that, designing their own server chips also makes sense for Google in the long run, when you consider how they have already begun to design their own data centers with servers worldwide. With ARM’s chips being the top dog in the world of smartphones and tablets, it ain’t such a bad idea after all to team up with them. This is still a rumor, though, as Google has yet to step forward to confirm or deny such claims.

Earlier this month, Microsoft‘s operating system lifecycle chart was given an update with little (read: no) fanfare. With the update came two dates, one showing the end of retail sales for Windows 7, and one showing the end of OEM sales for the same aged OS. The revelation sparked grumbles and whatnot, but as it […]
