Glassdoor: Twitter Is Best Tech Company To Work For

Glassdoor: Twitter Is Best Tech Company To Work ForHow many of you wake up every morning from Monday to Friday, being raring to go to work? Some might dread at the very thought of showing up at the office, even more so when your boss checks up on you in the form of a telepresence robot. Well, I don’t think that too many employees over at Twitter have much to complain about, as Glassdoor’s result on the 50 best places to work for has been revealed, with Twitter trumping the likes of Facebook, Google, and Apple when it falls back upon the different metrics such as work satisfaction, salary, and CEO leadership, among others.

To make matters more interesting, this is also the very first year where the social network made its way to the top 50 list. As for the top company on the overall list, Bain & Company was top dog. It does seem as though times are going great for Twitter this year, where their IPO went ahead without any issue last month, while its shares have been performing pretty well. Free food, communal office space and a fantastic view of the city would surely add to the overall brownie points that make Twitter such a joyful place to be at.

    HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1

    HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1

HP launched its new flagship business notebook the HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1. At 15.9 mm, it is the thinnest Ultrabook in the Elite portfolio, according to HP which claims that it is also 16.1 percent thinner and 7.3 percent lighter than the previous generation.

Although the 14-inch device is getting really thin, it still passes the MIL –Standard drop test (30-inch, 24 drops) and the MIL-STD 810G for battery durability. The EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 features the latest generation (4th gen) Intel Core processors with integrated graphics, and comes with a choice of HD or Full HD 1080p 14-inch display. The notebook is geared for business so it comes with the typical enterprise features such as finger print reader, TPM inside, SmartCard and dual authentication. It is now compatible with a new docking station that is the same across all the EliteBook portfolio.

HP ProDesk 600 and 800 Are Tiny Business Desktop PCs

HP ProDesk 600 and 800 Are Tiny Business Desktop PCsAlthough desktop PCs are not really the flavor of the month in terms of “wants” from employees, they remain one of the more cost-efficient compute methods. Since it’s hard to make those desktop PCs “sexy”, it looks like HP is trying to make them as invisible and cost-efficient as possible by introducing an updated ProDesk series. The 600 G1 pictured above is the smallest of them and can be connected to up to 3 displays, comes with SSD storage and more importantly the latest Intel vPro manageability.

For regular consumers, the $489 price tag of the 600 G1 (the 800 costs $669)may not seem to be such a great deal, but keep in mind that in the Enterprise space, it is really the computer management and maintenance that become very expensive over time. The remote management features often save a ton of time to the IT staff, which translate into shorter downtime to the employee using the computer. Also, HP typically promises to provide this exact configuration for a number of years, which allows the IT team to easily replace them with the exact same configuration if needed. This is something that is nearly impossible to do with off the shelf computers. The new ProDesk desktop computers will be available in April 2014, so this is quite an early announcement.

New HP Classmate Notebook PCHP has just announced that it will introduce a new Classmate PC Notebook, which is an “affordable” laptop for schools with a worldwide target audience in mind.  Of course, this computer has low-end specifications to make it affordable enough, but one of the more important aspects of a Classmate PC is that it comes with specific software like the Intel Educational Software suite. Those programs have been designed especially to be deployed in schools, and used by kids and is rather unique in its genre. Windows 8 Threshold Could Bring Back Full Start Menu Experience [Rumor]

Windows 8 Threshold Could Bring Back Full Start Menu Experience [Rumor]

When Microsoft first introduced Windows 8, it thought it could do away with the beloved “Start” button, which apparently they were wrong as Windows customers showed just how much they missed the button through feedback of the software. Windows 8.1 brought back the Start button, but it still doesn’t offer the traditional Windows Start button experience we’ve all become accustomed to. It looks like Windows 8.2 may finally give us the Start button we’ve all been wanting in Windows 8. (more…)

DIY Street View Is Now Available

DIY Street View Is Now AvailableGoogle’s Street View has been around for quite some time already, and it has definitely come in handy for some folks who managed to find their way home after being kidnapped, while others have had the unfortunate experience of discovering how they are being cheated upon by their other half through an image in Street View. Still, the world is a big place, never mind that two thirds of it is covered with water, the remaining 33% is still worth exploring. Why not bring some Street View goodness to the masses thanks to Google’s latest initiative?

There is a new feature available which allows one to come up with their very own Street View experience, all without the need for a Trekker. You will first need to shoot some Photo Spheres of your trail through an Android smartphone or a DSLR camera, before uploading them to Views, which is a special Google Maps segment that was specially designed to handle images of such scale. Once you’re done, just hook them onto a map, and visitors to Google Maps who drop by will now be able to have an idea of your place, from your perspective. This might just accelerate the growth of Street View for sure! [Press Release]
