LG Expected To Launch Its Own Chrome OS Products

LG Expected To Launch Its Own Chrome OS Products

Google’s Chromebooks have certainly been receiving some much needed attention in the past couple of weeks as HP revealed its Chromebook 11 as well as a promotion that the company expects to give away hundreds of Chromebooks. It looks like another company may be joining the Chrome OS bandwagon as LG has filed for trademarks that would possibly bring three new devices to market.

LG filed trademarks for the ChromeOne, ChromeDesk and ChromeStation on October 15, with the three trademarks list the device class of these products as “Laptop computers; Computers; Convertible computers; Tablet computers.” Considering LG and Google have been working together for the Nexus 4 and the upcoming Nexus 5, we’re not completely surprised to hear both companies would be working together yet again to offer Chrome OS computers in the future.

When and if we’ll hear about the ChromeOne, ChromeDesk and ChromeStation is unknown at this point, but we’re sure it won’t be long until we hear something in regards to each computer. Hopefully Google will hold another promotion to give away Chrome OS products as we’d certainly like the chance to win one of the three that LG is expected to release in the near future.

Microsoft Pulls Windows 8.1 RT Update After Bricking Surface RT Tablets

Microsoft released Windows 8.1 late last week, leaving many Windows users rushing to the Windows Store to update their version of Windows as soon as possible. As with all software updates, it looks there’s a minor snag Microsoft didn’t anticipate prior to the Windows 8.1 launch that is reportedly leaving many Surface RT users with bricked devices after they update their tablets.  (more…)

New OS X Mavericks GM Build Released

New OS X Mavericks GM Build ReleasedApple has recently released a Golden Master build of its upcoming operating system, OS X Mavericks, and for those unfamiliar, a Golden Master build is essentially the final version of the beta and it is also the same version that non-beta testers can look forward to once the software has been officially released to the public. In any case it seems that a day before their 22nd of October event, Apple has quietly released an updated version of the Golden Master build of OS X Mavericks with the new build number being 13A603 which is higher compared to the previous release where its build number was 13A598.

While it is unclear as to what sort of changes Apple made, it is speculated that this was not a planned update and that it was probably released to address some bugs that were spotted at the last minute, which we guess we can’t really complain about. For developers looking to get their hands on the latest build, it will not be available via the Mac App Store, but instead developers will need to hit up the Dev Center for the direct download. OS X Mavericks was announced back in the middle of the year during Apple’s WWDC 2013 event, but it is believed that the software will finally see a release, or at least have a release date shared on Apple’s 22nd of October event which will also see the launch of new iPads amongst other things.

Windows RT 8.1 Update Pulled From Windows Store

Windows RT 8.1 Update Pulled From Windows Store
Earlier this week Microsoft finally started rolling out Windows 8.1, its much awaited update. Despite various builds being leaked over the last few months, there was quite a lot of anticipation and hype surrounding Microsoft’s latest Windows software update. Merely two days after making the update available, Microsoft has pulled the Windows RT 8.1 update from the Windows Store. The company says that the removal has taken place due to a “situation” it is currently investigating, though it says little about the aforementioned situation itself.

Microsoft says that it has temporarily removed Windows RT 8.1 for Windows Store because a “limited number of users” were affected by a situation when updating their Windows RT devices to the latest update. Microsoft says that it is working to take care of this situation “as quickly as possible.” It hasn’t provided a timeframe in which we can expect the update to become available again. There were scattered complaints online about it being difficult to update a Windows RT device to Windows RT 8.1. Some users found it difficult to location and get the update process rolling on their devices. As it stands right now, users with a Windows RT device have to make do with their existing software version, hopefully Microsoft will get things back on track soon so that all of them can get on the Windows RT 8.1 bandwagon soon.

Apple Warns Of SSD Failures In MacBook Air

Apple Warns Of SSD Failures In MacBook AirWe did bring you a story about how Apple has already issued a MacBook Air update in order to test for SSD failures, and the company is also offering free replacements to boot for those who are affected. According to Apple, both 64GB and 128GB SSDs happen to fail in MacBook Air notebooks which were sold between June 2012 and June 2013. This would mean if you had picked up a previous generation MacBook Air that runs on the Intel Ivy Bridge processor, then you might be affected, so it would be best to head over to Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) in order to get a free replacement.

Should the firmware update you ran redirected you to this web page, you would do well to skip to the Replacement Process section for the subsequent steps to follow. Assuming your SSD drive is affected, it would be best not to install any operating system updates or new applications, in addition to making a backup of your data on a regular basis until you get your SSD drive replaced. Not exactly the best story to hear at the end of the week, but it just goes to show that there is still some more room for improvement when it comes to SSDs. [Apple Support Page]
