Microsoft IE11 Makes Browsing Easier For The Visually Impaired

Fret not if you happen to be visually impaired – the folks over at Microsoft have thrown in their fair share of improvements to its Internet Explorer 11 web browser which will play nice with the Windows Narrator screen reader feature that came sometime last year when Windows 8 was launched. IE11 will be on the receiving end of its fair share of improvements when it comes to editing web-based emails as well as online documents. In one of them, it will boast of auto-correct for misspelled words in IE, while in another, it will inform the user the exact letter that has been deleted whenever the user verbally issues the command “backspace” in Windows Narrator.

Microsoft also mentioned concerning the formatting of the email or document, “For example, Microsoft Narrator says ‘bold’ and ‘end bold’ to let the user know that a section of text was emphasized with bold styling.” The video that you see above will depict just how the process works, which makes plenty of sense to watch it since a picture is worth a thousand words.

Apart from that, Microsoft also improved support in IE11 whenever visually impaired users want to access Input Method Editors, which comes in handy if one wants to type East Asian languages using an English language keyboard. [Press Release]

Google Looks To Android TV Instead Of Google TV

Google Looks To Android TV Instead Of Google TVThere are moments in one’s life that one would need to learn to reinvent oneself. Case in point, a footballer (and I am referring to soccer players just in case you happen to reside in the US and are reading this) who has gotten on in age, where he would then reinvent himself by playing in deeper positions while pulling strings from his half of the midfield, such as Paul Scholes. Google might have figured out that their Google TV division is not making much headway, which is why there are whispers going around that Google might opt to drop Google TV and settle for a new Android TV brand name instead.

When approached, a spokesperson for Google declined to comment. Assuming that this particular rumor is true, it would mean the end of the road for the Google TV brand which was launched all the way back in 2010, where the Internet search giant did have their fair share of hope to rule the living room space. In order to achieve this, they decided to offer TV as well as set-top manufacturers an Internet operating system that was specially made for large screen TVs. Too bad the first generation of such efforts did not last too long in the market. Will a rebranding to Android TV be able to fix whatever issues that they had in the past? Only time will be able to tell.

Toshiba Q Series Pro PC Internal Solid State Drive Announced

Today, Toshiba has announced its new Q Series Pro PC internal solid state drive or SSD. It increases PC storage performance as SSDs generally consume less power than conventional hard drives, not to mention the fact that read/write times are much faster. This particular SSD by Toshiba is also a good fit for Ultrabooks, given the fact that it is just 7mm thick and has what Toshiba calls a lightweight design.

Customers with laptops that have traditional full-height 9.5mm drive ways need not worry as a mounting spacer is included with the SSD. The Toshiba Q Series Pro PC internal solid state drive also comes with a downloadable, and free, migration tool which lets users easily transfer data from their existing tool to Toshiba’s new SSD. A three year limited warranty is provided for all units, which are available in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB flavors. They’ll cost $159.99, $309.99, and $739.99 respectively. Toshiba’s new SSD will be available from select retailers as well as toshiba.com later this month.

Google Play Store Devices To Expand To Other Countries

Google Play Store Devices To Expand To Other CountriesIt goes without saying that when one mentions the Google Play store, it more or less refers to the virtual place where you will be able to download a plethora of apps for your Android-powered device there. Not only that, Google has ensured that Google Play has ended up a whole lot more than that, as they now also sell other stuff such as music, movies, books, magazines, and of course, devices. Needless to say, the Nexus range of hardware would be the most famous line in Google Play, where other items such as Chromecast are also part of the lineup. The thing is, the device or hardware segment of the Google Play store remained available only to a limited number of countries.

Hence, it is encouraging to see that Google Play is expanded fast these days, where the Google Play store device section was recently rolled out in Italy, and the latest round of rumors do point to Finland, Norway and other countries having the possibility of enjoying a device section in Google Play before 2013 is over. As at press time, the Google Play store is available in countries such as Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Spain, United Kingdom, and the United States.

By doing so, you will be able to perform other tasks such as setting all of your first level bullets to bold, or even to introduce changes to the font of your header.
