The PC shipment numbers have rolled in for the third quarter of the year, tallying up the number of units shipped globally over the last quarter. Not surprisingly given the gradually declining nature of the market, shipment numbers again decreased, but not as much as analysts had expected. The numbers vary a bit depending on […]
Lenovo IdeaTab A10 Manual Leaked
Posted in: Today's ChiliIn this day and age, leaks do happen from time to time, that goes without saying. Lenovo has already leaked out some manuals on its website, where they indicated that there will be a new hybrid Android tablet/laptop that will feature a 10.1” display. The device itself will be known as the Lenovo IdeaTab A10, where it will be a budget friendly model that will see the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system run alongside a quad-core Rockchip RK3188 ARM Cortex-A9 processor. As for the 10.1” display, it can be folded back by 360 degrees, with the added attraction of a front-facing VGA camera.
The hybrid device will also arrive with either 16GB or 32GB of internal memory, in addition to up to 2GB RAM. Accompanying the device would also be a couple of USB 2.0 ports and an HDMI port. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, where we have also come across retail listings of the product that has already been found in Germany to point towards a price of €250 for this particular model. There is no official announcement of the IdeaTab A10 at the moment, so we will just wait for something official in due time. Hopefully, it will be sooner rather than later. Could it be this tablet that we talked about earlier on?

The folks over at Microsoft are as good as their word, as they have paid out the promised $100,000 to a UK security researcher who managed to discover methods to get around the myriad of security defenses that have been built into Windows 8.1 Preview, which is the most recent version of Redmond’s operating system. The recipient of this bounty happens to be a certain James Forshaw, who is also head of vulnerability research at Context Information Security during his day job.
Earlier this year in June, Microsoft introduced a trio of bounty programs which would reward researchers who have managed to successfully discover new techniques that are capable of bypassing built-in OS mitigations and protections, the various defenses that were supposed to stop those bypasses in the first place, as well as discovery of vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer 11 Preview. So far, Microsoft has already paid out up to $28,000 to half a dozen security researchers who managed to report 15 different bugs in the preview release of Internet Explorer 11, and Forshaw was one of them, which means his grand total of money collected from Microsoft now stands at $109,400.
Only after Microsoft has come up with a security fix for this flaw that Forshaw discovered will they detail it, so right now, it is all a very hush hush operation.

Google announced a new Chromebook yesterday, the HP Chromebook 11, which we’re sure will probably help boost the amount of Chromebooks that are used in U.S. schools. If you happen to not be a student, but can’t afford to buy a Chromebook yourself, you could possibly earn it through a new promotion Google has just announced. (more…)

As popular as storing content in the cloud has been over the past couple of years, nothing beats a good ole USB flash drive. USB flash drives allows you to take your content anywhere you go allowing you to share whatever you have stored on it with others, as well as leach off others in an easy and pain-free way. USB flash drives are a dime a dozen, but if you prefer to carry around one flash drive, we think having one inspired by Porsche would be a safe way to go. (more…)

Fujitsu QH77/M Waterproof Tablet
Posted in: Today's ChiliEarlier this morning, we did manage to get a closer look at a couple of Ultrabooks from Japanese manufacturer, Fujitsu, and this time around, here we are with a tablet – the Fujitsu QH77/M. The Fujitsu QH77/M will be a tablet with a twist – where it will arrive with waterproof capability, now how about that? Even more interesting is the fact that the Fujitsu QH77/M tablet will arrive with an extractor fan that will still be able to work when it is underwater.
Measuring 12.5” in size, it will be powered by Intel’s 1.6GHz Core i5-4200U processor which more or less has built up a reputation of its own for requiring a fair degree of cooling to a certain extent most of the time. Needless to say, you can forget about dropping the Fujitsu QH77/M into your bathtub and hope for the extractor fan to move fast enough to propel it under the water’s surface, as the tablet itself is simply too heavy for the extractor fan to generate enough torque so that it will chug along nicely. Even if it could, what would be next? Perhaps the inclusion of a built-in periscope, don’t you think so? Even then, pricing details of the Fujitsu QH77/M remains to be known.

Microsoft is all set to launch their Remote Desktop app with the roll out of Windows Server 2012 R2, where it will be available not only on just Windows, Windows RT and OS X, but also in addition, iOS and Android sometime later in October. This would be the first time that such a popular remote desktop software has been made available to its rival mobile platforms.
Apart from that, a certain Michel Roth, who happens to be one of Microsoft’s Most Valuable Professionals, did claim that the OS X app has also undergone a major overhaul. Apart from that, we also know that the iOS version will offer support for both iOS 6 and 7 versions, while those who are running on the Android mobile operating system from Google will be able to play nice with the Remote Desktop app as long as they have Android Gingerbread running underneath the hood. It remains to be seen just when will Microsoft’s Remote Desktop roll out to the respective app stores, but why not making the same thing available to their very own Windows Phone 8 platform?
Controlling your desktop from your smartphone makes plenty of sense, and it would come in handy especially when you are working overseas, and would love to check out something on your local machine whenever you are out of the country. [Press Release]

Google Shopping Gets Localized
Posted in: Today's ChiliGoogle’s Google Shopping online service has just been updated, as Google has tried to localize the shopping experience for the end user. All you need to do is enter the name of a product, and who knows, you might just be able to check out an ad from a local merchant. The ad itself could be linked to a retailer’s site, allowing you to check out the product before paying a visit to the actual store. When it comes to Google’s commerce blog, they will put up an example on how someone who is browsing through a particular fragrance could discover a link to a local store from where he is able to check out the pricing, availability, see similar items, in addition to obtaining the hours of the brick and mortar store, and make a phone call if required.
Where the product information is concerned, it would include pricing and availability that hails from the Google Merchant Center, which in turn receives the information straight from retailers. These very same retailers will have to pony up for the Product Listing Ads, of course, where it is based on a per click basis. At this point in time, this information will be available to a limited number of retailers. [Press Release]
