Gmail A Tad Slow Today, But Issues Are Being Fixed

Gmail A Tad Slow Today, But Issues Are Being FixedIf you had this feeling that Gmail was not working according to speed despite having upgraded your data line to the fastest one possible in the market, then you are not alone. It seems that Google’s Gmail, the well known online email service has been experiencing issues which has led to delayed emails as well as the failure of downloading attachments. Google claimed that approximately 0.24% of its Gmail user base has been affected by such issues, although an update which was released later in the afternoon claimed that the number of Gmail users who were affected numbered “less than 50 percent”.

It does seem as though things have gotten worse, instead of heading in the other direction. Considering how Gmail themselves have some 425 million users, it is a rather sizeable chunk who would be left wondering what happened to their favorite email service. Well, the Gmail team has been investigate the issue throughout the afternoon, and at 3:00 p.m. ET, they claimed that the service has been restored for some users, with expectations of a full resolution within the hour, although do take that claim with a pinch of salt. Has Gmail’s downtime affected you as well as your organization in a largely negative manner, or is it a mere roadbump in the day?

LinkedIn Has Denied Harvesting User Email Accounts Illegally

LinkedIn Has Denied Harvesting User Email Accounts IllegallyAt the end of last week, we brought you word that customers have already filed a lawsuit against LinkedIn, claiming that the company has hacked their email accounts without prior permission. Well, LinkedIn has already issued a denial over this particular allegation that they have broken into the email accounts of its members without permission beforehand in order to harvest their contacts’ addresses. In the class action complaint by a quartet of users, they charged that the professional networking site had hacked into their external email accounts, and this alleged act also included the downloading of addresses of their contacts for monetary gain, in addition to promoting their services to these contacts on a repeated basis.

The four are Paul Perkins, Pennie Sempell, Ann Brandwein, and Erin Eggers, and the crux of the case will most probably have to do with the alleged hacking of the user’s email account, in addition to downloading of addresses that was performed without “clearly notifying the user or obtaining his or her consent.” LinkedIn, in their defence, claimed that they are above board of such behavior, and claimed that such allegations are false. Blake Lawit, senior director of litigation at LinkedIn, mentioned, “We never send messages or invitations to join LinkedIn on your behalf to anyone unless you have given us permission to do so.” Time to let the law of the land run its due course.

NSA-themed ransomware exploits recent government leaks to scam PC users

FBI-themed ransomware has been around for a long time, scaring non-tech savvy computer users into believing the government agency had identified them as violating various laws, threatening jail time if a “fine” isn’t paid immediately. While many have fallen prey to the scam, never before have users been so vulnerable towards believing the nature of […]

    Google UK Sports Flatter Design

Google UK Sports Flatter Design Earlier today, we did bring you word that Google has unveiled a new logo, revealing a cleaner as well as flatter design so that it will be able to look more uniform across the rest of the offerings. Scouring around various Google sites, the Google UK search page has already been updated with the new logo as well as sporting a brand new apps toolbox. The update does seem to be available only to a very limited number of users, and apparently, it also seems to be accessible on Apple’s OS X operating systems, but not so on Windows or Linux platforms. However, I am running on Windows Vista (yes, you can stifle your laughter) and managed to capture the screenshot that you see above from Google UK’s search page.

What do you think of the flatter design for the new Google logo? It does somewhat resemble Microsoft’s logo which was revealed last year, and the colors do seem to share their fair share of similarity to boot. Change for change’s sake is definitely not good, but to see Google introduce this particularly subtle change can be said to be an encouraging sign. After all, My Yahoo has also just revealed a new logo themselves.

Newest HP Spectre 13 Ultrabook Has Extended Trackpad

Newest HP Spectre 13 Ultrabook Has Extended TrackpadWe’ve been impressed by HP’s Spectre line up for a while, and this new Spectre 13.3” Ultrabook keeps the flame alive and well. At around 3lbs, it is constructed out of aluminum and feels very high quality when you hold it. For reference, I think that it feels sensibly better than my Macbook Air 13, which is probably the other aluminum design that most people know about.
