Lexibook announces Android-powered console

lexibookLexibook has had its fair bit of success with children’s electronics as well as high tech products, and in order to maintain their cutting edge in this particular industry, they have announced the launch of the world’s first Android educational and entertainment living room console which has been specially designed for littles ones aged 3 years and above. The concept behind this Android-powered console is pretty simple – connect, learn, and play! Let us check out what the starter pack in this Lexibook console has to offer for the masses.

This starter pack will come with a light dome with storage compartment for the characters, a single joystick which has been specially designed to work equally well for both right- and left-handers, a pair of characters: Lili the Ladybug, the brand’s visual emblem, and her best friend Enzo, the dauntless zebra, 26 comprehensive educational activities based on learning letters, words, numbers, shapes, and the seasons, as well as an interactive, pedagogically-designed picture dictionary, with over 10 games that were designed to develop children’s dexterity and logical skills, and an interactive book, and pre-loaded videos among others.

Not only that, one will be able to gain access to the LexiBox Market which would open the door to download thousands of free applications, allowing parents to bid farewell to expensive cartridges that are reminiscent of the NES and SNES days. One will be able to access a library of interactive books, including the famous Mr. Men and Little Miss books, not to mention gaining access to a VideoStore that holds a large number of videos for viewing.

The console itself boasts of a 3D welcome interface which will see the two little characters introduced, as they help guide kids through the LexiBox universe. Every single aspect of navigation has been designed to be intuitive, interactive, playful and stimulating. Parents too can rest easy knowing that secure Wi-Fi connection provided by Lexibook Protect will offer control over console usage time s well as its services thanks to the “time management” feature. Pricing details have yet to be determined as at press time though.

EmoSPARK Home Console Has Own AI

Technology has bridged the gap of communications between humans over the years, but this does not mean that there is no longer any more room for improvement. No sir, apparently the folks over at Emoshape are looking to introduce their EmoSPARK A.I. home console elsewhere in the world – across the Atlantic in particular, after having established an online presence with more than 50% of its IndieGoGo campaign investors being based in the US. Hence, it does make good and logical business sense to further expand its operations in the UK, not to mention making the U.S. as the land where its first overseas office would be located.

What Would Classic Game Consoles Cost Today?

Ever wonder how much game consoles would cost you today if you adjusted their prices for inflation? Well, here is a handy chart showing you all of the details. I can’t believe how many of these I have owned. I have spent way too much on video games, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. At least I didn’t spend the money in today’s dollars.

Damn. That NeoGeo would be $1,125(USD) and the Panasonic 3DO $1,095. Surprisingly, the Intellivision is nearly as expensive, at $935, while the Atari 2600 is a pricey $796. The Nintendo systems are still pretty decently priced though. In fact the Gamecube is the cheapest one on this list.

I would be interested in seeing some of the classics that aren’t here though. What about the Atari 5200? That would probably be pretty expensive. In any event, this reminds me to dig some of my old consoles out and play them. Good times.

SteamOS Beta Now Available: All Aboard the Valve Train

If console gamers have the PS4 and Xbox One to be excited about, Valve has given the master race and their incessantly upgraded next, next-gen PC hardware something to tinker with. You can now download the first public beta version of SteamOS, the Linux-based and gaming-centered operating system.

The current version of SteamOS is based on Debian 7 plus the Gnome desktop environment. As Ars Technica notes, this beta build is for the earliest of early adopters. Bugs and glitches aside, “all it is today is a way to run a limited subset of your existing Steam library on an odd version of Steam that requires a dedicated computer.” Another thing to keep in mind is that the beta only supports NVIDIA graphics cards, though the final version will include support for AMD and Intel graphics. Here’s an overview shared by YouTuber Marcelo Salvador. Skip to 3:00 in the video to see SteamOS – or at least Steam in SteamOS – in action:

You can download the SteamOS beta from its official website. Valve also posted installation instructions here, which by the way clearly state that the process will erase all content on the target drive, so you might want to consider installing it on a virtual (Steam) machine for now like Marcelo did.
