Hello Kitty Xbox 360 dazzles while you frag

You may remember deviantART member Ricepuppet from his days dressing up his Xbox 360 in Domo-kun stylings. He’s back, combining our love for console paint jobs with all things Hello Kitty. No matching controller this time, but there’s more than enough stars, shades of pink, and cuteness to make up for it. The Sanrio charmer isn’t the only new mod he’s got, we also spotted consoles adorned with Halo Wars, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Chocobos (of Final Fantasy fame). Now how about we see some of that HK love plastered on a Rock Band drum set?

Sony sells its 50 millionth PlayStation 2 in North America

Joining the all-important 50 million club today is Sony, which has just recently moved its 50 millionth PlayStation 2 game console here in North America. For those with short-term memories, the PS2 hit the scene in the year 2000, well before the iPod, Windows XP and America’s current president took their rightful places. NPD numbers estimate that around 43 million of these 50 million units were sold here in the US of A, and if you’re really looking for some staggering numbers, get a load of this: In November 2008, 206,000 PS2s were moved in America, while just 172,000 more PS3s were sold in the same window. Talk about longevity / sluggish adoption, respectively.

Update: We meant 172,000, not 1,720,000.

Keepin’ it real fake, part CLXXIII: 8-bit Xbox 360 / PS3 consoles only serve to dash dreams

We’ve seen some pretty low tricks when it comes to giving what appears to be a gaming console to a junior, but we’re pleading — nay, insisting — that you don’t ever buy in on either of these in an attempt to pull the wool over a kiddo’s eyes. Straight from a shady warehouse in China comes Rodisson Technologies’ totally ridiculous Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 clones, both of which can only play 8-bit titles. The worst part, however, isn’t the complete lack of effort in knocking these systems off with any level of pride; rather, it’s the 10,000 item minimum order quantity. Thanks, but no thanks.
