Flash CyanogenMod Via SMS With SMS-Romer

Flash CyanogenMod Via SMS With SMS RomerThe world is moving so fast these days, that our smartphones have ended up to be an indispensable part of our lives. After all, it is our smartphones that happen to function as our navigational device in unfamiliar territories, while keeping us entertained as we commute to and from work. Not only that, it also has its fair share of apps to keep us occupied, and for Android users, custom ROMs add another dimension to their user experience. There is a spanking new third party app that makes flashing CyanogenMod on your device easier, known as SMS-Romer.

SMS-Romer would let you perform a flash of CyanogenMod on your device through a simple text message, now how about that? It was specially developed by XDA developer rootfan, where SMS-Romer comes across as a simple app that would allow you to instruct your smartphone remotely to download the most recent CyanogenMod build, before it flashes it automatically.

In order to take advantage of SMS-Romer, your part is simple – just text your device a brief command line, and let the app do the rest of the hard work, as it downloads a CyanogenMod build, reboots your device into recovery mode, before it goes about flashing the said firmware. Don’t you just love how things are automated easily in this day and age?

Purchasing The OnePlus One Will Require An Invite

Purchasing The OnePlus One Will Require An InviteAre you planning on getting your hands on the upcoming CyanogenMod-loaded OnePlus One handset? Well if you are, it seems that the company has recently launched some kind of invite system where you basically will need to be invited in order to be able to purchase the device. Sure the device is pretty hyped given the popularity of CyanogenMod and the fact the phone packs some pretty impressive hardware, but is that it popular to be able to pull off such exclusivity?

Maybe, maybe not, but according to the company’s explanation, this has to do more with demand and supply and it is a good way to ensure that the company has enough phones for everyone, as opposed to running out of stock and disappointing customers. The invites can be had via forums, contests, as well as invites from other OnePlus One buyers, meaning that if you wanted to get your hands on the handset, you’d have to start looking around.

It’s an odd choice since we’re sure limiting pre-orders via a standard online store would be a perfectly sound way to go about it. Companies such as Apple have allowed customers to place pre-orders and it is usually on a first-come-first-serve basis. Apple has allowed shipping times to slip which no doubt frustrate customers, so perhaps this is a scenario that OnePlus One would like to avoid.

The handset is expected to see a launch on the 23rd of April and according to the company, that is when the invites will start going out to customers. If you’d like to learn more about this invite system, you can head on over to the OnePlus One forum for the details. In the meantime what do you guys think of this move?

CyanogenMod Nightlies Adds Business/People Search In Dialer App

CyanogenMod Nightlies Adds Business/People Search In Dialer AppOne of the interesting and handy features of Android 4.4 KitKat is the ability to search for people or businesses in the dialer app. For example if you wanted to call a particular restaurant to make a booking but you don’t have their number, you could try searching for it in the dialer app as opposed to having to fire up your browser and perform a search.

This could potentially cut down the time spent searching for phone numbers and is pretty handy, since a business’s name will also show up in the caller ID, letting you know who is calling. The good news is that if you don’t have Android 4.4 KitKat but would like that feature, the folks at CyanogenMod will be adding that feature into their latest nightlies. (more…)

CyanogenMod 11 For Galaxy S4 GT I9500 ROM Released

Samsung is known for releasing multiple variants of its flagship smartphones, there are often so many that it becomes hard to keep track of all of them. These variants come with slight changes under the hood, so developers have to fashion their ROMs around them. Windows Phone 8.1 Features Leaked By Developer

A developer claiming to have access to the Windows Phone 8.1 SDK or Software Development kit has leaked some of the features of the upcoming major Windows Phone update. Said developer showed up on Reddit to document the features, one that particularly stands out is the support for “Universal Apps.” This is perhaps one subtle hint of the Windows Phone and Windows RT merger that keeps on being rumored, developers will apparently be able to build Windows Store and Windows Phone Store apps using the same shared JavaScript and HTML. What this means in layman terms is that both Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 will be able to run apps that are nearly identical.
