Oppo N1 Is First Google CTS-Certified CyanogenMod Phone

Oppo N1 Is First Google CTS Certified CyanogenMod PhoneOppo’s N1 that will arrive with CyanogenMod 10.2 right out of the box has recently passed Google’s compatibility test suite (CTS), which would more or less mean it will officially be able to support Google’s Play Store – and that translates to Oppo N1 owners being able to install apps of their choice. It is a historical moment actually, as it signifies the very first time that CyanogenMod has been certified by Google for a smartphone device. Having said that, Oppo did share that the smartphone which will run on CyanogenMod 10.2 will be made available this coming December 24th, but it remains to be seen whether it will still arrive with the $599 price tag just like the standard model.

Well, at least you now have something else to look forward to other than the Nexus and Google Play Edition handsets, if you are in the market for a close stock Android experience. It is nice to see that enthusiasts will be able to finally enjoy Google Play the legit way instead of performing a sideloading process. Would you pick up the Oppo N1 with CyanogenMod right out of the box, or would you still prefer an official stock Android experience with your smartphone purchase?

CyanogenMod Case For Nexus 5 Launched

CyanogenMod Case For Nexus 5 LaunchedThe folks over at CyanogenMod do a whole lot more than just rolling out custom operating system ROM versions for the masses, as well as working on a new smartphone that they can call their own. No sir, it seems that something apart from them has hit the market, and we are talking about the CyanogenMod case for the Nexus 5. This particular case was specially built in conjunction with CruzerLite, where it will feature CyanogenMod’s very own “cid” logo on the back, making it a fantastic method for those who support one of the most revered custom ROMs for the Android platform.

This particular CyanogenMod for Nexus 5 case has been specially designed by a CyanogenMod community member, known as Asher Simonds, who also happens to be the one behind the Nexus Experience pattern wallpapers in CyanogenMod. It will cost you $14.90 a pop, where you can choose from the following colors – black, smoke, clear and teal colors. CyanogenMod has not yet mentioned whether this happens to be a one off case, or will it be one that targets other Nexus devices some time down the road. I suppose the eventual popularity of the case would be a pretty good indicator as to whether to pursue this road or not.

CyanogenMod brand stage 2: more new things more often

This week the team at CyanogenMod – a real-deal company now, mind you – have revealed that they’ve attained a second round of major funding from new funders Andreessen Horowitz … Continue reading

Record Android Device’s Screen With Audio Through CyanogenMod Screencast App

Record Android Devices Screen With Audio Through CyanogenMod Screencast App

Recently the folks over at CyanogenMod had announced that they would release a new app soon which will allow users to record the screen of their Android devices, along with audio. The app has finally been released on the Google Play Store through the beta channel. CyanogenMod Screencast app has a simple feature set, the ultimate goal is to make it easier for users to record screens of their devices whenever they want. The feature set is actually better than other similar apps that are already available in the Play Store.

There are some things that need to be done before the CyanogenMod Screencast app can be installed. First, users will have to install the latest CyanogenMod 11 nightly ROMs, then they will need to join the CyanogenMod community as well as the beta program. Only then will they be able to get this app to run. No use of installing this application on an Android device that is not running a CM11 custom ROM, it just won’t work. Once installed, users simply press the power and volume up buttons at the same time to start screen recording with voice. CyanogenMod Screencast app is available as a free download, it has gone live on the Google Play Store.

CyanogenMod To Include Text Encryption Feature

CyanogenMod To Include Text Encryption FeatureIt was recently revealed that not only has the NSA been monitoring cellphones, but it seems that the gaming community has not been spared as well, as reports have claimed the NSA has conducted surveillance on Xbox Live, World of Warcraft, and Second Life communities. Well the good news is that if you’re starting to get a little paranoid and want to protect yourself from being spied on, the folks at Cyanogen Inc. have revealed that starting with the nightly build of CyanogenMod 10.2, SMS and MMS messages sent will be encrypted using the TextSecure protocol.

This will apply to pretty much any Android user, even those who are not using the CyanogenMod ROM. The cryptography will be running in the background and will encrypt text regardless of what text messaging app is being used. Now some of you might be wondering, isn’t the latest build of CyanogenMod at version 11? Well you would be right, but it seems that the team is sort of doing a trial run with 10.2 to ensure that it works smoothly and correctly across the board before they introduce the feature to CyanogenMod 11. We’re not sure how long that will take, but we suppose it’s a start! So, who else is pleased by this piece of news?

CyanogenMod 10.2 Android 4.3 Stable Builds Released

CyanogenMod 10.2 Android 4.3 Stable Builds Released

Recent custom Android ROM related news has generally been focused on Android 4.4 KitKat. Even though quite a lot of outdated devices don’t officially support the latest Android version, through custom ROMs they too can get a taste of KitKat. However, these custom ROMs are not stable right now which means that it might be hard for some users to run them as daily drivers. For those who like to use custom ROMs that are stable, there is good news. The CyanogenMod team today started rolling out stable builds of CM 10.2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean ROMs for a variety of devices.

CM ROMs are some of the most widely used custom Android ROMs out there, the stable builds are almost similar to AOSP builds, meaning that there are no major bugs or issues as often found on custom ROMs. The CyanogenMod team will continue to release stable CM 10.2 Android 4.3 builds for recent devices, so check the device list on the official website to see if the build for your device has been released or not. To flash custom ROM, your device will to have a custom recovery. Its best to get that up and running before trying to flash the custom ROM. Do keep in mind that this procedure comes with its fair share of risks, it would be in your best interest to be sure of what you tinker with.

CyanogenMod Installer pulled from Google Play, lives on via sideloading

The CyanogenMod team made switching from your phone’s original Android setup to its own flavor of the OS much easier with paired mobile and desktop installer apps, but now there’s one extra step. In a blog post, CyanogenMod states the Google Play Support team contacted it and claims the installer app is in violation of their TOS. This, despite CyanogenMod’s insistence that the app’s only purpose is to enable ADB on the device, then guide users through connecting it to the desktop app. Despite “hundreds of thousands” of installs for its alternative Android experience, the mobile app is still usable via sideloading, and its installation guide walks users through the necessary steps. Going forward, the CyanogenMod team is submitting its app to Samsung and Amazon’s alternative app stores, but interested Android users can download it right now.
