Nikon D4S: An Epic Pro DSLR in a Familiar, Jumbo Package

Nikon D4S: An Epic Pro DSLR in a Familiar, Jumbo Package

At the professional level, the ultra-powerful DSLR is still mighty important, and with that in mind, Nikon is upgrading its beastly D4, with the D4s, a faster flagship shooter that’s better than low-light than its older namesake. There’s a lot to love about this camera. Here are the highlights.

Nikon D4 Rumored For CES Announcement

Nikon D4 Rumored For CES AnnouncementCES 2014 is taking place this week and we’re looking forward to learning about a bunch of new devices that will be debuting at the event. We expect manufacturers to unveil all sorts of cool technological innovations and if the rumors are to be believed, Nikon is expected to make an announcement at CES as well and could very well announce a successor to the Nikon D4 DSLR camera. This rumor comes courtesy of Digicame-info who reports that CES could be the platform that Nikon is taking advantage of to make their announcement. They are also reporting that alongside the D4 successor announcement could be two new lenses as well as a certain D3300.

We have heard rumors that Nikon could be planning a successor for its D4 camera and given that the camera is about 2 years old, we guess it does seem about right that Nikon would be looking to introduce a newer model with upgraded features. The specs of the camera are unknown at the moment, but hopefully we will learn more later this week. There is also a possibility that if Nikon does not make the announcement at CES 2014, they might make an announcement at CP+ which is taking place not too long after CES, but either way check back with us later this week to see if there is any official news to be had.

Nikon Df: A DSLR Monster With a Slimmed Down, Old-School Streak

Even at the top echelons of professional photography, the lumbering DSLR is becoming a bore. Smaller shooters with big camera specs are the trend, and with that mandate in mind, Nikon’s releasing the Df. The new DSLR—yes, DSLR, not the full-framed mirrorless monster of rumors—inherits its key guts from Nikon’s flagship D4 in a package that’s just over half the size and weight of that ogre. More than just a relatively compact full-frame camera, the Df looks like a relic from the glory days of film photography—and in a lot of ways, it shoots like one, too.

Usain Bolt autographed Nikon D4 goes up for auction

During the Olympics, athlete Usain Bolt grabbed a photographer’s camera, a Nikon D4 to be specific, and used it to take photos of his surroundings. It was pretty sporting of him and the photographer and it produced some interesting photos that you might not have expected from photographers taking photos during the Olympic games.

That being said, it seems that the Nikon D4 that was used by Bolt is currently up for auction and as you can see in the photo above, the athlete has autographed his name on the camera making this Nikon D4 something of a collector’s edition. It is currently listed on eBay for $6,655 which is not that much more than its retail price of $5,950, but with 6 more days to go before the auction ends, we expect that its price should be going up more. The proceeds of the auction is expected to benefit the Swedish Cancer Society. So, any takers?
