Black Friday Ads for Best Buy, Circuit City, Kmart, and Target

This article was written on November 09, 2007 by CyberNet.

Those of you living in the United States know that Thanksgiving is approaching pretty quickly which means turkey and football! For some, the more important date is the day AFTER Thanksgiving otherwise known as Black Friday (for those of you living outside of the United States, you can read about the experience that Ryan and I had last year to give you an idea of what Black Friday is all about). Tomorrow’s CyberNotes article will be focusing specifically on the biggest shopping day of the year and some of the sites that you can visit to find the ads for all of the stores you’re wanting to visit bright and early on Friday, November 24th. Today we thought we’d use Scribd to embed some of the ads that have already made it to the Internet for Best Buy, Circuit City, Kmart, and Target. Scribd is an awesome service – you can zoom in on the ad, download it as a PDF, and more. If you spot any great deals throughout the ads, let us know!

UPDATE: We’ve created another post with even more Black Friday 2007 ads! Ads for Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, Costco, Kmart, Radio Shack, Sears, Staples, Target, Toys R Us, and Walmart are all available there!

BlackBerry Torch just $99.99 on contract, by way of Amazon’s generous dealings

Amazon’s been known to have some killer deals, and well, here’s another. The new BlackBerry Torch, arguably RIM’s best smartphone to date (for what that’s worth), is just $99.99 on contract. That’s just about half off its usual entry fee with a two-year contract, so if you’re in the market to upgrade your current Bold for something with a little more slide, now’s your chance!

[Thanks, Kramer]

Woot does it Again … 30GB Brown Zune for $80!

This article was written on October 22, 2007 by CyberNet.

Woot Zune

This is deal is for U.S. residents only.

We’ve got yet another deal if you missed out on the 30GB Zunes for $100, and you think that brown is the new black. Woot is slashing the price of the brown Zune media player back to $80 simply because “people don’t like brown Zunes.” Tack on the $5 shipping charge and you’ve got yourself a 30GB media player for a mere $85!

Seeing that this thing can double as a file storage solution (with a small hack) is enough to make anyone think long and hard about picking one of these up. As always with Woot deals you do not know how long it will be before these things sell out, and Woot is trying to comfort people who are contemplating the purchase of an “ugly” brown Zune:

People love bulldogs because they’re so ugly. Bags of defective jellybeans sell just as well as the regular ones. And the most valuable stamp in the world is the one with the airplane printed upside down.

If brown is a bit much Woot is also selling the black and white versions of the Zune on their Yahoo! partner site, but those still have the $100 price tag on them. The Zune 2 release date is set for sometime in November, but the original Zune (the one on sale at Woot today) will be getting many of the same features via a software upgrade.

NewEgg.com currently has a 2GB PNY flash drive for $47.99 and a $10 rebate. This flash drive sells for $108 at Best Buy and $100 at Staples. This is definitely one of the best deals I have ever seen on a 2GB flash drive.

Also, the nice thing about ordering from NewEgg.com is that they have a FREE three day shipping service on this item.

Pre Plus and Pixi Plus free on contract, with free accessories, too

What we really want from HP is a brand new webOS smartphone, but it’d be unfair to say we’d “settle” for a Palm Pre — especially at prices like these. To commemorate the opening of the new HP Wireless store, the company’s offering both Pre Plus and Pixi Plus, on AT&T or Verizon, free of charge for a limited time. Not only that, but these handsets feature free shipping, and the Pre comes with free accessories (including a Bluetooth headset, car charger and leather case) to boot. Meanwhile, Sprint’s still sitting in the corner all alone, expecting folks to slap down cash money (up to $100) for these handsets’ original incarnations. If you’ve been considering these devices already, it seems that now’s the time to choose… but before you sign your life away, why not read our full review?

Vodafone UK details iPhone 4 plans a little early, we keep the screenshots

We don’t know what shenanigans are going on over in Vodafone HQ, but the UK carrier gave the world a quick glimpse of its iPhone 4 pricing today, before promptly removing the data sheets from the ether. Thankfully, a fast-witted reader by the name of Liam Gladdy captured the incriminating data for us, and we can now sit and ruminate on what Voda has in store. As you might surmise from above, the vast majority of users won’t be getting the handset for free, though that doesn’t necessarily preclude the contracts from representing good value. We note with glee that Vodafone keeps its data limit at a robust 1GB, unlike a certain other network, and the £30 ($44) a month two-year contract is looking decent from where we’re sitting. Prices over 18 months just jump by £5 in monthly outlay with handset costs remaining the same. Click past the break for the full breakdown, including details for the 32GB variety.

Students: Get 8 Windows 7 Professional Keys for $19

This article was written on September 15, 2009 by CyberNet.

msdnaa.jpg

Microsoft has always offered pretty good deals on their software for students as a way for them to encourage the use of their products, which the students will hopefully carry over into their jobs. That’s why a lot of universities have MSDN Academic Alliance (MSDNAA) subscriptions for students, and that provides access to hundreds of Microsoft products free of charge. That includes Windows 7.

One of my friends told me about a pretty cool trick if you’re a student that doesn’t already have access to MSDNAA. You can join the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) for a mere $19, and as part of the membership you get access to the full MSDNAA catalog. In that catalog are both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 in English, French, Chinese, and Spanish. Each version and language is accompanied by a unique product key that works with any version and language of Windows 7 Professional (ex. a 32-bit French product key can be used on a 64-bit English install). In all that means you get a total of 8 product keys.

So who qualifies for the student membership? Any high-school or undergraduate student according to their form. The organization does focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields though. For high-school students especially it would be tough to prove which “field” your focus is on since the curriculum is mostly general studies, but they may want to see related classes on your schedule.

I wasn’t able to try out the deal since I’m not a student anymore, but I was curious as to what kind of verification they perform when applying for a membership. I did some searching around and found this post over at Overclock.net where a lot of people have apparently been getting in on the deal. I guess ACM is requesting information from people to prove that you are a student, and that the process can take a week or two before you actually have access to the software. Getting eight Windows 7 Professional license keys for a mere $19 might be worth the hassle though.

If you do decide to give this a whirl let us know what your experience is like.

Sign-up at the Association for Computing Machinery

UPDATE: As several commenters have pointed out… it looks like this is no longer available. If you sign-up now there’s a very good chance you’ll never get access to MSDNAA. So don’t spend the money if that’s your only reasoning.

Microsoft Brings Cheap Office 2007 Back; More Countries Coming Soon

This article was written on August 22, 2008 by CyberNet.

microsoft office-1.jpgNote: This deal is for the United States only, but details regarding other countries is below.

Microsoft has brought back the Office 2007 Ultimate for students at a geekilicous price. When you visit TheUltimateSteal.com students will be able to receive Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate for just $60. That’s a whopping 91% off of the retail cost.

Office Ultimate 2007 comes with Access, Accounting Express, Excel, Groove, InfoPath, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Word. That’s not bad at all considering the “Home and Student” version of Office 2007 costs more than that, and it only includes Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

This particular deal is only for the United States, but Australia, Mexico, and Tawain currently have their own deals going on. Here are some of the other countries who will also be jumping on the “uber-cheap Office 2007″ bandwagon soon:

Starting on September 8th Microsoft will also be offering the Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade for $65 on the United States offer page. That retails for $260, which means you’ll be saving yourself 75% off of the list price. Not to shabby!
