PC Shipments See 4.4% YOY Decline, According To IDC

PC Shipments See 4.4% YOY Decline, According To IDCIs the demand for the PC starting to slip in the face of smartphones, tablets, and Chromebooks as viable alternatives? Well it would seem so because according to a recent report from the IDC, they have reported that worldwide PC shipments totaled 73.4 million units in the first quarter of 2014. This is actually a 4.4% decline year-on-year which does not bode well for PC manufacturer.

Acer and ASUS also made the list at fourth and fifth place respectively but it seems even their combined might does not even reach Lenovo’s numbers. (more…)

Microsoft And Dell Agree To License Each Other’s Patents

Microsoft And Dell Agree To License Each Others PatentsPatents can be used for good and for evil. For evil we’ve seen how some companies have leveraged their patents and use them to sue other companies for huge sums of money over something trivial, or at least for those companies to pay them a settlement. At the same time we’ve seen how disruptive patents can be, like in the case of Apple versus Samsung where the legal battles have been waged for a long time already.

Well thankfully Microsoft does not appear to be too interested in long drawn-out legal fights and has recently come to a patent licensing agreement with computer manufacturer Dell. According to the announcement made by Microsoft, “Through the arrangement, Microsoft and Dell have agreed to license each company’s applicable intellectual property related to Android/Chrome OS devices and Xbox gaming consoles.” (more…)
