Nest 2.0 Digital Thermostat: Thinner, Hotter, Cooler?

Programmable thermostats are proven to reduce the cost of heating in homes but the new Nest 2.0 sure takes it up a notch. The second generation thermostat looks pretty good, and will connect with more heating and cooling systems than the original.

The Nest 2.0 is 20% thinner than the original, and the design has been altered somewhat. The single, solid stainless steel ring surrounds a sleek lens, that shows the digital display of the thermostat. The lens replaces the grille from the first generation. It also comes with an updated thermostat. The new asterisk connector will allow you to use this with a lot more heating and cooling systems. It can even tackle three-stage systems that include heat pumps.

CAMER:ing is a cool digital camera in a ring

In recent times, we have seen a number of really creative ideas on the cameras front. While vendors are pushing the limits of innovation by outing newer cameras, the designers are not less behind by upping the ante even further through their endless creativity.

The chief focus, right now, seems to equip the users with such cameras which are more hassle-free. Babis Cloud Trojan Horse: Is There a Computer Hiding Inside?

I spend so much time in front of a computer that I do see myself sometimes being buried with one. However, keyboards are definitely a nice piece of technology, which can be used in a variety of different ways. German artist Babis Cloud created a Trojan horse that’s completely made up of key caps from old computer keyboards.

hedonIsM(y) trojaner is a somewhat awkward name, but the horse definitely looks awesome. The recycled keys weren’t assembled haphazardly, but arranged to create gradients of ivory-white, in order to replicate the famous horse that’s referred to in Homer’s Odyssey and originally mentioned in Virgil’s Aeneid.

The sculpture is suppsoed to be a commentary on the hedonist susceptibility of contemporary culture, referencing trojan viruses as well. Whatever the reason it was made for, it’s definitely an amazing looking piece of keyboard art.

This Sweating Rooftop Sounds Like a Terrible Idea [Architecture]

A team of researchers at ETH Zurich has developed a rooftop mat made of a five-millimeter-thick polymer that can absorb water when it rains. The material changes properties along with the temperature—the mat becomes hydrophobic as it warms up, and the water is expelled, extracting heat from the building in a process the researchers compare to human sweat. The idea is to cool the interior with less reliance on air conditioning. It’s hard to imagine how this is possibly going to work. More »

Diesel/Monster VEKTR Headphones: They Got the Beat

Sure, I like Diesel, but I never thought I’d see them make headphones. That’s probably one reason why Monster, whose widely-publicized split from Beats, provided the technical know-how to help make these. I’ll give the VEKTR Headphones one thing: they look unique.

These headphones look like they came out of some science-fiction movie. The cans are covered in jagged lines, that give them a sort of asymmetric feel. They remind me of a Lamborghini Aventador or an F117 stealth fighter.

Thusfar, Diesel is vague about the exact technical specs that go into these headphones. One thing I know is that they don’t have active noise-canceling, but are priced like a pair of cans that should. On the other hand, they do offer large, comfortable ear cushions and a microphone and remote for your iPhone, iPod, or Blackberry. I also like the unusual tri-folding headband design.

You’ll have to spend $279.99(USD) in order to get your hands on a pair of VEKTR headphones, though you can score a pair for about $30 less over on Amazon.
