Moku Woodware’s Desktop Chair: Seat Your MacBook or iPad with Style

Stands and charging stations tend to look alike, because they are designed to do similar things, which is why when I see a unique solution to stash my computer or tablet, I’m always interested. The Desktop Chair is definitely a distinctive way of charging up your gear.

Would You Use This as a Table or a Lamp? [Beautiful]

I want this finely crafted object, that much I know. But would I use Goodbye Edison’s Woody W01 as a proper lamp, or would I use it as a table that provides some ambient ground lighting? The agony of having to choose is making my brain hemorrhage. [MocoLoco] More »

eBay straightens out its logo after 17 years

A lot has changed on the internet over the last 17 years, but one of the small constants has been eBay’s decidedly 90s logo, which has remained colorful and off-kilter as others have shifted with the trends. Now, after all these years, it’s finally making a clean break (mostly). The company today took the wraps off a whole new logo, one that retains the old colors but does away with the overlapping, non-conformist letters — or, as eBay President Devin Wenig puts it, a logo that’s “rooted in our proud history and reflects a dynamic future.” You can find the company’s full explanation of the change at the link below, and look for the logo itself to actually be put into use by eBay in mid-October.

Yay or Nay: Ebay’s New Logo [Chatroom]

Ebay has a new logo. Much like every other company under the sun, it’s an attempt to go with a design that’s flat, streamlined and sleek—in other words, modern. But while all of those ideas are fine in theory, sometimes the finished product doesn’t always end up the way its creators intended. This might be one of those instances. What do you think? Design win or design disaster? [The Verge] More »

LG’s Sera Park talks about the design story behind the Optimus G

LGs Sera Park talks about the design story behind the Optimus G

LG’s Sera Park has been talking about her latest handset, the Optimus G, and how it carries the DNA of its Chocolate and Prada phones from way back when. One of the aims was to build a display that was seamless with the rest of its unibody construction, so that it “floats in your hand,” as you use it. It also banished all front-side decoration, but compensated by adding a crystal reflection method to bling up the back. Of course, we wouldn’t be surprised if the clip was timed to appear as a timely reminder to those sensitive about design that LG certainly can’t be accused of following a trend. The company isn’t letting people embed the video, so if you’d like to watch her wax lyrical about rectangles, you’ll have to head on down to the source link.

Pac-Man Table is Retro Class All the Way

We’ve seen several Pac-Man tables over the years, and all of them are neat in their own ways. This one keeps things classy with a modern look and color matching chairs.

pac man table 1

This arcade inspired table was made by master woodworker Thanasis Mokas who apparently has a case of Pac-Man fever, which is driving him crazy. The textured game scene sits beneath a sheet of glass and even comes with four stools in familiar game colors. I’m not sure why, maybe it’s the colors (or the lack of white eyeballs on the ghosts), but this one reminds me of the Atari 2600 version of the game, but better.

You wouldn’t think that this game would look good in wood, but it looks pretty awesome. I would love to own one of these tables for myself.

Chair Ssstoell Might Just Give You Vertigo

I’ve seen a lot of chairs in my lifetime, and none of them are as dizzying or puzzling as the Chair Ssstoell. Even its name is complicated right from the get-go.

Ssstoell chair

It looks unstable and confusing. And from another angle, it looks like it’s comprised of three chairs that have been stacked one on top of the other, but from another, you can see that it’s actually just one chair.

Here’s a fun fact: ‘stoel’ is actually Dutch for ‘chair.’ Seeing as this one is sort of like three chairs in one, the triple ‘S’ they used for the ‘ssstoel’ part of the name is actually quite fitting.

The Chair Ssstoel was designed by Voortman and Girod. It’s also for sale, too, although it’s crazy expensive at $1,320 (USD – plus $157 for international shipping.) For that price, you could certainly buy three of your own chairs, stack them on top of each other, and put the other $1,000 back in your pocket.

E-Clips video camera: The ultimate action cam on the go

Handheld cameras are often preferred over standard video cameras when capturing videos. This is because they offer a certain amount of ease and mobility due to their smaller and lighter size. Building on this concept, a designer, Christopher Terella has come up with the cool idea of an ‘ultimate action cam.’

The camera is being called ‘E-Clips video camera’ and is termed an action cam simply because its design makes it very easy to carry about, not only in your hand but also when you are on the go. For instance, you can easily hitch up the camera to your bike if you wish to capture a video while biking.  (more…)
